INTRODUCTION:
Irrespective of geographical boundaries the world has turned into global village
because of media and communication. The technology is the bigger aspect that
has promoted it more. Now a days media has a great influence in our life and
that has been increasing day by day. Every person in this world is surrounded by
electronic media. Electronic media means television, radio, computers etc.
Television a multimedia device has several purposes, such as entertainment,
refreshment, education, and information. Several channels are broadcasted and
many programs aired. The development of television has had revolutionary role
in promoting mass awareness. Almost everything on television focuses an
interest in the here and now, exciting and inspiring events. It has also abounded
the capacity of mass-entertainment. But a new face of this technology has no
similarity with the old one. We change the channels instantly, and our finger tips
stop where the soap operas appeal. Not only young girls, but also boys are
enthralled by these programs. Instead of revitalizing our minds, we feel happy
in sharing the tensions of each and every drama. Tears are shed, minds get
perplexed, and hearts are fraught with sorrows because of the worries and
problems presented in soap. The other thing news which are affecting the minds
of the young generation. The news of terrorism is also exploiting the mind of
our youth and makes the new generation innocent minds fluster
Mass Media is dealing with radio, television, film, newspaper and other means
of communications but here I am going to lighten on the electronic media news.
Mass media is a vast field and it cannot be discuss all collectively. The impact
of media news is one of the essential factor that how television news is effecting
us and our life. Cultures vary in range of media and the diversity of media is
enhancing by increase in the development of media technologies which is cable
television, dish network and desktop publishing. Media news puts positive as
well as negative impact on socialization.
Youth is that phase in which easily the mind can be change. And sometimes
news is exploiting it and sometime it moralized the mind and lead towards the
success and solved many of the problems. As we know that everything has a
good or bad impact. So the electronic media news has also good and bad
influence on us.
REVIEW LITERATURE:
I have read some of the books which are related to my topic. The some of the
views of writer are giving here. According to Roshco in his book News
making he has define the news as
News is more easily pursued than defined, a characteristic it share with

such other enthralling abstractions as love and truth.

News is becoming important in life day by day. The news is based on
orientation towards truthfulness. This in itself demands a respect for the truth

MASS MEDIA
The first recorded usages of mass media as a term was in 1923, in Advertising
& Selling. Here, mass media is loosely defined as
Representing the most economical way of getting the story over the new and
wider market in the least time
The etymology of the concept is crucial in understanding mass media as it is
composed of two words:

Media generally defined as the main means of mass communication.
The mass media are diversified media technologies that are intended to
reach a large audience by mass communication. The technology through
which this communication takes place varies.
Broadcast media such as radio,
Recorded music, film and television transmit their information
electronically.
Print media use a physical object such as a:
Newspaper,
Book,
Pamphlet

Comics to distribute their information.

Here we are dealing with radio, television, film and other means. The
communication flow from a sender of message to large number of receiver of
message a great deal of the context of mass media take the form of texts
narrative or stories found in TV program, song, news etc. we also find
narratives in person conversation and may other areas.

II.
Mass can be defined as a large number of human beings collected

closely together or viewed as forming an aggregate in which their
individuality is lost.
Mass media is a momentous force in modern civilization, particularly in

America. Sociologists refer to this as mediated culture where media reflects and
develop the culture. Outdoor media is a form of mass media that
comprises billboards, signs or placards placed inside and outside of commercial
buildings, sports stadiums, shops and buses. Other outdoor media include flying
billboards (signs in tow of airplanes), blimps, and skywriting. Public speaking
and event organizing, Internet and mobile mass communication provide many
mass media services.
Since our topic is focused on Electronic media role on youth in particular and
general public at large. Young children spend more than 30 hours every week in
front of a television set. As they grow up, add listening to music, going to the
movies, using computers and Smartphone, and playing video games--the
amount of time most young people invest in media is more than twice the time
they spend in school. Following questions which needs to be answered comes in
mind:
What is the impact of growing up immersed in this digital world?
What do children learn from media, and what issues does it raise for them?

There is a great conflict going on in every society that the TV news is giving a
good influence or bad influence. In my point of view it is really a big conflict.
At the writer of the view said that Fascination with satellite television and
Internet technology has become an obsession. People throughout the world
watch television and believe what they see and hear--without realizing that
pictures are selected and stories are sometimes distorted. But overall if we
analyze electronic media had revolutionized the world of journalism where
every individual have the right to express his/her view point freely and without
any fear.
Though as we discussed above that the role played by the media is polarizedcan go in any direction, positive or negative. If it is playing a negative role on
the other hand it is educating, informing and entertaining our public specially
youth. Ours is the world of young people which demand the answers of their
inquisitiveness and unexplained dilemmas as media (news) had done a daunting
job of disclosing all that young generation needs to be aware off.
LOCALE:
I proposed my ethnographic research in Quaid-i-Azam University. It is
located in Islamabad, Islamabad capital territory. Covering the approximated
area of 1700 acres below the Margalla hills, the university is internationally
known for its higher learning, technological advancement, and intellectual
interaction with a joint collaboration in various academic disciplines with
various international institutes, including the United Nations.
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY:
Anthropological methodology is different in its perspective and had a wide
range of application. The research tools which I will use in field research are as
followed to have a comprehensive and detailed qualitative data which is
anthropological method and technique to comprehend my academic work in my
ethnographic research.
SAMPLING:
Sampling is a technique which is used to filter out a small group from the big
population, it is called sample group .As I have done my ethnographic research
in Quaid-i-Azam University. In this university approx 8 to 9 thousands students

are studying and from this university I have taken Department of Anthropology.
Roundabout I have taken the views of 10 to 15 students approx. The student
which falls on my youth category. According to my youth definition youth is a
period of transition from the dependence of childhood to adulthoods
independence and awareness of our interdependence as member of a
community. Youth is a more fluid category than others. The age of youth in my
research is about 20 to 30.
DISCUSSION & ANALYSIS

