The poll surveyed a random sample of 2,491 Canadians by Smart IVR on July 9th, 2015.
Mainstreet surveyed a mixture of landlines and cell phones. Results were weighted by age,
gender and region. Margin of error: +/- 1.96%, 19/20.

LITTLE APPETITE FOR PROPOSED MONUMENTS

July 13th, 2015. A new Mainstreet/Postmedia poll finds Canadians have little appetite for two
planned monuments. The Mainstreet/Postmedia poll has a margin of error of +/- 1.96%, 19/20.
"It appears Canadians have little appetite for proposed government Monuments. Whether
dedicated to victims of communism, or Canada's war heros, the monuments appear to have little
support among the general public, said Quito Maggi, president of Mainstreet.
"More Canadians are aware of and following the proposed Mother Canada monument, proposed
to be erected near Cape Breton and dedicated to Canadian war dead. Despite the higher
awareness, approval is low and appears to be due to a distaste for the commercialization of
Canada's Parks."
"58% of Canadians disapprove of the memorial to victims of Communism, slated for an Ottawa
location near Parliament Hill, with 40% indicating strong disapproval. While the level of
disapproval may not seem extremely high, on the surface, among those who expressed an
opinion, that amounts to 77% disapproval with over 53% strong disapproval. It's a pretty clear
signal against the monument, he finished."
