YOGAKUNDALINIUPANISHAD

Introduction
TheYogaKundaliniUpanishadistheeightysixthamongthe108Upanishads.ItformspartoftheKrishna
Yajurveda.ItdealswithanexpositionofHathaandLambikaYogas.Itconcludeswithanaccountofthenon
qualifiedBrahman.TheNondualBrahmanisthequestofallseekers.
ThoughgroupedamongtheminorUpanishads,theYogaKundaliniUpanishadisaveryimportantworkon
KundaliniYoga.ItbeginswithananalysisofthenatureofChitta.ItmaintainsthatSamskarasandVasanas
ontheonehand,andPrana,ontheother,constitutethecausesfortheexistenceofChitta.IfVasanasare
controlled,Pranaisautomaticallycontrolled.IfPranaiscontrolled,theVasanasareautomaticallycontrolled.
TheYogaKundaliniUpanishadpresentsmethodsforthecontrolofPrana.TheYogicstudentdoesnotdeal
withVasanas.HeconcernshimselfwiththetechniquesofcontrollingthePrana.
ThethreemethodsgivenintheYogaKundaliniUpanishadforthecontrolofPranaare:Mitahara,Asanaand
ShaktiChalana.Thesethreemethodsarefullyexplainedinthefirstchapter.Light,sweetandnutritiousfood
formsthedisciplineofMitahara.ThePadmasanaandtheVajrasanaaretwoimportantAsanasusedbythe
Yogicstudent.ShaktiChalanaisarousingtheKundaliniandsendingittothecrownofthehead.
Kundalinicanbearousedbyatwofoldpractice.SaraswatiChalanaandtherestraintofPranaarethetwo
practices.TherousingoftheSaraswatiNadiisSaraswatiChalana.
Theprocess,asdescribedintheYogaKundaliniUpanishad,forarousingKundaliniissimple.Whenaperson
exhales,thePranagoesout16digits.Ininhalationitgoesinonly12digits,thuslosing4.TheKundaliniis
arousedifonecaninhalePranafor16digits.ThisisdonebysittinginPadmasanaandwhenthePranais
flowingthroughtheleftnostril,andlengtheninginwards4digitsmore.
BymeansofthislengthenedbreaththeYogicstudentshouldmanipulatetheSaraswatiNadiandstirupthe
KundaliniShaktiwithallhisstrength,fromrighttoleft,repeatedly.Thisprocessmayextendtothree

quartersofanhour.AllthishasbeenbrieflyandyetcomprehensivelydescribedintheYogaKundalini
Upanishad.
ThemostimportantresultofshakingtheSaraswatiNadiisthatitcurestheseveraldiseasesarisingwithin
thebelly,andcleansesandpurifiesthesystem.AfterthepracticeoftheSahitaKumbhakatheYogicstudent
isinitiatedintotheKevalaKumbhaka.ThesetwotypesofKumbhakabringaboutthecompleterestraintof
thePrana.
SuryabhedaKumbhaka,UjjayiKumbhaka,SitaliandBhastrikaarethefourdivisionsoftheSahitaKumbhaka.
SuryabhedaKumbhakadestroystheintestinalwormsandthefourkindsofevilscausedbyVayu.Ujjayi
purifiesthebody,removesdiseasesandincreasesthegastricfire.Italsoremovestheheatcausedinthe
headandthephlegminthethroat.Sitalicoolsthebody.Itdestroysgulma,dyspepsia,pliha,consumption,
bile,fever,thirstandpoison.TheseformsofSahitaKumbhakapurifyandpreparetheentirephysiological
organismforthearousaloftheKundaliniSaktiandfortheexperienceofthenondualBrahman.
Apartfrombringinganumberofwholesomephysiologicalchanges,BhastrikaKumbhakapiercesthethree
knotsortheGranthis.TheYogaKundaliniUpanishadthenproceedstoprescribethepracticeofthethree
Bandhas,fortheYogicstudent.TheprocessbywhichthedownwardtendencyoftheApana(breath)isforced
upbythespinctermusclesoftheanus,iscalledtheMulabandha.BythisBandhatheApanaisraisedup.It
reachesthesphereofAgniorfire.ThentheflameoftheAgnigrowslong,beingblownaboutbyVayu.Ina
heatedstate,AgniandApanacomminglewiththePrana.ThisAgniisveryfierce.
ThroughthisfieryAgni,therearisesinthebodythefirethatawakensandarousestheKundalini,throughits
radiantheat.ThearousedKundalinimakesahissingnoise,becomeserectandenterstheholeof
Brahmanadi.TheYoginspractisethisMulabandhadaily.
InthisaimofarousingtheSarasvatiNadiandtheKundaliniShakti,theothertwoBandhas,viz.,Uddiyana
BandhaandtheJalandharaBandha,alsoplaythemostsignificantpart.
AftergivingdetailedknowledgeofthetechniquesoftheBandhas,theYogaKundaliniUpanishadexplainsthe
numberofobstaclestheYogicstudentsencounter.Italsogivesthemethodsofovercomingtheseobstacles.
Thecausesofthediseasesinthebodyareseven.1.Sleepingduringthedaytime.2.Latevigilsovernight.3.
Excessofsexualintercourse.4.Movingamidstcrowds.5.Theeffectofunwholesomefood.6.Checkingof
thedischargeofurineandfaeces.7.LaboriousmentaloperationswiththePrana.
ThemistakethattheYogicstudentcommitsisthatwhendiseasesattackhim,heerroneouslyattributesthe
diseasestohispracticeofYoga.ThisisthefirstobstacleinYoga.
TheYogicstudentbeginstodoubtastotheefficacyoftheYogaSadhana.Thisisthesecondobstacle.
Carelessnessorastateofconfusionisthethirdobstacle.Indifferenceorlazinessisthefourthobstacle.
Sleepisthefifthobstacleandthesixthistheattachmenttosenseobjects.Theseventhobstacleiserroneous
perceptionordelusion.Theeighthisconcernwithworldlyaffairs.Theninthiswantoffaith.Thetenth