Ours is the world of science and technology and in this very earth our lives
though are becoming easier but also complex at the same time. Journalism is
one of the pillars of state and with the transformation and development of
Electronic media our lives are becoming more conscious and updated.
Electronic media News cast a vast impact on the youth and to general public at
large. I would like to explain the following aspects In relation to Electronic
media Impact particularly on Youth and younger generation:

Entertainment
Awareness:
The level of awareness among the youth of Pakistan is more than the other
countries. As we know electronic media is a tremendous source for awareness.
Pakistan has round about 80 to 100 news channels that is the mine thing that
increases more awareness in our youth. If we compare our youth awareness
level with American youth we will feel the difference because there only 2 to 3
news channels. This is in every field especially in political discussion.
Awareness is very essential and it can easily get by the electronic media news.
Youth should promote the awareness of very thing through this mean because it
is the best way.

Electronic media promotes Healthy Ideas:
Electronic media can be use as healthy activity which includes education
researches, technologies and other things so that young generations can easily
adopt that and can get information from them. Media news channels are
bringing up the programs like Apprenticeships and Dragons Den for the young
generations to come up and bring out some innovative ideas. They have started
a program khabar nak which is playing a very vast and vital activity to
refresh the mind of youth. The ways in which they tell and discuss news is quite
a funny and having a great sense of humor &then provide their analysis about
the news and also tell the influence of that news on the people. Another big
example is Pakistan idol.

When
the news about Pakistan idol is come on the screen it makes youth more
energetic and inspires youth. Electronic media is the one of the best way that
can communicate and share information all over the world. Thats why it is the
basic source for information. Youth in different fields like engineering, medical,
anthropology etc do different types of researches, innovations and I think its
the duty of media that they should promote it all over the world and then make
such types of programs, competitions that can prove our youth one of the best
in the world.
Demoralizing Affect:
Our youth has the potential to meet with the globe challenges in terms of
nuclear, space technology, information technology, worlds environment and the
biggest forth coming challenge of water but our media news is play a pathetic
role by providing the terrorism news, crime and the news sometimes which are
putting the national security into the stake like Ajmal Kasab Village news which
was favorable to our enemies. Electronic media news has a good influence and
also bad influence on the youth. Electronic media no doubt modernizing the
mind of youth and promoting them but at the same time it has demoralizing

affect which ultimately evolve crimes in the soft minds of the youth. The news
of terrorism has affected a lot on the youth that youth has lost their all hopes.
Whenever they travel to other countries they are viewed as terrorist because all
the time International media is broadcasting such type of news.
Yellow news is used by the electronic media news which is somehow
demoralizing. Techniques may include exaggerations of news events, scandalmongering, or sensationalism. By extension, the term yellow journalism is used
today as a pejorative to decry any journalism that treats news in an
unprofessional or unethical fashion.

Blackmailing Journalists and Threat to Journalists:

Whenever anchor appear on the screen in any news related programs they are
considered to be loyal, honest and impartial but our previous experience says
that top ranking journalist for their own benefits makes the negative articles
into the positive which have lost the trust of the youth on national media. And it
has a negative impact on the youth. On the bases of this bad impact youth has
also lost the interest on the electronic media news. But at the same time they are
facing threats and even some of them are killed such as Wali Babar who had
sacrificed their life in order to keep the name and status of journalism at top
levels.

Entertainment:
Electronic media news is source of entertainment also. Media broadcasting has
introduced the new way of casting news. The news is tell in a different manner
that people especially youth can take interest in the news. They have used a
funny manner and also highlight the news in such a manner that which become
attention seeker. We have a clear example of GEO TAIZ. Youth like to watch
this news channel.

Media news is also making such types of news programs which have become a
source of entertainment also. The famous program Hum sub umeed say hain.
Youth like to watch it and feel relaxation. Programs like haseb-e-hal and
khabar-nak they are not only the source of entertainment but also the
interpretation of news in a funny manner with lots of informative segments
involved in it.
RESULTS:
I did my research and gave the questionnaire to the youth. About 40% of my
respondents were in favor that electronic media has a good impact on youth and
60 % were not agreeing that media news has good impact. Youth is that phase in
which the mind of can easily change.
One of my respondents said:
Basically, electronic media news are failed to produce a positive effect on the
youth. So thats why I have left to take interest in the news now
Many of my respondent like to watch news from channel GEO NEWS
because education that is the most important thing. News regarding our country,
government issues and steps taking on the education are always useful.
The results of research has shows us that TV news is not broadcasting the news
with true facts and figures and should not gave such information that is against
the ethics and the prestige of the country. The impact of our country is supposed
to improve by the electronic media news. As our youth is getting away from the
news so its the duty of the news channels that they improve their self so that
our youth start take interest in news.
The major impact of electronic media news on the youth is the personality
buildup. One of my respondents said:
News has a role in building ones personality which often has been ignored

CONCLUSION:
While electronic media are often viewed as the harsh harvester for customary
print publications, they also can breathe new life into fading titles. In my point
of view the impact of the news is very important and it should be improved
gradually. World has been changed into global village and technology is
improving day by day and it is the duty of media news to motivate our youth so
that they can prove their self.
Media news misleads the masses quite often but it is also the duty of the youth
to take such steps that media channels feel the sense of accountability and
responsibility. Electronic media news needs to motivate youth in positive
manner by giving them a positive futuristic approach. This can be done by the
electronic media news portraying and visualizing such news, documentaries,
talk shows that can also help us in building character & personality.
