Unit 1: Everyday life


-Separable two-word verbs
We can separate some two word verbs with a direct object. When the direct object is a noun, it can go
between the two part of the verb or after them.
E.g.
Pick the paper up
Pick up the paper.
When the direct object is a pronoun, it must go between the two parts of the verb. It can't go after the
two parts of the verb.
E.g.
Pick it up
Pick up it

-Connectors
but
We sometimes use but to contrast a sentence with a positive meaning and a sentence with negative
meaning.
E.g.
I like cereal. I don't like eggs.
I like cereal but I don't like eggs.

ann ...too
We us and ...too to combine sentences with the same verb or adjective.
E.g.
Jenny likes eggs. Her mom likes eggs.
Jenny likes eggs and her mom does, too.
I am tall. My brother is tall.
I am tall and my brother is too.

-Adverb of frequency (sometimes)


W use adverbs of frequency to talk about how often something happens. Unlike never an always,
sometimes can go at the beginning oof a sentence.
E.g.
Sometimes I clean my room.
Never I clean my room.
Always I clean my room.

Unit 2: Whats the time


-Telling time
We use it as the subject when we tell the time.
E.g.
What'sthe time?
It's 9 oclock.
Its 10:30.

-at
We use at with specific times.
E.g.
The movie begins at 7:45

-want + to
We use the base form of the verb with to after want.
E.g.
What do you want to do?Let's go to the movies.
Do you want to watch TV? No, I don't like TV.

Unit 3: Hows the weather?


-Going to
We use going to+verb to talk about things that we are sure are going to happen in the future.
E.g.
I'm going yo wear sunglasses tomorrow. I'm not going to wear boots.
Its going to be hot. It isnt going to be cold.
Were going to go to the park. We arent going to go to the movies.

-Going to -wh questions


What's going to happen? It's going to rain.
What's he going to do? He's going to go swimming.
Who's going to come? Maria is.
Who are you going to visit? Oscar.
When's the party going to start? At 6:30.

-Going to yes/no questions and short answers


Are you going to take an umbrella? Yes, I am.
Is it going to be sunny tomorrow? No it isn't.
Are they going to wear sunglasses? No, they aren't.

Unit 4: Party Time!


-Partitives with count and non-count nouns
We can use partitives to talk about the amount of count and non-count nouns.
E.g.
Two boxes of cookies
three bottles of milk

-some and any


We can use some to talk about an unknown amount of count or non-count nouns.
There is some milk (non-count)
There are some eggs. (count)
We often use any in negative statements and questions.
E.g.
There isn't any milk. (non-count)
There arent any eggs.(count)
Is there any soda? No, there isnt (non-count)
Are there any hot dogs? Yes, there are. (count)

-How much...? and How many...?


We use How much...? to ask about the exact amount of non-count nouns
We use How many...? to ask about the exact amount of count nouns.
E.g.
How much flour does she need? Two cups. (non-count)
How many apples do they want? Three. (count)

Unit 5: We are different


-Whose...?
We can use Whose...? to ask about possession.
E.g.
Whose eyes are blue? Dianas are.
Whose books are these? They're Petes.

-Weight and height


We can use the verb to be to talk about how tall something is. We can use the verb to weigh to talk
about how heavy something is.
My dog is 60 cm. tall.
It weighs about 25 kilos.

-Possessive pronouns
We use can use possessive pronouns to show who owns something. .
E.g.
The small dog is mine.
The big dog is yours.
The white dog is his.
The brown dog is hers.
The old dog is ours.
The black dog is theirs.

Unit 6:Years ago


-There was/there were
We use there was/there were to introduce places or things that existed in the past .
We use there wasn't/there weren't to
E.g.

-Quantifiers
We can use the verb to be to talk about how tall something is. We can use the verb to weigh to talk
about how heavy something is.
My dog is 60 cm. tall.
It weighs about 25 kilos.