obstacletoYogapracticeiswantofthenecessaryaptitudeforgraspingtheYogatruths.
Earnestspiritualaspirantsshouldavoidalltheseobstaclesbymeansofacloseinvestigationandgreat
deliberation.Furtheron,theUpanishadsdescribetheprocessandthemannerbywhichtheKundaliniis
rousedandtakentotheSahasrarabypiercingthroughtheGranthis.
WhentheawakenedKundalinimovesupwards,theshowerofnectarflowscopiously.TheYogienjoysthis
whichkeepshimawayfromallsensualpleasures.TheYogitakeshisstandupontheInnerReality,the
Atman.Heenjoysthehigheststateofspiritualexperience.Heattainspeaceandisdevotedonlytothe
Atman.
BythewholeprocessoftheKundaliniYogaSadhana,thebodyoftheYogiattainsverysubtlestateofthe
spiritualConsciousness.TheYogiwhohasattainedtoSamadhiexperienceseverythingasConsciousness.The
Yogirealisestheonenessofthemacrocosmandthemicrocosm.Because,theKundaliniShaktihasreached
theSahasraraKamalaorthethousandpetalledlotusandhasbecomeunitedwithSiva,theYogienjoysthe
highestAvastha.Thisisthefinalbeatitude.
TheChakrasarecentresofShaktiasvitalforce.ThesearethecentresofPranaShaktimanifestedby
Pranavayuinthelivingbody.
ThoseaspirantswhoaspiretoarousetheKundaliniShaktitoenjoytheBlissofUnionofSivaandShakti,
throughawakenedKundalini,andtogaintheaccompanyingPowersorSiddhis,shouldpractiseKundalini
Yoga.Tothem,thisYogaKundaliniUpanishadisofgreatimportance.Itequipsthemwithacomprehensive
knowledgeofthemethodsandprocessesoftheKundaliniYogainwhichtheKhechariMudrastands
prominent.
TheKundaliniYogiseekstoobtainbothBhuktiandMukti.Heattainsliberationinandthroughtheworld.
JnanaYogaisthepathofasceticismandliberation.KundaliniYogaisthepathofenjoymentandliberation.
TheHathaYogiseeksabodywhichshallbeasstrongassteel,healthy,freefromsufferingandtherefore,
longlived.Masterofthebody,theYogiistheMasteroflifeanddeath.Hisshiningformenjoysthevitalityof
youth.Helivesaslongashehasthewilltoliveandenjoysintheworldofforms.Hisdeathisthedeathat
will(IchhaMrityu).TheYogishouldseektheguidanceofanexpertandskilledGuru.
TheSerpentPoweristhepowerwhichisthestaticsupportorAdharaofthewholebodyandallitsmoving
Pranicforces.Thepolarityasitexistsin,andas,thebodyisdestroyedbyYogawhichdisturbsthe
equilibriumofbodilyconsciousness,whichconsciousnessistheresultofthemaintenanceofthesetwopoles.
InthehumanbodythepotentialpoleofEnergywhichistheSupremePowerisstirredtoaction.TheShaktiis
movedupwardtounitewiththeSiva,thequiescentConsciousnessintheSahasrara.
ByPranayamaandotherYogicprocessesthestaticShaktiisaffectedandbecomesdynamic.When
completelydynamic,whenKundaliniuniteswithSivaintheSahasrara,thepolarisationofthebodygives

way.ThetwopolesareunitedinoneandthereisthestateofconsciousnesscalledSamadhi.The
polarisationtakesplaceintheConsciousness.Thebodyactuallycontinuestoexistasanobjectof
observationtoothers.
WhentheKundaliniascends,thebodyoftheYogiismaintainedbythenectarwhichflow,fromtheunionof
SivaandShaktiinSahasrara.GlorytoMotherKundaliniwho,throughHerInfiniteGraceandPower,kindly
leadstheSadhakafromChakratoChakraandillumineshimandmakeshimrealisehisidentitywiththe
SupremeBrahman!TheYogaKundaliniUpanishadattachesgreatimportancetothesearchforandfindingof
rightGuru.ItinsistsuponreveringtheilluminedGuru,asGod.GuruisonewhohasfullSelfillumination.He
removestheveilofignoranceinthedeludedindividuals.
ThenumberofrealisedGurusmaybelessinthisKaliYugawhencomparedwiththeSatyaYuga,butthey
arealwayspresenttohelptheaspirants.TheyarealwayssearchingfortheproperAdhikarins.
TheYogaKundaliniUpanishadgivesalistoftheobstaclestoYogapractice.Sometaketothepracticeof
Yoga,andlateron,whentheycomeacrosssomeobstaclesintheway,theydonotknowhowtoproceed
further.Theydonotknowhowtoobviatethem.Manyaretheobstacles,dangers,snaresandpitfallsonthe
spiritualpath.Sadhakasmaycommitmanymistakesonthepath.AGuruwhohasalreadytroddenthepath
andreachedthegoal,isverynecessarytoguidethem.
OnemoreimportantthingwhichyouwouldfindinmanyplacesintheYogaKundaliniUpanishadisthe
SushumnaNadi.YoumusthaveacompleteknowledgeofthisNadi.
Now,awordonKundalini,thearousalofwhichistheimmediateaimoftheKundaliniYoga.Kundalini,the
serpentpowerormysticfireistheprimordialenergyorShaktithatliesdormantorsleepinginthe
MuladharaChakra,thecentreofthebody.Itiscalledtheserpentineorannularpoweronaccountof
serpentineform.Itisanelectricfieryoccultpower,thegreatpristineforcewhichunderliesallorganicand
inorganicmatter.
ChittaAndTheControlOfPrana
1.ChittaistheSubconsciousmind.Itisthemindstuff.Itisthestorehouseofmemory.Samskarasor
impressionsofactionsareimbeddedhere.ItisoneofthefourpartsofAntahkaranaorinnerinstruments,
viz.,mind,intellect,ChittaandAhankaraorego.
2.Mindisformedoutofwind.So,itisfleetinglikethewind.Intellectisformedoutoffire.Chittaisformed
outofwater.Egoisformedoutofearth.
3.Chittahastwocausesforitsexistence,viz.,VasanasorsubtledesiresandthevibrationofPrana.
4.Ifoneofthemiscontrolled,theresultis,bothofthemarecontrolled.
Mitahara,AsanaAndShaktiChalana

5.Ofthesetwo,viz.,PranaandVasanas,thestudentofYogashouldcontrolPranabymoderatefood
(Mitahara),byAsanasorYogicposturesandthirdlybyShaktiChalana.
6.OGautama!Ishallexplainthenatureofthesethreedisciplines.Listenwithraptattention.
7.TheYogishouldtakesweetandnutritiousfood.Heshouldfillhalfthestomachwithfood.Heshoulddrink
water,onequarterofthestomach.Heshouldleavethefourthquarterofthestomachunfilledinorderto
propitiateLordSiva,thepatronoftheYogins.Thisismoderationindiet.
ThePadmaAndVajraAsanas
8.Placingoftherightfootontheleftthighandtheleftfootontherightthigh,isPadmasana.Thispostureis
thedestroyerofallsins.
9.PlacingoneheelbelowtheMuladharaandtheotheroveritandsittingwiththetrunk,neckandheadin
onestraightlineistheadamantinepostureortheVajrasana.MulakandaistherootoftheKanda,thegenital
organ.
TheRousingOfTheKundalini
10.AwiseYogishouldtaketheKundalinifromtheMuladharatotheSahasraraorthethousandpetalled
Lotusinthecrownofthehead.ThisprocessiscalledShaktiChalana.
11.TheKundalinishouldpassthroughtheSvadhishthanaChakra,theManipuraChakrainthenavel,the
AnahataChakraintheheart,theVishuddhaChakrainthethroat,andtheAjnaChakrabetweentheeyebrows
ortheTrikuti.
12.TwothingsarenecessaryforthepracticeofShaktiChalana.OneistheSarasvatiChalanaandtheother
istherestraintofPranaorthebreath.
TheSarasvatiChalana
13.SarasvatiChalanaistherousingoftheSarasvatiNadi.SarasvatiNadiissituatedonthewestofthe
navelamongthefourteenNadis.SarasvatiiscalledArundhati.Literally,itmeansthatwhichhelpsthe
performanceofgoodactions.
14.ThroughthispracticeofSarasvatiChalanaandtherestraintofthePrana,theKundaliniwhichisspiral
becomesstraightened.
15.TheKundaliniisrousedonlybyrousingtheSarasvati.
16.WhenPranaorthebreathispassingthroughonesIdaortheleftnostril,oneshouldsitfirmlyin
Padmasanaandlengtheninwards4digitstheAkasaof12digits.InexhalationPranagoesout16digitsand

