PARADE
The Aviation Day 2014 Parade will be on Friday, December 5, 2014 at 8:00 AM. The parade will begin in
front of Waltermart, Sucat. Parade entries should be centered on the Aviation Day 2014 theme, Making
History in the 21st Century. Course organizations are eligible to compete with a float entry. PATTS
Faculty Association, staff and alumni are invited to participate in the parade but are not eligible to
partake in the competition. Any course organization will be awarded toward their overall score.
A representative from each organization must be present at the MANDATORY PARADE MEETING on
(Wednesday) November 12, 2014 at 1:00 2:00 PM at the PSC Office.
When constructing units for competition, be prepared for any weather condition that may exist during
preparation and/or parade itself. No sympathy points will be allotted for weather-damaged units.
Vehicles must be inspected to make sure there are no mechanical problems before the parade begins.
PLEASE NOTE: Prior to the arrival of the parade at the PATTS VIP Gate, Parade Officials and Judges will
inspect all entries. Entries not finished on both sides will have judging points deducted from their totals.
Judges decisions are final!
All parade units will be lined-up in a First come, first serve basis with the Parade Officials by 7:00 AM
on December 5, 2014 (Friday).

RULES AND GENERAL INFORMATION FOR THE FLOAT


FLOAT INFORMATION
A float is any fully decorated structure or vehicle that depicts the parade theme. Each float must
be decorated over 90% or more of the unit. Floats are judged on design, including balance, artistic
imagination, and the effectiveness of color combinations. Materials and workmanship are considered, as
well as the presentation of a theme and overall appeal.

RULES
1. Floats must be consistent with the theme Making History in the 21st Century
2. Floats may use 4x4 vehicles, elf truck, multicab or pick-up trucks.
3. Any type of material may be used during construction (remember that a variety of
weather conditions are possible during the parade). All entries must be constructed so
spectators on both sides of the street can view them.
4. Lettering is required, which includes the name of the course organization and the float
title. Lettering must be a minimum of 8 inches high and visible from both sides of the
street. Each organization must supply any adhesives (e.g. masking tape, doubleadhesive tape) to be ready for any damage that may occur.
5. Floats may not exceed 7 meters (22.97 ft) in length.
6. Floats may not exceed ______ in height (measured from the ground, up), minimum size
can be as small as the back of a pick-up truck.
7. All floats shall have a skirt to cover the wheels within the bounds of safety.
8. There is no limit to the number of people allowed on the float and on the marching unit.
The final decision is up to the Parade Officials on the day of the parade. Upon inspection
of the unit, the Parade Coordinator or the Aviation Day 2014 Project Head has the
authority to limit the number of passengers who can safely ride on the float.
9. Floats must participate in the parade on December 5, 2014 (Friday), in order to be
eligible for points and prizes. They must finish the entire parade route.
10. To be eligible for competition, floats must line up for the parade in front of
Waltermart by 7:00 AM on December 5, 2014 (Friday) and MUST FINISH THE ENTIRE
PARADE ROUTE for they will be judged upon their arrival at PATTS VIP Gate.

JUDGING CRITERIA
100 possible points awarded for the following areas:
Overall appearance (30 points)
Does the float possess beauty and neatness?
Does the float look good?
Does the float go with the theme?
Does the float convey its message?
Originality and creativity (25 points)
Is it something out of ordinary?
Is the idea of the float projecting the theme of Aviation Day creatively?
Parade theme (15 points)
How well the entry depicts the parade theme?
Music (10 points)
Workmanship (20 points)
Detail of entry design with effective use of colors/materials
How well is the float put together?
Difficulty of construction?
Will the float last through the parade?
Does it look safe?
Bonus points will be awarded for the following:
+20 bonus points for entries with working/moving parts
+15 bonus points for entries with live musicians
Note:
Deduction Points will be given for the following:
-5 deduction points for late float entry
-5 deduction points for the float with less than 90% decoration

JUDGES
Judges will be selected by the PATTS Student Council and will receive detailed explanation of
parade rules and judging procedures at least two weeks prior to the parade.
