Set Induction:
- With all students toes still on the green line
- Ask: Who likes to run? Who likes to jump
rope?
- Well today we are going to combine the two
together and create a relay race I like to call
Jumparoo through the Hoop
- Explain Learnable Piece
Learnable Piece:
- Today you will be learning three safe ways to
use a jump rope.
- That includes: holding one of the ropes
handles in each hand, have the rope start
behind your feet before you jump, and jump
rope at a steady pace.
- Keep these three ideas in mind because I
want you to apply them during the activity and
I want to review what we have learned at the
end of this activity.
- Who can tell me the three ways to safely use
a jump rope? Excellent!

Jumparoo through the Hoop is a relay race, as

I explained earlier.
- There will be four teams, in four single file
lines behind the four cones that I have placed
on the ground.
- One person at a time from each team will run
to the hula hoop, jump through or into the
hoop, jump to the side of the hoop, grab the
jump rope, and then, keeping the three safety
features in mind, do 5 jumps with the jump
rope, set it down, run back and tap the next
person in line gently on their hand.
- After each person has gone, the team will sit
down. The first team to sit down wins.
- Check for Understanding:
o
How many people run to the hoop at a
time?
o
How many jumps do you have to do
with the jump rope?
o
What do you do when your whole team
is done?
Transition:
- Indicate which cone is number 1, 2, 3, 4
- Count students off by 4
- When I say go, stand with your team in a
single file line behind the cone with your
designated number, quietly. Ready, Go.
- When you have determined the order in
which each team member is going, and (who
is going twice if need be) give me a thumbs up
to show me you are ready to play!
- When I say jumparoo, go!
Activity:

Transition: Students circle up in the middle of the

gym after the game is over.

Notes:

Possible Modifications:
- Have students do 10 jumps instead of 5
- Move the hula-hoop farther away from the
cone so they have to run farther.
- Make 2 teams instead of 4 so the game lasts
longer.
Lesson Review:
- Questions:
o
What is one way you safely jump roped
during that activity?
o
What are all three ways to safely jump
rope?
o
Give yourselves a round of applause!