ininhalationitgoesinonly12digits,thuslosing4.Butifinhaledfor16digitsthentheKundaliniisaroused.
17.ThewiseYogishouldbringSarasvatiNadibymeansofthislengthenedbreathandholdingfirmly
togetherboththeribsnearthenavelbymeansoftheforefingerandthumbsofbothhandsonehandoneach
side,shouldstirupKundaliniwithallhisstrength,fromrighttoleft,againandagain.Thisstirringmay
extendoveraperiodof48minutes.
18.ThenheshoulddrawupalittlewhenKundalinifindsitsentryintoSushumna.Thisisthemeansbywhich
theKundalinientersthemouthofSushumna.
19.AlongwiththeKundalini,PranaalsoentersofitselftheSushumna.
20.TheYogicstudentshouldalsoexpandnavelbycompressingtheneck.Afterthis,byshakingSarasvati,
thePranaissentabovetothechest.Bythecontractionoftheneck,Pranagoesabovefromthechest.
21.Sarasvatihassoundinherwomb.Sheshouldbethrownintovibrationorshakendaily.
22.MerelybyshakingSarasvationeiscuredofdropsyorJalodara,Gulma(adiseaseofthestomach),Pliha
(adiseaseofthespleen)andallotherdiseasesrisingwithinthebelly.
VarietiesOfPranayama
23.Briefly,IwillnowdescribetoyouPranayama.PranaistheVayuthatmovesinthebody.Therestraintof
PranawithinisknownasKumbhaka.
24.Kumbhakaisoftwokinds,namely,SahitaandKevala.
25.TillhegetsKevala,theYogicstudentshouldpractiseSahita.
26.TherearefourdivisionsorBhedas.Thesedivisionsare:Surya,Ujjayi,SitaliandBhastrika.Sahita
KumbhakaistheKumbhakaassociatedwiththesefour.
SuryabhedaKumbhaka
27.Selectaplacewhichispure,beautifulandfreefrompebbles,thorns,etc.Itshouldbeofthelengthofa
bowfreefromcold,fireandwater.Tothisplace,takeapureandpleasantseatwhichisneithertoohighnor
toolow.Uponit,sitinPadmasana.Now,shakeorthrowintovibrationSarasvati.Slowlyinhalethebreath
fromoutside,throughtherightnostril,aslongasthisiscomfortable,andexhaleitthroughtheleftnostril.
Exhaleafterpurifyingtheskullbyforcingthebreathup.Thisdestroysthefourkindsofevilscausedby
Vayu.Itdestroysalsotheintestinalworms.Thisshouldberepeatedoften.ItiscalledSuryabheda.
UjjayiKumbhaka

28.Closethemouth.Drawupslowlythebreaththroughboththenostrils.Retainitinthespacebetweenthe
heartandtheneck.Thenexhalethroughtheleftnostril.
29.Thisremovesboththeheatcausedintheheadandthephlegminthethroat.Itremovesalldiseases.It
purifiesthebodyandincreasesthegastricfire.ItremovesalltheevilsarisingintheNadis,Jalodaraor
dropsy,thatiswaterinthebelly,andDhatus.ThenameforthisKumbhakaisUjjayi.Itcanbepractised
evenwhenwalkingorstanding.
SitaliKumbhaka
30.DrawupthebreaththroughthetonguewiththehissingsoundSa.Retainitasbefore.Thenslowlyexhale
throughboththenostrils.ThisiscalledSitaliKumbhaka.
31.SitaliKumbhakacoolsthebody.Itdestroysgulmaorthechronicdyspepsia,Pliha(adiseaseofthe
spleen),consumption,bile,fever,thirstandpoison.
32.SitinPadmasanawithbellyandneckerect.Closethemouthandexhalethroughthenostrils.Theninhale
alittleuptothenecksothatthebreathwillfillthespace,withnoise,betweentheneckandskull.Then
exhaleinthesamewayandinhaleoftenandoften.Evenasthebellowsofasmitharemovedstuffedwithin
withairandthenletout,soyoushouldmovetheairwithinthebody.Whenyougettired,inhalethroughthe
rightnostril.IfthebellyisfullofVayu,presswellthenostrilswithallyourfingersexcepttheforefinger.
PerformKumbhakaandexhalethroughtheleftnostril.
33.Thisremovestheinflammationofthethroat.Itincreasesthedigestivegastricfirewithin.Itenablesone
toknowtheKundalini.Itproducespurity,removessins,givespleasureandhappinessanddestroysphlegm
whichistheboltorobstacletothedooratthemouthofBrahmanadiortheSushumna.
34.ItpiercesalsothethreeGranthisorknotsdifferentiatedthroughthethreemodesofNatureorGunas.
ThethreeGranthisorknotsareVishnuGranthi,BrahmaGranthiandRudraGranthi.ThisKumbhakaiscalled
Bhastrika.ThisshouldbeespeciallypractisedbytheHathaYogicstudents.
TheThreeBandhas
35.TheYogicstudentshouldnowpractisethethreeBandhas.ThethreeBandhasare:theMulaBandha,the
UddiyanaBandhaandtheJalandharaBandha.
36.MulaBandha:Apana(breath)whichhasadownwardtendencyisforcedupbythesphinctermusclesof
theanus.MulaBandhaisthenameofthisprocess.
37.WhenApanaisraisedupandreachesthesphereofAgni(fire)thentheflameofAgnigrowslong,being
blownaboutbyVayu.
38.Then,inaheatedstate,AgniandApanacomminglewiththePrana.ThisAgniisveryfiery.Throughthis

