Message of Our Lady of Fatima

More Disinformation Against the

The campaign to silence the full message of Our Lady of Fatima by means of
distortions and misrepresentations continues.
This time it is the Bishop of Leiria-Fatima, Msgr. Alberto Cosme do Amaral, who
has distorted and misrepresented Our Lady's message in such a way that would
appear to bring the message into conformity with Cardinal Casaroli's pro-Soviet
Ostpolitik.
In a recently published interview, Bishop Cosme do Amaral spoke in such a
manner so as to create the distinct impression in the mind of the reader that
the consecration of Russia demanded by Our Lady of Fatima has already been
performed.
Interestingly however, the bishop carefully avoids making any explicit statement
that Our Lady of Fatima's request for the consecration of Russia has already
been fulfilled by the Pope and the bishops. Our concern about the consecration
of Russia is "exaggerated", says the bishop: "Many people have mentioned this
preoccupation to me, and I try to calm these people."
Sister Lucia has stated as recently as July 20, 1987, 1 that the consecration of
Russia requested by Our Lady of Fatima has not been done.
Is this cause for alarm or is it not? "Tell them Father", Sister Lucia said to Father
Fuentes, "that many times the Most Holy Virgin told my cousins Francisco and
Jacinta that many nations will disappear from the earth. She said that Russia
will be the instrument of chastisement chosen by Heaven to punish the whole
world if we do not beforehand obtain the conversion of that poor nation."
Bishop Cosme do Amaral clearly implies that the prospect of this dreadful horror
taking place in the very near future should not disturb us.

The Consecration of Russia Is No Idle Concern

Our Holy Father, Pope John Paul II, in his homily at Fatima asked the question:
"Can the Mother, who desires everyone's salvation with all the force of the love
that She fosters in the Holy Spirit, keep silence on what undermines the very
basis of each one's salvation? No, She cannot."

It is because She cannot remain silent that the Mother of God came to Fatima to
warn us that God "is going to punish the world by means of war, hunger and
persecution of the Church and the Holy Father."2 "To prevent it," Our Lady said,
"I shall come to ask for the consecration of Russia to My Immaculate Heart, and
the Communion of reparation on the first Saturdays."3
Our Lady has revealed that it is the consecration of Russia that will prevent war,
hunger, persecution and the annihilation of entire nations, but incredibly Bishop
Cosme do Amaral is reported to have said that "we are wasting our time
worrying about the consecration of Russia."
The consecration of Russia concerns everyone: our survival as individuals,
families and nations depends on that consecration. Our life as Christians
depends on that consecration.
The eternal salvation of a multitude of souls depends on that consecration, and
therefore it is our right and our duty to make known to our pastors and
superiors our concern about the consecration of Russia requested by Our Lady
of Fatima.
Bishop Amaral speaks as though the consecration of Russia were a matter that
concerns only the Pope, and therefore (he implies) no one but the Pope should
concern himself with it. "The Holy Father has received many charisms," says
Bishop Amaral, "charisms which no one else received. It is his decision."
While both of these statements are true statements, neither one is ad rem (to
the point). It is true that the Pope has many charisms, and it is true that it is
the Pope's decision, but it is also true that the Faithful have a right and
sometimes a duty to inform their pastors of their spiritual needs and concerns,
especially when their own welfare, both spiritual and temporal is at stake.

If it is Not Done in Time

You Will Lose All
It is the right of the Faithful to appeal to the Holy Father in matters of
ecclesiastical jurisdiction, and certainly it is most reasonable that the Faithful
appeal to the Pope in this matter, since the evidence manifestly demonstrates
that the consecration of Russia requested by Our Lady of Fatima has not been
done.
The Holy Father himself, John Paul II, has publicly stated that Our Lady of
Fatima is still waiting for the consecration to be performed.
It is no idle concern for the Faithful to be preoccupied about the consecration of
Russia since, if it is not performed in time, we stand to lose all: our property,

our families, our freedom of religion, even our lives and possibly our souls if
that consecration demanded by Our Lady of Fatima is no properly performed.
Since the first attempt to perform the consecration of Russia was made in 1952
by Pope Pius XII, Sister Lucia has repeatedly stated both verbally and in writing
that the consecration has not been done in the manner that Our Lady of Fatima
requested.
It is important to bear in mind that Our Lady of Fatima, in the name of the Most
Blessed Trinity, personally entrusted the request for the consecration of Russia
to Sister Lucia. Sister Lucia has been accredited by God as the bearer of a
prophetic message, and her prophetic message has been officially approved by
the Church.
On June 12, 1930, Sister Lucia explained in her letter that Our Lady's request
for the consecration of Russia will be fulfilled when "the Holy Father will himself
make a solemn public act of reparation and consecration of Russia ... His
Holiness must also order all the bishops of the Catholic world to do the same."

