These five points are the main objectives of this portfolio. This portfolio
includes images and data to show my participation in this activity. To share
the experience while I got on that time, I have reflected the effectiveness of
doing service programme beside that I have wrote on some encouraging
events to make other people to involve on these types of activities. Finally I
have explained some real situation that I saw on this activity.

First entry

A) Description: (what , where, when, with whom ,for whom,


how)
As a student in AiU we are required to participate in community
service programmes in order to enhance their moral values. In each
trimester, a student should need to do six hours of service programme.
For that they can choose any programme or event that beneficial for
the community. Such as feeding old folk, cleaning, spending time with
orphans etc...
For the first entry I share my experience about the community
service that we participated in trimester two on 13th April 2013, it was
a one day programme. The service programme is English camp for
the secondary students those who learn English as third language. The
students are from al-azhar secondary college. They learn Arabic as first
language and Malay second. The service programme held in al-azhar
secondary school in Jitra. We did the service programme with two
groups (group six and eight), in both group there are 40 AiU students
boys and girls. In programme 30 al-azhar students were participated.
Participants are between 14 to 19 years old. Most of them are

memorize the holy Quran. Our groups were guided by Madam Noorul
Nuda and Miss Inthan Zulkafa. By arranging group meetings we plan
thoroughly for this service programme. For the group initially we
appointed one male and female representative, other members were
appointed in to other various categories such as MC, team leaders etc..
Then we came up with an agenda for the programme in the agenda we
recruited the activities with mix up with games in order to reduce the
frustration from the students and to make them excited. These are
some activities that we conducted with them toung twister, continuous
writing, taboo, impromptu speech. These activities were done in group,
for the each group contain five Al-Azhar students and two AiU students
one of them can speak bahasa malayu.

B)

Justification

Before this service programme I have done some other service


programme as well but I choose this programme for my entry because
it was related with educational background and this programme gave
me the opportunity to share my knowledge with young generation and
it brought me pleasure and confident to . Beside that it was a different
type of experience for me as well. Because this activity is my first
teaching activity in formal.

I achieved my objectives by participating in this community service. This service


programme gave me many experiences. For instance; experience in teaching, team
work, and chance to move with local (Malaysian) children. And that situation took
me to my previous school life to recall the valuable memories. This portfolio will be
a proof for my engagement in community service and it reflect my understanding,
thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Doing community service will help the students
in several ways; it help to understand other people feelings, to know humanitarian
values, enhance the life spirit, make the students to be human centric. Etc.., by
dong these activities students self-confidents, leadership qualities, moral values;
hidden skills will also develop without realizing. Meantime I noticed while I was
doing service programme it was the students who participated were most of the
memorize the holy Quran before that I heard the one who memorize the holy Quran
for them the leaning knowledge will be easy, I notice this truth in this service
programme. They were very clever students they easily digest what we taught
them.

REFLECTION
This service programme is the first educational background service programme for our
foundation studies students. When the announcement came to us about this service programme
we are divided in to groups by our respective lecturers. To do this programme we joined two
groups together (group 6&10).

Doing service programme is not an easy event it is a big responsibility and it needs
cooperation of members, long time preparations, tolerance, team work, some sacrifices in
precious time and so on. But its benefits will be vase for students. During the activity I feel
excited because of the opportunity to share my English knowledge with other young students, the
interesting activity that we did in the programme is tongue twister it was funny however it
improves the word pronunciation. Through this activity I learn to plan an activity, I understand
the value of team work and trough this activity I found my personal weakness. Involvement on
this activity brought me the idea of teaching so I wish to develop me on the teaching skill for
future use. In this activity we use the trimester ones learning concept in practical and the style
were we use during the programme are experiencing, sharing, processing, generalizing and
applying.