therearisesinthebodythefirethatrousesthesleepingKundalinithroughitsheat.
39.ThenthisKundalinimakesahissingnoise.Itbecomeserectlikeaserpentbeatenwithastickandenters
theholeofBrahmanadiortheSushumna.Therefore,theYoginsshouldpractisedailyMulabandhaoften.
40.TheUddiyanaBandha:AttheendoftheKumbhakaandatthebeginningofexpiration,UddiyanaBandha
shouldbeperformed.BecausePranaUddiyate,orthePranagoesuptheSushumnainthisBandha,the
YoginscallitUddiyana.
41.SitintheVajrasana.Holdfirmlythetwotoesbythetwohands.ThenpressattheKandaandatthe
placesnearthetwoankles.ThengraduallyupbeartheTanaorthethreadortheNadiwhichisonthe
westernsidefirsttoUdaraortheupperpartoftheabdomenabovethenavel,thentotheheartandthento
theneck.WhenthePranareachestheSandhiorthejunctionofthenavel,slowlyitremovestheimpurities
anddiseasesinthenavel.Forthisreason,thisshouldbepractisedfrequently.
42.TheJalandharaBandha:ThisshouldbepractisedattheendofPuraka(afterinhalation).Thisisofthe
formofcontractionoftheneckandisanimpedimenttothepassageofVayu(upwards).
43.ThePranagoesthroughBrahmanadionthewesternTanainthemiddle,whentheneckiscontractedat
oncebybendingdownwardssothatthechinmaytouchthebreast.Assumingthepostureasmentioned
before,theYogishouldstirupSarasvatiandcontrolPrana.
HowManyTimesKumbhakaShouldBePractised
44.Onthefirstday,Kumbhakashouldbepractisedfourtimes.
45.Itshouldbedonetentimes,onthesecondday,andthenfivetimesseparately.
46.Onthethirdday,twentytimeswillbeenough.AfterwardsKumbhakashouldbepractisedwiththethree
Bandhasandwithanincreaseoffivetimeseachday.
TheObstaclesToThePracticeOfYogaAndHowToOvercomeThem
47.Sevenarethecausesofthediseasesinthebody.Sleepingduringthedaytimeisthefirst,latevigils
overnightisthesecond,excessofsexualintercoursethethird,movingamidstcrowdsthefourth.Thefifth
causeistheeffectofunwholesomefood.Thesixthisthecheckingofthedischargeofurineandfaeces.The
seventhisthelaboriousmentaloperationwithPrana.
48.Whenattackedbysuchdiseases,theYogiwhoisafraidofthemsays,Mydiseaseshavearisenfrommy
practicesofYoga.Thenhewilldiscontinuethispractice.ThisisthefirstobstacletoYoga.
49.ThesecondobstacletoYogaisthedoubtastotheefficacyofYogapractice.

50.Thirdobstacleiscarelessnessorastateofconfusion.
51.Thefourthisindifferenceorlaziness.
52.SleepconstitutesthefifthobstacletoYogapractice.
53.Thesixthisnotleavingtheobjectsofsensestheseventhistheerroneousperceptionordelusion.
54.Theeighthissensualobjectsorconcernwithworldlyaffairs.Theninthiswantoffaith.Thetenthisnon
aptitudeforunderstandingofthetruthsofYoga.
TheRousingOfTheKundalini
55.TheintelligentpractitionerofYogashould,bymeansofcloseinvestigationandgreatdeliberation,avoid
thesetenobstacles.
56.WiththemindfirmlyfixedontheTruth,thepracticeofPranayamashouldbeperformeddaily.Thenthe
mindtakesitsreposeintheSushumna.ThePranathereforenevermoves.
57.WhentheimpuritiesofthemindarethusremovedandPranaisabsorbedintheSushumna,onebecomes
atrueYogin.
58.Whentheaccumulatedimpurity,cloggingtheSushumnaNadi,iscompletelyremovedandthepassageof
vitalairthroughtheSushumnaiseffectedbyperformingKevalaKumbhaka,theYoginforciblycausesthe
Apanawiththedownwardcoursetoriseupwardsbythecontractionoftheanus(MulaBandha).
59.Thusraisedup,theApanamixeswithAgni.ThentheygoupquicklytotheseatofPrana.Then,Prana
andApanaunitingwithoneanother,gotoKundaliniwhichiscoiledupandasleep.
60.HeatedbyAgniandstirredupbyVayu,Kundalinistretchesitsbodyintheinteriorofthemouthofthe
Sushumna.
TheKundaliniReachesTheSahasraraByPiercingThroughTheThreeKnots
61.TheKundalinipiercesthroughtheBrahmagranthiformedofRajas.Itflashesatoncelikelightningatthe
mouthofSushumna.
62.ThenKundalinigoesupatoncethroughVishnugranthitotheheart.Thenitgoesupthroughthe
Rudragranthiandaboveittothemiddleoftheeyebrows.
63.Havingpiercedthisplace,theKundalinigoesuptotheMandala(sphere)ofthemoon.Itdriesupthe
moistureproducedbythemoonintheAnahataChakrawhichhassixteenpetals.

andApanawhicharealwaysproducedbecomeequal.
72.Pranaflowsinallthings,bigandsmall,describableorindescribable,asfireingold.Thebreathalso
dissolvesitself.
73.Borntogetherofthesamequality,thePranaandtheApanaalsodissolvethemselvesinthepresenceof
SivaintheSahasrara.Havingreachedanequipoisedcondition,theynolongergoupordown.
74.ThentheYogithriveswiththePranaspreadoutwardintheformofattenuatedelementsorinthemere
remembranceofit,themindhavingbeenreducedtotheformoffaintimpressionsandthespeechhaving
remainedonlyintheformofrecollection.
75.Allthevitalairsthenspreadthemselvesoutrightinhisbodyevenasgoldinacrucibleplacedonfire.
ExperiencingEverythingAsConsciousnessDuringSamadhi
76.ThebodyoftheYogiattainsverysubtlestateofthepureBrahman.Bycausingthebodymadeofthe
elementstobeabsorbedinasubtlestateintheformoftheParamatmanorthesupremeDeity,thebodyof
theYogigivesupitsimpurecorporalstate.