Gravely Misleading Statements

Bishop Amaral Makes
It is important also to bear in mind that Bishop Cosme do Amaral was
personally present on the afternoon of March 21, 1982, when Sister Lucia
explained precisely what the Pope and the bishops must do in order to fulfill Our
Lady of Fatima's request for the consecration of Russia.
On that Sunday afternoon, Sister Lucia explained that the Pope must select a
date on which to order the bishops of the whole world to arrange for a public
and solemn act of reparation and of consecration of RUSSIA to the most Sacred
Hearts of Jesus and Mary, each in his own cathedral and at the same time as
the act of consecration effected by the Pope.
In spite of the obvious fact that the above described act of consecration has
never been performed, Bishop Cosme do Amaral has made numerous
statements which clearly create the false impression that the consecration of
Russia requested by Our Lady of Fatima has already been performed.
A detailed examination of the bishop's words make it clear that he is engaged in
a campaign of deception and disinformation against Sister Lucia which distorts
Our Lady's message.
Referring to Pope Pius XII's consecration of the world in 1942, the Bishop of
Fatima says:

"I do not believe we are exaggerating, if we say that we see here a

consecration of Russia that is implicit ... But Pope Pius went even further
in 1952 when he consecrated explicitly all the people of Russia on the
feast of Sts. Cyril and Methodius ... The Holy Father said quite clearly, we
consecrate you, all the people of Russia. Thus there can be no doubt that
the Holy Father consecrated explicitly the peoples of Russia."

Bishop Amaral's Deceptive Words Answered

Bishop Amaral knows very well that the consecrations of 1942 and 1952 did not
fulfill Our Lady of Fatima's request. On June 13, 1929, Our Lady of Fatima
appeared to Sister Lucia in Tuy, Spain, and said: "The moment has come in
which God asks the Holy Father to make in union with all the bishops of the
world, the consecration of Russia to My Immaculate Heart, promising to save it
by this means."
The 1942 consecration was not a solemn and public consecration of Russia: it
was a consecration of the world that only included Russia in a general and
implicit way.
The 1952 consecration of Russia was not performed in union with all the bishops
of the world.
No one who has seriously studied the Fatima message can claim that either of
these two consecrations fulfilled the request of Our Lady of Fatima since, as
Sister Lucia explains, Our Lady requires that "the Holy Father will himself make
a solemn act of reparation and consecration of Russia ... as well as ordering all
the bishops of the Catholic world to do the same."4
The next consecration that the Bishop of Fatima mentions is the 1964
consecration of the world, performed by Pope Paul VI at the Second Vatican
Council, but even he, Bishop Cosme do Amaral acknowledges the fact that that
act of consecration was "not specifically for Russia but for all the world." The
same is true of the consecrations of the world made by Pope John Paul II on
May 13, 1982, and March 25, 1984. These consecrations were not specifically of
Russia but of the whole world.
Bishop Cosme do Amaral involves himself in some serious and deceptive
hairsplitting when he expounds on the two last mentioned consecrations of the
world.
Sister Lucia has unequivocally stated that these consecrations do not fulfill Our
Lady of Fatima's request for the consecration of Russia.
After the 1982 consecration, Sister Lucia explained to the Apostolic Nuncio,
Msgr. Sante Portalupi, Father Messias and Dr. Lacerda that the consecration of

Russia had not been effected because Russia was not clearly the object of the
consecration and because each bishop had not arranged a public solemn
ceremony of Russia's consecration in his own cathedral.
The 1984 consecration, being substantially identical to the consecration of 1982,
likewise suffered the same two defects, and therefore it is no surprise that
Sister Lucia again stated on July 20, 1987, in the above-cited interview with
Enrique Romero, that the consecration of Russia has not yet been done in the
manner that Our Lady of Fatima has requested.

