Class Development
ACTIVITY 1: ORGANISATIONAL MOMENT (2`)
PROCEDURE:
T. enters the room, greets the Ss., asks if there are any absentees and talks to the Ss. asking
them how they are doing. Ss. greet and answer the questions.
AIM: - to cheer up the Ss. and to prepare Ss. for the lesson.
TECHNIQUES : discussion.

ACTIVITY 2: WARM-UP (6`)
PROCEDURE:
T. gives Ss. handouts with scrambled sentences focusing on non-defining relative clauses
(hand-out 1). Ss are divided into 5 groups and as they resolve each sentence, they write them
on the blackboard.
AIM: - to make the lead-into the subject and capture their interest in the topic, but also to
prepare Ss. for the lesson.
- to make Ss. express their opinions in order to make connections with previous
experience.

ACTIVITY 3: CHECKING PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE (8`)
PROCEDURE:
T. Asks the students what type of clauses did they find in their handouts. They will answer
that there were non-defining relative clauses. T. tells the students that today they will review
the two types of relative clauses and the Past Perfect Continuous.
T. asks the Ss. what are defining and non-defining relative clauses? and after he receives the
answers he puts on the video projector a material with more detailed information about the
two types of clauses and explains it to the students.
AIM: - to help the students review their knowledge about relative clauses.
- to assure a proper transition between the moments of the lesson and thus a better
comprehension of the topic.
- to inform Ss about the topic they are going to learn.

T. gives the Ss. handouts involving the discussed structures: defining and non-defining
relative clauses. Ss. must complete the hand-outs (hand-out 2). In the time students complete
the task, T. observes them and helps them if needed. Then T goes through the answers with
the whole class.
AIM: - to practice the learned structures.

ACTIVITY 5. READING AND PRACTICING PAST PERFECT CONTINUOUS (10)
PROCEDURE:
T. asks a S. to read a text about the Chinese New Year and ask the class to recognize the
tense of the verbs underlined. Ss. recognize them as being past perfect continuous forms.
Then T. shows Ss. a slide containing information regarding the tense mentioned.
T. request students to answer to questions involving actions in past perfect continuous tense.
AIM: - to review past perfect continuous;
- to improve vocabulary and reading skills;

ACTIVITY 5. PRACTICING PAST PERFECT CONTINUOUS (10)
PROCEDURE:
T. gives Ss. hand-outs involving the tense mentioned. As they work, T. watches them. After
they finish T. asks some Ss. to go read out their answers, the rest of the class checks the
answers.
AIM: - to practice learned structures ;
-to verify and assure the comprehension of the text.
- use and consolidate the Ss` vocabulary.
Write a composition about your neighbours using defining and non-defining relative
clauses.
Textbook: p. 52 exercise 3.