77.ThataloneistheTruthunderlyingallthings,whichisreleasedfromthestateofnonsentienceandis
devoidofimpurities.
78.ThatalonewhichisofthenatureoftheAbsoluteConsciousness,whichisofthecharacteroftheattribute
Iofallbeings,theBrahman,thesubtlestformofThataloneistheTruthunderlyingallthings.
79.ThereleasefromthenotionthattheBrahmanisqualified,thedelusionabouttheexistenceornon
existenceofanythingapartfromtheBrahman(whichshouldbeannihilated)andexperiencesuchasthese
thatremain,theretheYogishouldknowastheBrahman.Simultaneouslywiththedrawingofsuch
knowledgeoftheformoftheAtman,theliberationisattainedbyhim.
80.Whensuchisnotthecase,onlyallkindsofabsurdandimpossiblenotionsarise.Theropeserpentand
suchotherabsurdnotions,broughtaboutbydelusiontaketheirrise.Absurdnotionslikethenotionwhich
menandwomenhave,ofsilver,intheshellofthepearloyster,arise.
81.TheYogishouldrealisetheonenessoftheVisvatmanandothersuptotheTuriya.Heshouldrealisethe
onenessofthemicrocosmwiththeViratAtmanandothers,uptotheTuriya,ofthemacrocosm,alsoofthe
LingawiththeSutratman,oftheSelfwiththeunmanifestedstate,oftheAtmanmanifestedinonesSelfwith
theAtmanofConsciousness.
TheSamadhiYoga
82.TheKundaliniSaktiislikeathreadintheLotus.Itisresplendent.Itisbitingwithitsmouth,theupper
endofitsbody,attherootoftheLotus,theMulakandaortheMuladhara.
83.ItisincontactwiththeholeofBrahmanadiofSushumna,takingholdofitstailwithitsmouth.
84.SeatedinPadmasana,ifapersonwhohasaccustomedhimselftothecontractionofhisanus(Mula
Bandha),makestheVayugoupwardswiththemindintentonKumbhaka,theAgnicomestothe
Svadhishthanaflaming,owingtotheblowingofVayu.
85.FromtheblowingofVayuandAgni,KundalinipiercesopentheBrahmagranthi.Itthenpiercesopenthe
Vishnugranthi.
86.ThentheKundalinipiercestheRudragranthi.Afterthat,itpiercesallthesixlotusesortheplexus.Then
theKundaliniSaktiishappywithSivainSahasradalaKamala,thethousandpetalledlotus.Thisshouldbe
knownasthehighestAvasthaorthestate.Thisaloneisthegiveroffinalbeatitude.Thusendsthefirst

1.Now,then,adescriptionofthesciencecalledKhechari.

2.Hewhohasdulymasteredthisscience,isfreedfromoldageanddeath,inthisworld.
3.Knowingthisscience,OSage,onewhoissubjecttothepainsofdeath,diseaseandoldage,shouldmake
hismindfirmandpractiseKhechari.
4.HewhohasgainedaknowledgeoftheKhecharifrombooks,fromtheexpositionofthemeaningofthe
same,andwhohasbyrecoursetoitspractice,gainedamasteryofthisscience,becomesthedestroyerof
oldage,deathanddisease,inthisworld.
5.Suchamaster,oneshouldapproachforshelter.Fromallpointsofview,oneshouldlookuponhimashis
Guru.
6.ThescienceofKhechariisnoteasilyaccessible.Itspracticeisnoteasilyattainable.Itspracticeand
Melanaarenotaccomplishedsimultaneously.Literally,Melanaisjoining.
7.ThekeytothisscienceofKhechariiskeptaprofoundsecret.Thesecretisrevealedbyadeptsonlyat
initiation.
8.TheydonotgetMelana,whoarebentonlyuponpractice.OBrahman,onlysomegetthepracticeafter
severalbirths.But,evenafterhundredbirths,Melanaisnotobtained.
9.Asaresultofhavingundergonethepracticeforseveralbirths,someYogisgettheMelanainsomefuture
birth.
10.TheYogiattainstheSiddhimentionedinseveralbooks,whenhegetsthisMelanafromthemouthofthe
Guru.
11.ThestateofSivafreedfromallrebirth,isachievedwhenthepractitionergetsthisMelanafromthe
graspofthesignificancepresentedinthebooks.
12.Thisscienceis,therefore,verydifficulttomaster.Untilhegetsthisscience,theasceticshouldwander
overearth.
13.TheascetichasphysicalpowersorSiddhisinhishand,themomentheobtainsthisscience.
14.OneshouldthereforeregardasAchyutaorVishnu,anypersonwhoimpartsthisMelana.Hetooshouldbe
regardedasAchyuta,whogivesthisscience.Hewhoteachesthepractice,shouldberegardedasSiva.
15.Youhavegotthesciencefromme.Youshouldnotrevealittoothers.Onewhoknowsthisscience,
shouldpractiseitwithallhisefforts.Excepttothosewhodeserveit,heshouldgiveittonone.
16.OnewhoisabletoteachtheDivineYoga,istheGuru.Totheplacewherehelives,oneshouldgo.Then,
learnfromhimthescienceofKhechari.

17.Taughtwellbyhim,oneshouldatfirstpractiseitcarefully.ApersonwillthenattaintheSiddhiof
Khechari,bymeansofthisscience.

theabodeoftheDevasortheKhecharas.ThemasteryoftheSiddhiisobtainedbythisYoga.
20.TheninthletterorBijaofSomamsaortheMoonface,shouldbepronouncedinthereverseorder.Then
consideritastheSupremeanditsbeginningasfifth.ThisissaidtobeKuta(horns)oftheseveralBhinnas
(orparts)ofthemoon.
21.ThroughtheinitiationofaGuru,thiswhichtendstotheaccomplishmentofallYogas,shouldbelearnt.
22.OnewhorecitesthistwelvetimeseverydaywillnotgeteveninsleepthatMayaorillusionwhichisborn
inhisbodyandisthesourceofallviciousdeeds.
23.Totheonewhorecitesthisfivelakhsoftimeswithverygreatcare,thescienceofKhechariwillreveal
itself.Forhim,allobstaclesvanish.TheDevasarepleased.Withoutdoubt,thedestructionofthegreynessof
hairandwrinkles,Valipalita,willtakeplace.
24.Onewhohasacquiredthegreatscience,shouldpractiseitconstantly.Otherwise,hewillnotgetany
SiddhiinthepathofKhechari.
25.Ifinthispractice,onedoesnotgetthisnectarlikescience,heshouldgetitinthebeginningofMelana
andreciteitalways.Otherwise,onewhoiswithoutitnevergetsSiddhi.
26.Nosooneronegetsthisscience,thanoneshouldpractiseit.ItisthenthatonewillsoongettheSiddhi.
27.ThesevensyllablesHRIM,BHAM,SAM,PAM,PHAM,SAMandKSHAMconstitutetheKhechariMantra.
TheCuttingOfFrenumLingui
28.AknoweroftheAtman,havingdrawnoutthetonguefromtherootofthepalate,shouldinaccordance
withtheadviceofhisGuru,cleartheimpuritiesofthetongueforsevendays.
29.Heshouldtakeasharp,oiledandcleansedknifewhichresemblestheleafoftheplantSnuhi,themilk
hedgeplant,andshouldcutforthespaceofahair,thefrenumlingui.HeshouldpowderSaindhavaorthe
rocksaltandPathyaortheseasaltandapplyittothatplace.

