I am writing and appealing to you, our Mayor and our City Councilpersons to
reconsider the request of national applicants for the position of San Antonio's
Police Chief, which is presently assigned to Interim Chief of Police Anthony L.
Trevino Jr. I, along with other community leaders are very concerned that while we
have a very well qualified, respected hardworking and dedicated law enforcement
officer who rose in the ranks within the COSA Police Department and presently
serving as interim Chief of Police, have question as to why are you now requesting
national applicants? Interim Police Chief Trevino's work history speaks for itself as
he graduated from the San Antonio Police Academy and as he joined forces on
3 September 1993 within the Patrol Division (west area), for his dedication of
fighting crime and his belief in justice did not waver. I have personally met with
him and we recently attended a meeting with community leader and civil rights
organizations on discussion of issues related for the good and welfare of our
community and COSA. This meeting was informative and especially pleased that
our newly elected District Attorney, Nico LaHood was present. It is of my opinion
that our COSA needs to recognize our local city employees who have the expertise
and well qualified for promotions to be selected internally and NOT externally.
I am a lifetime LULAC member in which I served as National LULAC Treasurer and
National Labor Advisor in Washington D.C. Have said that, I have been informed by
Brother Henry Rodriquez, Executive Director of LULAC Zapatista, Council 4383, that
he introduced a Texas State Resolution at the Texas LULAC Convention in strong
support of Interim Chief of Police Anthony L. Trevino, Jr. This was approved
unanimously. It is now my understanding that this same Resolution w ill be
introduced and passed at the National LULAC Convention in Salt Lake City, Uta h, t o
be held 7 - 11 July 2015, and expected to be attended by 20,000 people .

Ms Sheryl, I do hope and pray that you, the Mayor, and City Councilpersons
reconsider this request and recognize promotions internally with respectful, well
qualified, hardworking individuals whose careers have been dedicated to this great
city of ours- there are jewels in our own city, starting with Interim Chief of Police,
Anthony L. Trevino, Jr.
I support Interim Chief of Police Trevino and urge you and our City Councilpersons
continue to have him serve as our next San Antonio's Chief of Police. We do not
have to go far to hire our own.
I await your response as soon as possible.
