Bamidbar 28: 9 and 10- Korban Musaf of Shabbat

( ):
( ):

Why does korban mussaf of Shabbat have only two kevaseem. In contrast,
the other korbanot Mussaf have a minimum of seven kevaseem?
Why is this Mussaf connected to tamid? (the 8 pesukim b4)
Why no language of hakrava or asseyah? (Chizkuni)
Why no korban chattat on Shabbat? (Ramban and Chizkuni,

Why no language of hakrava or asseya?

Chizkuni- since assur bemelacha on Shabbat and as if all melacha done on erev
shabbat no mention of melacha or hakrava medeen kevod Shabbat that you have
finished all of your work as Shabbat has come in
Rabbeinu Bachai- they were not commanded till now to bring korban mussaf on
Shabbat.... (See Rav Hirsh Later)
Why Two Kevasim?
Daat Zekenim, Rabbeinu Bachai- all quote the Medrash- all of Shabbat is
double- lechem mishnah, zachor veshamor, punishment double so too korban
mussaf. The Daat Zekeinim points out the special language in mussaf that we
say keraui which we do not say in other mussafim.....
Mashal- the king told his servants prepare seuda for my son- they prepared for
him 2 types of food after he ate HKBH commanded them to prepare for his
seuda- the servants asked the king what should we prepare for you? What did you
prepare for my son? They replied with the 2 delicacies- so the king responded
that is what I want also no more... so too Hashem gave Am Yisrael lechem
mishneh on Shabbat . Therefore , he commanded them to makreev lechem
mishneh also
The Abarbanel states that it corresponds to the themes Behind ShabbatZecher lemaaseh Breishit and Zecher Leyetziat Mitzrayim- this is the
connection to the temidim- and specifically kevasim- the Abarbanel states that
Hashem commanded daily in the Beit Hamikdash to remind us of the two
chasadeem that gave us our identity- physical and spiritual- nationhood and
bnei choreen- Mattan Torah- morning- (olat tamid- hassuya behar Sinai which
was in the morning) and Yetziat Mitzrayim- Korban Pesach- bein
haarbayim- veshachatu et hapesach bein haarbayim- kevaseem- that we

are subjugated to Hashem...

aseereet haeifa= omer- zecher lemaan
In addition, the Abarbanel explains that the two correspond to two actions of
HKBH. Hashem created the world and also watches over the world with
hashgacha pratit!
Rav Hirsh- states that the 2 korbanot of mussaf should be contrasted to
the one korban tamid! Many times in tanach 2 represents the yechedeem vs 1
represents the nation as a whole! The korban tamid represents the nation's
fidelity to her creator and every new day the nation recommits herself to
Hashem to be moser nefesh to all of the commandments . On Shabbat, we stop
from work and declare that we are dependant on Hashem. The 2 kevasim declare
that not only the nation as a whole is moser nefesh but all yecheedem are moser
nefesh. This is symbolized that by korban tamid having one reviit of wine and
one aseereet eifa while shabbat is double- two kevasim, with two reviot of wine
and two aseereyot, Rav Hirsh concludes that we see that olat shabbat is
not fundamentally different than the tamid- rather it expresses a second
part of the same coin- one of a yachid and one of tzibbur- ( I would add
that shabbat adds the dimension that our avodah as a yacheed must emanate
from klal perspective....) this is the reason that there is no hakrava or
aseeya by Shabbat- because it is hemshech of the korban tamid!
This could also explain the shitah of Ramban that there is no korban chattat on
Shabbat because of this shalom between Am Yisrael and Hashem both on klal and
prat level.
The Sfat Emet explains that Chazal were koveah that reading of temidim and
mussafin during bein hametzareem to wake us up to the Avodat Beit
Hamikdash that we can regain our ability to sing to Hashem again as when we
do not have the beit hamikdash we sing
I would add that based on the above shiur that we renew our commitment to
Hashem both as a Klal and on individual level!