30.Ontheseventhday,heshouldagaincutforthespaceofahair.Thus,withgreatcare,heshould
continueitalways,forthespanofsixmonths.
31.Therootofthetongue,fixedwithveins,ceasestobeinsixmonths.ThentheYogiwhoknowstimely
actionshouldencirclewithcloththetipofthetongue,theabodeofVagIshvariorthedeitypresidingover
speech,andshoulddrawitup.

32.OSage,againbydailydrawingitupforsixmonths,itcomesasfarasthemiddleoftheeyebrowsand
obliquelyuptotheopeningoftheears.Bygradualpractice,itgoesuptotherootofthechin.
33.Then,witheaseitgoesuptotheendofthehair(ofthehead)inthreeyears.Itgoesupobliquelyto
Sakha(somepartbelowtheskull)anddownwardstothewellofthethroat.
34.ItoccupiesBrahmarandhra,inanotherthreeyears.Withoutdoubt,itstopsthere.Crosswiseitgoesupto
thetopoftheheadanddownwardstothewellofthethroat.Graduallyitopensthegreatadamantinedoorin
thehead.
35.OneshouldperformthesixAngasorpartsoftheKhechariBijaMantrabypronouncingitinsixdifferent
intonations.InordertoattainalltheSiddhis,oneshoulddothis.
36.KaranyasaorthemotionsofthefingersandhandsinthepronunciationoftheMantras,shouldbedone
gradually.Karanyasashouldneverbedoneallatatime,becausethebodyofonewhodoesitallatoncewill
soondecay.ObestoftheSages,littlebylittleitshouldbepractised.
37.Oneshould,whenthetonguegoestotheBrahmarandhrathroughtheouterpath,placethetongueafter
movingtheboltofBrahma.TheboltofBrahmacannotbemasteredbytheDevas.
38.Ondoingthiswiththepointofthefingerforthreeyears,theYogishouldmakethetongueenterwithin.
ItenterstheBrahmadvaraorhole.OnenteringtheBrahmadvara,oneshouldpractisewellMathanaor
churning.
39.EvenwithoutMathana,somewiseYogisattainSiddhi.HealsoaccomplishesitwithoutMathana,whois
versedinKhechariMantra.OnereapsthefruitsoonbydoingJapaandMathana.
40.TheYogishouldrestrainhisbreathinhisheart,byconnectingawiremadeofgold,silverorironwith
thenostrilsbymeansofathreadsoakedinmilk.Sittinginaconvenientposture,withhiseyesconcentrated
betweenhiseyebrows,heshouldperformMathanaslowly.
41.TheStateofMathanabecomesnaturallikesleepinchildren,withinsixmonths.Itisnotadvisabletodo
Mathanaalways.Itshouldbedoneonceonlyineverymonth.

42.AYogishouldnotrevolvehistongueinthepath.Twelveyearsofthispractice,willsurelygivetheSiddhi
totheYogi.ThentheYogiperceivestheentireuniverseinhisbodyasnotbeingdifferentfromtheAtman.

TheYoginwhoworksforliberationdoessothroughKundaliniYogawhichgivesbothenjoymentand
liberation.AteverycentretowhichherousesKundaliniheexperiencesspecialformofblissandgains
specialpowers.CarryingHertoSivaathiscerebralcentre,heenjoystheSupremeblisswhichinitsnature
isthatofLiberationandwhichwhenestablishedinpermanenceisLiberationitselfonthelooseningofspirit
andbody.
Energy(Sakti)polarisesitselfintotwoformsnamely,staticorpotential(Kundalini)dynamic(theworking
forcesofthebodyasPrana).Behindallactivitythereisastaticbackground.Thisstaticcentreinthehuman
bodyisthecentreserpentpowerintheMuladhara(rootsupport).
ThisstaticSaktiisaffectedbyPranayamaandotherYogicprocessesandbecomesdynamic.Thuswhen
completelydynamicthatiswhenKundaliniuniteswithSivaintheSahasrarathepolarisationofthebody
givesway.ThetwopolesareunitedinoneandthereisthestateofconsciousnesscalledSamadhi.The
polarisation,ofcourse,takesplaceinconsciousness.Thebodyactuallycontinuestoexistasanobjectof
observationtoothers.Itcontinuesitsorganiclife.Butmansconsciousnessofhisbodyandallotherobjects,
iswithdrawnbecausethemindhasceasedsofarashisconsciousnessisconcerned,thefunctionhavingbeen
withdrawnintoitsgroundwhichisConsciousness.
Whenawakened,KundaliniSakticeasestobeastaticpowerwhichsustainstheworldconsciousness,the
contentofwhichisheldonlysolongasshesleepsandwhenoncesetinmovementKundaliniisdrawnto
thatotherstaticcentreintheThousandpetalledLotus(Sahasrara)toattainunionwiththeSiva
Consciousnessortheconsciousnessofecstasybeyondtheworldofforms.WhenKundalinisleepsmanis
awaketothisworld.Whenshewakeshesleepsi.e.losesallconsciousnessoftheworldandentersthe
causalbody.InYogahepassesbeyondtoformlessconsciousness.

columnstraightintothetriangularlotus,theMuladharaChakra.Imaginethatthenervecurrentisstriking
againsttheLotusandawakeningtheKundalini.Thenslowlyexhalethroughtherightnostrilcounting6Oms.
Repeattheprocessfromtherightnostrilasstatedaboveusingthesameunitsandhavingthesame
imaginationandfeeling.ThisPranayamawillawakentheKundaliniquickly.Doit3timesinthemorningand
3timesintheevening.Increasethenumberandtimegraduallyandcautiouslyaccordingtoyourstrength
andcapacity.InthisPranayamaconcentrationontheMuladharaChakraistheimportantthing,Kundaliniwill
beawakenedquicklyifthedegreeofconcentrationisintenseandifthePranayamaispractisedregularly.

AftermentallyprostratingtothelotusfeetoftheSatguruandrecitingStotrasinpraiseofGodandGuru,
commencedoingthisPranayamawhichwilleasilyleadtotheawakeningoftheKundalini.
Inhaledeeplywithoutmakinganysound.Asyouinhale,feelthattheKundalinilyingdormantinthe
MuladharaChakraisawakenedandisgoingupfromChakratoChakra.AttheconclusionofthePuraka,have
theBhavanathattheKundalinihasreachedtheSahasrara.ThemorevividthevisualisationofChakraafter
Chakra,themorerapidwillbeyourprogressinthisSadhana.
Retainthebreathforashortwhile.RepeatthePranavaoryourIshtaMantra.ConcentrateontheSahasrara
Chakra.FeelthatbytheGraceofMotherKundalini,thedarknessofignoranceenvelopingyoursoulhasbeen
dispelled.Feelthatyourwholebeingispervadedbylight,powerandwisdom.

