The QUANTUM X packer is a

rugged, high-performance gravel-pack
and production packer. Based on the
field-proven and reliable QUANTUM
GP packer design, the QUANTUM X
packer incorporates fewer parts than
the standard QUANTUM packer. The
design improves and optimizes operations in all critical performance parameters including differential pressure
and temperature rating, strength,
load-bearing capability, torque rating,
casing footprint and internal sealing
reliability.
This versatile packer is designed
to significantly improve single-trip
gravel packing and production. It

features a packing element designed

for increased performance and durability and an energy capture system
that maintains the slip-setting force
even if the packing element relaxes.
The elimination of O-rings greatly
reduces the internal pressure leak
paths. The newly designed slip system
protects the casing from excessive
loading and provides positive retraction during retrieval. The slip location
below the packing element provides
maximum protection from debris
fouling. Cast iron construction above
the slips and internal rotationally
locked components facilitate emergency milling operations.
The QUANTUM X packer is the
core component of the high-pressure,
high-temperature (HPHT) gravel-pack
system and is suitable for highpressure, high-volume STIMPAC treatments. Its large-bore system facilitates multiple completions in which
the lower production string must pass
through an upper packer assembly
without damaging the seal bores.
The QUANTUM X packer is suitable
for use in all types of sand control
and production applications and is
compatible with the QUANTUM production gravel-packing tools and
procedures. The packer is designed
to withstand 10,000 ft-lbf [4,536 kg]
and is capable of up to 200,000 lbf
[90,703 kg] of tailpipe load. The
QUANTUM X packer is available in
standard and large-bore configurations allowing seal assembly IDs to
match production-string IDs. The
packer is manufactured from materials that comply with NACE specification MR0175 for sulfide stress
cracking resistant metallic materials.
