Introduction:
The topic of my paper is basically divided by two parts one is Strategic
Management and the other one is Leadership. From the last decade, we have witnessed a
huge revolution on strategic management research and also writing. Most of the strategic
management academics have adopted the logics and languages from economics. Basically,
strategic management is a group of decisions which have been made by some senior
management persons, which determines the action and long run performance of an
organization.
Now what do we understand about the word - leadership? Leader gives lead to the
team of a corporation to be on the right track or to do the right job to achieve a certain goal.
Leaders make the team confident, encourage them, correct them and show the path how to do
the job and what is their ultimate goal. On the other hand, a management personal only
manages people and things to do the job properly.
In this report, I am going to show, how different management styles can be adopted for
different work situations. Rumelt, Richard P., Dan Schendel, and David J. Teece.(1991)

Besides of these styles, some people also have mix of those styles. So, basically it
depends entirely on the persons, how they communicate and make decisions, supervise and
motivate. There is a range of management styles and all are a blend of three key behaviours.
Key behaviours of management styles:
Task direction: When a manger tells an employee what, when, where and how to do a
task. These may involve teaching and training as well as directives and instructions.
Decision making: How a manager involves an employee in making a decision.
Relationship building: How the manager forms relationships with employees and
creates a work culture for the team. It includes, coaching, motivating, open
communication and respect. Hunger, J. David, and Thomas L. Wheelen.(2003)

So, these are totally two different things. But if a decision maker or senior
management person can play a role as a leader, we can meet the goal very easily. But
definitely it depends on his approach or style to the specific job.
More successful strategies need to be more experimental and creative. For example,
Dell computer system took the strategy to sell their computer directly to the customer. They
are cutting off all the middleman and distributors. Thats the way they thought they can
provide their best computer system to the customers at a cheaper price.

Strategy formulation

Evaluation and control
The following factors that are most important to the corporations future are called
strategic factors: strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats (SWOT). Porter,M.E.(1985)
We can consider two different style of strategic management, which is,
Autocratic management style: Where a manger takes all the responsibility and
decisions to make a project and doesnt discuss with his subordinates. He just asks
them what to do and how to do. As a result, the project completely reflects the
personal opinion and personality of the manager.
Permissive management style: Where manger involves all the employees to the
decision making process and consider the whole work as a team work. As a result, the
project reflects the whole teams perspective.
the other group. Before starting building anything, the whole team debates on how the tower
should be built. But the managers priority is to finalise the concept and he in charge of the
whole planning. He always wants as less risk as possible. The precise planning enables this
group to achieve the success they want and they cant be distracted easily. This is called
permissive management style. So, here we have seen two different scenarios to manage a
project and their impact on their job.
Conclusion:
The impact of strategic management style and leadership is very important on any
particular project. The success of the project really depends on these factors.
