Its official! On Saturday,

June 27th, 163 members
were in attendance and
overwhelmingly approved
the Board to proceed with
the construction of a totally new pool. There were
no amendments or
changes made to the design or the terms of the
assessment. It was refreshing to experience the
level of support for the
pool project on Saturday.
It shows our willingness
and commitment to invest
in the future of our Club!
There are still some details to be worked out
with the pool contractor
but the plan is to start
construction immediately

many volunteers that
stayed around to help out
with various tasks. The
Rear Commodore will
have more details about
the weather on Saturday
and its impact on our
Club.
AVISORY! DUE TO
THE HEAVY RAIN
AND RUN-OFF, THE
RIVER IS SENDING A
HIGH AMOUNT OF

RIVER. BE EXTRA
VIGILANT BOATING
FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS!
Summer is in full swing
around the Club and with
that comes lots of kids
(young and old!). Please
slow down and be on high
alert so we all can enjoy
another accident free season.

Saturday was a busy

weather day to say the
least! The Club has not
seen water this close to

90s! We were fortunate
that it stopped short of

The Rear Perspective, Dave ObergefelL

Two monumental events
occurred this past weekend at our club, both of
which remind me why we
truly are the greatest club
on the Great Lakes. First,
membership came out
with strong support for a
new pool which will serve
members for many years
to come. Secondly, the
cleanup and repair efforts following the extreme wind, rain and
flood. Immediately following the historic pool
vote, the wind began to
howl, the rain came, and
the river kept rising. It
peaked near 7:00 PM
about 25 above the already high normal" lev-

els. During the storm

many members were involved in containing losses by retying
boats, extending risers,
saving dock boxes and
flower boxes and just securing the
grounds. Fortunately no
one was hurt and damage
was minimal. We lost
three trees, one of which
took out the power to the
pool, but incurred no
building damage. The
cleanup effort the next
day showed why are our
club is so great with numerous volunteers pitching in to rewire the pool,
clean up the grounds and
return the club back to a
normal state. My appreciation goes out to each of
you volunteers. A good
relationship with our tree
contractor resulted in being #1 on his list. In less
than 24 hours the trees
were almost gone. There
is still considerable work
to be done. See Eric,
Chuck, or me for specific
needs. Pictures recording
the flood and cleanup will
be shown on the screen in
the bar for your viewing
enjoyment. Given the
second high water event
of the year, we will be updating our high water
contingency plans for the
club.
In other matters, internet
around the club has undergone a major upgrade

and I welcome your comments about the service. The equipment on

our grounds is now good
but we do not have great
bandwidth from
TWC. We will continue
to evaluate options, if the
service does not meet our
needs, including doubling
our incoming bandwidth
which comes with a
cost. Corbin and Erica
Carpenter have agreed to
oversee the kids room
and provide recommendations for improvement. They would welcome your input and assistance. It was decided
to put a $10 fee on the
pump out and tips are
welcome beyond this
amount. Call Eric for a
pump out but please remember he has plenty of
other duties so please give
him some notice. Just as
a reminder, if you buy a
larger boat that will not
fit your dock, you may
need to be relocated or
even be placed on the
waiting list. Please see
dock chairman PC Denny
Bergman before you buy
for options. Finally, my
thanks to the pool committee and staff who
keeping things running
smoothly. I am proud of
the facilities we offer due
entirely to the dedication
of membership and staff.
Enjoy your club.

Fleet Captain of Sail

Greetings to all PCYC Members. The Sail Fleet is now in
full press! Starting early
with our Race Team Seminars and practices has paid
big dividends!
The Race Team
traveled to the Berlin Regatta on June 13 where we
put 3 420 teams, 2 Laser and
1 Thistle. All of our teams
performed well with the
Thistle Team of JJ Miller,
Will Taylor and Ben
Sprenger sailing to an overwhelming 1st Place. Following that we traveled to
Edgewater
Yacht
Club
where we again put our full

team on the water. Next was

North Cape Yacht Club on
Saturday where our Thistle
Team again took a solid 1st
Place with Michael Leone
taking 8th place in a highly
competitive Laser Fleet.
Great job by all our Junior
Sailors!
This month we will
be attending a sailing clinic
and Junior Olympics at
Mentor Harbor Yacht Club
with our Thistle Team Traveling to Hoover Sailing Club
for the Area E Triple
Handed Junior Championship for the Sears Cup. This
year we will hold the South
Coast Junior Regatta
with Vermillion Boating Club. This event
takes place on Friday
July 17 just before Jr.
Bay Week held July
19-24. This is the

most highly attended Jr.

Regatta leading up to Jr.
Bay Week. Our members
lend a lot of support to this
event and we thank them as
always. Dave Niswander will
be our Principal Race Officer for this event.
The Learn to Sail
Program is going well with
our Opti Girls! They are progressing well and should join
us on the race course soon.
The second session of Learn
to Sail starts June 29 so get
your kids registered soon.
The Auxiliary has held several
races
with
Park
McCritchie a solid 1st, Cliff
Ruckstuhl 2nd and Mark
Sprenger 3rd.
Sr. Bay Week comes
up in Early August with Dr.
David George handling the
Port Clinton Yacht Club
Feeder Race. If you havent
guessed by now we are having a busy sailing season.
Thanks for all your support!
Enjoy the Good Weather
and Sail On!
Jim Miller, FCoS

Fleet Captain of Power

As I am writing this we
have just come off a
great weekend at Kelley's Island. There were
a total of ten boats that
made the trip to Kelley's. The weather finally cooperated as all
three days turned out
pretty well. On Saturday the group was welcomed to The Bickley's

for a "Bloody Mary"

Party. We all really
appreciated the hospitality.
The next "Cruise-Out"
will be to Leamington
the weekend of July
17th-19th. Looks like
there are quite a few
boats signed up. This
should be a great week-

end as Leamington has

a wonderful marina and
wineries close by. More
information will be provided to those that
have signed up. Please
give me a call with any
questions.
Thank you,
R.J. Basil
