NAME OF THE CANDIDATE THAT YOU ARE MENTORING?
ITC mentors are expected to act as critical friends to the ITC teacher they are mentoring. This
critical friendship can take the form of encouragement, advice, or coaching. The mentor is expected
to help the teacher with issues like time management or with the making of decisions about the
planning and sequencing of the Standards, among others. The ITC does not stipulate that the
teacher and mentor meet according to a particular timetable, or that the mentor has to be at the
same school (though this is preferable) but does expect that the mentor will be available to the
teacher as needed. The mentoring relationship is not defined as a supervisory relationship; it is
conceived as a friendly and supportive one. For ITC teachers who intend to apply for the IB
Certificate in Teaching and Learning upon completion of the ITC, the mentor also helps to ensure
engagement with the IB Essential Questions as relevant to the ITC Syllabus. At the end of the
teacher's ITC year, the mentor will make a short video in which he/she speaks about the teacher's
ITC experience. This video is submitted with the teacher's final Standard.