Thelowerpartofthefrontportionofthetongue,thefrenumlingua,iscuttotheextentofahairsbreadth
withasharpknifeonceinaweek.Afterwardspowderofturmericisdustedoverit.Thisiscontinuedfor
somemonths.ThisisChhedan.
AfterwardstheYogicstudentappliesbuttertothetongueandlengthensitdaily.Hedrawsthetongueinsuch
awaythatitissimilartotheprocessofmilkingtheudderofacow.ThisisDohan.
Whenthetongueissufficientlylong(itshouldtouchthetipofthenose)thestudentfoldsit,takesitback

AGuruorpreceptorisindispensableforthepracticeofYoga.TheaspirantinthepathofYogashouldbe
humble,simple,gentle,refined,tolerant,mercifulandkind.Ifyouhaveacuriositytogetpsychicpowers
youcannothavesuccessinYoga.Yogadoesnotconsistinsittingcrossleggedforsixhoursorstoppingthe
pulseorbeatingoftheheartorgettingoneselfburiedunderneaththegroundforaweekoramonth.
Selfsufficiency,impertinence,pride,luxury,name,fame,selfassertivenature,obstinacy,ideaof
superiority,sensualdesires,evilcompany,laziness,overeating,overwork,toomuchmixingandtoomuch
talkingaresomeoftheobstaclesinthepathofYoga.Admityourfaultsfreely.Whenyouarefreefromall

SomeYogicstudentsthinkthatonlyhewhocanflyintheair,walkonthewater,anddosuchothermiracles,
canbecalledaYogi.Itisasadmistake.Tobepeaceful,tobecalm,toradiatejoy,tohaveanintense
aspirationtorealiseGod,tohavethespiritofserviceanddevotion,tobeselfcontrolledthisisrealYoga.
Flyingintheairisnotyoga.Whyshouldoneaspiretoflylikeabirdafterattainingthehumanbirth?You
musthaveawillinghearttoserveeverybodyandadesiretopossessalldivinevirtues.ThisisYoga.
Youridealshouldbetobegood,andtodogood.Beeverwillingtosharewhatyouhavewithothers.
Youshouldhaveaknowledgeofthescriptures,devotiontoyourpreceptor,saintsandsages.EvenNirvikalpa
Samadhiisnotnecessary.WhydoyouwanttogetyourselfmergedintheAbsolute?Haveasmallveilof
individualityandservehereasNityasiddhas.Possessdivinequalitiesandmoveasadivinebeingonthis
earth.Aspirenotforpowers.Powerswillcomebythemselves.Possessallnoblevirtues.Befreefromhatred

attachment.Butnobodywantstoserve!Everybodywantstobeservedbyothers.Youwillhavetokillthe
ego.Youwillhavetopulverizeit,makeitapowder.Youwillhavetoextractoilfromyourbonesandburnit
forsixmonths.Suchisthetoil,asitwere,toprogressinthepathofselfrealisation.
Begooddogood.Thisistheessenceoftheteachingsofallscripturesandprophetsoftheworld.Thosewho
wantinnerlifeareveryfew.Allarethirstingforhappiness,buttheydonotknowwheretheycanget
happiness.Theysearchforitinwealthandmaterialpossessions.Mayaisclever.Sheneverallowspeopleto
tastetheblissofaninnerlifeintheAtman.Deludedbyherpower,manthinksthatthereisno
transcendentalrealm,thatthereisnothingbeyondthesenses.Eat,drinkandbemerry,thishasbecome
themottooflife.ThepathtotherealmofGodisopenonlytothosewhohavegottheDivineGrace.
MayyouallknowthetrueimportofYoga,andbaseyourlifeonselflessservicetohumanitywithAtma
Bhava,andthedevelopmentofalldivinevirtues.Mayyouallhavesustainedaspiration.Practisedeep

YogaAndItsConsummation
YogaistheartofunitingtheindividualsoulwiththeSupremeSoul,ofunitingtheKundaliniSaktilying
dormantintheMuladharaChakrawithSivaintheSahasraraChakra.Byconvention,allpracticesthathelp
theattainmentofthisgoalarealsocalledYoga.
VedantasaysthattheindividualsoulisenvelopedbyfivesheathsAnnamayaKosha(thegrossbody),
PranamayaKosha(vitalsheath),ManomayaKosha(themind),VijnanamayaKosha(theintellect),and
AnandamayaKosha(theblisssheathortheignorancethatimmediatelyveilstheSelf),andthatthegoalof
life,viz.,Selfrealisationisattainedbynegatingthefivesheathsandpiercingtheveilofignorance.
Whendoweregardaparticularpartororganofthebodyasperfectlyhealthy?Whenwearenotmade
awareofthatorgan.Theearisinperfecthealthwhenwearenotawarethatthatorganexistsifthereis
painweareconsciousofitspresence.Inordertotranscendthefivesheaths,therefore,theymustallbe
freefromafflictions.Yogahelpsyoutodothat.
ThepurificatoryKriyasofHathaYogaandAsanasensurehealthofthebodyandfreeitfromailments.
Pranayamarevitalisesthevitalsheath.Pratyahara(withdrawaloftheraysofthemindandrestrainingthem
fromflowingoutwards)andDharana(concentration)strengthenthemind.Meditationbringsaboutahappy
blendingoftheintellectandintuitionandtheYogisintelligencebecomesintuitive.Samadhiilluminesthe
soulandrevealstheSelf,bypiercingtheveilofignorance.ThisisYoga,theperfectsystemofallroundself
culture.
Butnoonecanembarkonthisnobleenterprisewithoutpreparingthevessel.YamaNiyamaorthecanonsof
rightconduct,ensurethis.Onewhohasnotcontrolledhissenses,whoisnottruthful,kind,compassionate
andpure,cannotmakeanyprogressinSadhana.Energyleaksoutthroughalltheavenuesofhisbody.His
vitalsheathisdebilitated.Hismindiscompletelyextroverted.Hisintellectisdull.Hissoulisenvelopedin
densedarkness.Meditationforsuchamanisonlyadream.ThereforeIinsistonallspiritualaspirantsthat
theyshould:
1.EngagethemselvesinNishkamaKarmaYoga,forselfpurificationandcultivationofvirtuesand
2.PractiseasmuchJapaaspossible,inordertoearnHisGrace.
ThesetwoKarmaYogaandBhaktiYogacannotbeoveremphasised.
Oncethesensesarecontrolled,andtheheartpurified,controlofmind,concentrationofitsrays,and
meditationbecomeveryeasy.Theaspirantwoulddowelltorememberthetwogreatwatchwordsof
Sadhana
(a)Abhyasa(unrelenting,intense,unbroken,regularandsystematicpractice),