Pope John Paul II and Sister Lucia Publicly Acknowledge

Consecration Not Done
The Holy Father, Pope John Paul II, has acknowledged publicly, on March 25,
1984, that the consecration requested by Our Lady of Fatima has not yet been
done. His statement was published in his own newspaper, L'Osservatore
Romano.
Recently, a very distinguished Catholic from Eastern Europe revealed to me that
he had asked the Pope why he has not yet consecrated Russia. The Holy Father
answered saying that he did not yet have the support of certain Cardinals.
Sister Lucia has stated publicly (as recently as 1987) and in writing that the
consecration of Russia requested by Our Lady has not yet been done.
In spite of the explicit admissions and acknowledgments of both the Holy Father
and Sister Lucia, there is still confusion in this matter due to efforts, organized
in certain quarters, to misrepresent the words of Sister Lucia.
It is important to bear in mind that Sister Lucia has never written or stated that
the consecration of Russia has been done according to the request of Our Lady
of Fatima. This, unfortunately, has not prevented certain undiscerning and
unscrupulous individuals from distorting Sister Lucia's words in such a manner
as to create the false impression that she has indeed so stated.

Very Recent Disinformation Against Fatima

In recent months I have been told that Sister Lucia has written in a letter that
the consecration of Russia requested by Our Lady of Fatima has already been
done in the manner requested by Our Lady. Since I had not yet seen the letter,
it was not possible for me to say anything at that time, except that it seemed to
me highly unlikely that Sister Lucia would ever say that.
The reason why it seemed so unlikely is that such a statement would contradict
everything that she has ever said and written on the subject of the consecration
of Russia in the last sixty years. I did not think it likely that she would make a

statement that would thus discredit herself before the whole world and before
the tribunal of history.

The Half Truths Answered

During my trip to Fatima last month, (October, 1989) I had the opportunity to
read Sister Lucia's letter, and I also obtained a photocopy of it. The letter is
addressed to Sister Maria de Belem, date August 29, 1989.
With the copy of the letter under my eyes, I hereby categorically state that
nowhere in the letter does Sister Lucia say that the consecration of Russia
requested by Our Lady of Fatima has been done according to Our Lady of
Fatima's request.
In her letter, Sister Lucia does not even address that question rather, she
answers a question about the consecration of the world. Before answering the
question, Sister Lucia restates it: "Has the consecration of the world according
to the request of Our Lady been done?" In answering the question, she doesn't
even mention the consecration of Russia performed by Pope Pius XII in 1952,
but she writes only of the consecration of the world performed by the same
Pope in 1942.
The entire letter deals exclusively with the question of the consecration of
the world and does not in any manner deal with the question of the
consecration of Russia requested by Our Lady of Fatima at Tuy on June 13,
1929.

What is most despicable in this affair is the unscrupulous efforts being made in
certain quarters to misrepresent and distort Sister Lucia's own words in order to
make it appear that she is saying that the consecration of Russia requested by
Our Lady of Fatima has already been done, whereas in reality she has never so
stated.
It is bad enough that the enemies of Our Lady of Fatima should falsely maintain
that the consecration that She requested has already been done, but what is
really shameless is their attempt to make Sister Lucia appear to be an
accomplice in their politically motivated lies.

Let Sister Lucia Speak Publicly

Sister Lucia must be allowed to speak her own mind in this matter. She must be
allowed to do so in public officially and for the record, because unscrupulous
elements in the hierarchy of the Church are orchestrating a campaign to
misrepresent and distort her own words in such a manner that falsifies the
message of Our Lady of Fatima.
Sister Lucia has the right to speak out, with or without the permission of her
superiors or the bishop or even the Pope because it is her right according to the
Natural Law that she be able to defend her reputation in public since those who
distort and falsify the message of Fatima, have done so in a public manner that
misrepresents her and damages her reputation.

The Pope Must Reply to Millions of Petitions

The Pope also has a duty to settle this question once and for all. Millions of
Catholics from all over the world have petitioned the Pope for the consecration
of Russia to be performed according to the request of Our Lady of Fatima.
I am not dictating to the Pope how he must rule, but I am stating that it
pertains to the duty of his office that he issue a ruling. The Pope is a public
official, and it is therefore necessary that he carry out the duties of his public
office.
If a judge hears a case, it is not for the public to dictate to the judge how he
must rule, but the judge must issue a ruling, and the people have a right to
demand it. Likewise, the Pope has the duty to give a ruling regarding the
consecration of Russia.
The Pope is the supreme judge on earth regarding prophetic revelations. The
message of Fatima therefore falls within his ecclesiastical jurisdiction. The
Catholic Church infallibly teaches that the Faithful have the right to appeal to
the Pope in matters of ecclesiastical jurisdiction.5

Millions of Catholics all over the world have exercised their right, and have
petitioned the Pope for the consecration of Russia. The Pope may not remain
silent because the Faithful have a right to be given a ruling in this matter.
We are waiting. Time is running out. The world heads for the abyss. The Pope
remains silent. It is high time that the Pope respect the rights of the Faithful
and settle this question once and for all.