(b)Vairagya(dispassion,aversiontoallsensualenjoyments,nonattachmenttoobjectsofsenses).
Totheextenttowhichtheaspirantgrowsinthesetwo,tothatextentwillhismindwanttomeditate.There
willbejoyinmeditation.Themindwilllookforwardtotheperiodofmeditation.Whenthiscondition
becomesintense,thenthemindwillbeinaconstantstateofmeditation.Asyourhandsareengagedinthe
workoftheday,themindwillbeblissfullydetachedfromtheworld,peacefullywitnessingSakshiBhava
theplayofthesensesandthesenseobjects.Whenyouareestablishedinthisstate,youareaperfected
Yogi.Youhaveonlytositandcloseyoureyesyouwillinstantlytranscendthefivesheathsandmergeinthe
SupremeSoul.YouractionswillbeintunewiththeDivineWill.Youwillhavethesuperhumanpowersof
intellect,mindandbody.Youwillneverbetired,dullordepressed.Yourwordswillhavelifetransforming
power.Yourheartwillbefullofcompassionandloveforhumanity,andallhumanitywillbedrawntowards
you.Youwillbecomeaspiritualmagnet.YouwillshineasaYogi,sageandJivanmukta.Youareliberated.
ThisistheGoal.

TheGradationalAscentOfTheMind
TheChakrasarecentresofShaktiasvitalforceinotherwords,thesearecentresofPranashakti
manifestedbyPranavayuinthelivingbody,thepresidingDevatasofwhicharethenamesfortheUniversal
Consciousnessasitmanifestsintheformofthesecentres.TheChakrasarenotperceptibleinthegross
senses.Eveniftheywereperceptibleinthelivingbodywhichtheyhelptoorganisetheydisappearwiththe
disintegrationoforganismatdeath.
PurityofmindleadstoperfectioninYoga.Regulateyourconductwhenyoudealwithothers.Havenofeeling
ofjealousytowardsothers.Becompassionate.Donothatesinners.Bekindtoall.SuccessinYogawillbe
rapidifyouputyourmaximumenergyinyourYogapractice.Youmusthaveakeenlongingforliberation
andintenseVairagyaalso.Youmustbesincereandearnest.Intenseandconstantmeditationisnecessary
forenteringintoSamadhi.
ThemindofaworldlymanwithbasedesiresandpassionsmovesintheMuladharaandSvadhishthana
Chakrasorcentressituatedneartheanusandthereproductiveorganrespectively.
IfonesmindbecomespurifiedthemindrisestotheManipuraChakraorthecentreinthenaveland
experiencessomepowerandjoy.
Ifthemindbecomesmorepurified,itrisestotheAnahataChakraorcentreintheheart,experiencesbliss
andvisualisestheeffulgentformoftheIshtaDevataorthetutelarydeity.
Whenthemindgetshighlypurified,themeditationanddevotionbecomeintenseandprofound,themind
risestoVishuddhaChakraorthecentreinthethroatandexperiencesmoreandmorepowersandbliss.Even
whenthemindhasreachedthiscentre,thereispossibilityforittocomedowntothelowercentres.

WhentheYogireachestheAjnaChakraorthecentrebetweenthetwoeyebrowsheattainsSamadhiand
realisesthesupremeSelforBrahman.Thereisaslightsenseofseparatenessbetweenthedevoteeand
Brahman.
Ifhereachesthespiritualcentreinthebrain,theSahasraraChakra,thethousandpetalledlotustheYogi
attainsNirvikalpaSamadhiorsuperconsciousstateHebecomesonewiththenondualBrahman.Allsense
ofseparatenessdissolves.ThisisthehighestplaneofconsciousnessorSupremeAsamprajnataSamadhi.
KundaliniuniteswithSiva.
TheYogimaycomedowntothecentreinthethroattogiveinstructionstothestudentsanddogoodto
others(Lokasamgraha).
ExperiencesOnAwakeningOfKundalini
Duringmeditationyoubeholddivinevisions,experiencedivinesmell,divinetaste,divinetouch,heardivine
AnahataSounds.YoureceiveinstructionsfromGod.TheseindicatethattheKundaliniShaktihasbeen
awakened.WhenthereisthrobbinginMuladhara,whenhairstandsonitsroot,whenUddiyana,Jalandhara
andMulabandhacomeinvoluntarily,knowthatKundalinihasawakened.
Whenthebreathstopswithoutanyeffort,whenKevalaKumbhakacomesbyitselfwithoutanyexertion,
knowthatKundaliniShaktihasbecomeactive.WhenyoufeelcurrentsofPranarisinguptotheSahasrara,
whenyouexperiencebliss,whenyourepeatOmautomatically,whentherearenothoughtsoftheworldin
themind,knowthatKundaliniShaktihasawakened.
When,inyourmeditation,theeyesbecomefixedonTrikuti,themiddleoftheeyebrows,whentheSambhavi
Mudraoperates,knowthatKundaliniShaktihasbecomeactive.WhenyoufeelvibrationsofPranain
differentpartsinsideyourbody,whenyouexperiencejerksliketheshocksofelectricity,knowthatKundalini
hasbecomeactive.Duringmeditationwhenyoufeelasifthereisnobody,whenyoureyelidsbecomeclosed
anddonotopeninspiteofyourexertion,whenelectriclikecurrentsflowupanddownthenerves,know
thatKundalinihasawakened.
Whenyoumeditate,whenyougetinspirationandinsight,whenthenatureunfoldsitssecretstoyou,all
doubtsdisappear,youunderstandclearlythemeaningoftheVedictexts,knowthatKundalinihasbecome
active.Whenyourbodybecomeslightlikeair,whenyoupossessinexhaustibleenergyforwork,knowthat
Kundalinihasbecomeactive.
Whenyougetdivineintoxication,whenyoudeveloppoweroforation,knowthatKundalinihasawakened.
WhenyouinvoluntarilyperformdifferentAsanasorposesofYogawithouttheleastpainorfatigue,know
thatKundalinihasbecomeactive.Whenyoucomposebeautifulsublimehymnsandpoetryinvoluntarily,
knowthatKundalinihasbecomeactive.
TheQuintessenceOfYoga

AYogiisfreedfromKarmaorthelawofcauseandeffect,frombirthsanddeathsandfromthetrammelsof
mindandflesh.
TheYogihasperfectcontroloverhislifeforcesandmind.Hecandematerialiseatwill.
TheYogipractisesdisciplineofbodyandmind.Hehascontroloverhisbodyandmind.HemeditatesonOm.
Yogaillumines,renovatesandhelpstheYogitoattainthehighestpointofperfection.
Ifoneawakenshissuperconsciousness,therewillbenoproblemsatall.Therewillbeonlylove,peace,
harmony,unityandhappinessinthisworld.

ThepracticeofYogalessensandpreventsthedecayoftissues,byincreasingthelifeforce,andfillsthe
