Summary
Delhi Government Homoeopathic Dispensaries enjoy a high patient turn
out all over. Some cases studies from these dispensaries highlight how
homoeopathic treatment is not only safe but also efficacious and cost
effective.
Keywords
Homoeopathy, efficacious, safe, cost effective, organon, uterine fibroid,
depression, bells palsy, rheumatoid arthritis
Introduction
Homoeopathy has either been a reliable mode of treatment for people and
families by choice or because they are sick and tired of being dependent
on drugs that often cause more problems than the original sufferings. On
the other hand, we have people criticising homeopathy as being
unscientific, which, however, is unacceptable to the regular users.
For this ever-present conflict, it is most appropriate to quote Professor
Alex Broom, Head of Sociology at the University of Queensland, "For me,
the crux of the debate is a disjunction between how the scientific and
medical community view homeopathy, and what many in our communities
are getting out of it.[1]
Homoeopathic system of medicine, as a part of AYUSH, enjoys huge
governmental backing all over India, unlike any other country worldwide.
As an icing on the cake, we also enjoy an overwhelming public patronage.
These two parameters are majorly responsible for the ever-increasing
market of homoeopathy in this country. This can be seen in any of the
Delhi Government homoeopathic dispensary (DGHD), which enjoy high
patient turnout. Even in the absence of former in most of the other
countries worldwide, the latter alone is propelling its market.[2]
And, the onus now lies on us, homoeopathic physicians, to record our
clinical experiences with accuracy and lab works, as much as possible. As
Hahnemann said in preface to the first edition of Organon, this endeavor
shall render us thrice blessed.[3]
While on Organon, I shall reminisce, the following words of Late Dr. Royal
Samuel Copeland, who was not only a homeopathic physician, but also
thrice elected US senator and founder of FDA (Federal Food, Drug &
Cosmetic Act), ..In closing, I desire to give my personal testimony to the
foresight, the scientific accuracy, the logical presentation, the minimum of
error, and the maximum of eternal verity shown by a man who lived in an
epoch of superstition, who practiced during the dark ages of medicine,

who knew nothing of the modern laboratory idea, yet whose gigantic
intellect was capable of formulating a system of therapeutics so accurate
in its essential parts that the rest of the scientific world has adjusted and
readjusted itself until now it snugly enfolds and perfectly fits every feature
of the homoeopathic doctrine. Study the modern ideas of disease and the
morbid processes as they are now understood, delve in physical chemistry
as it is taught in every university of the world, listen to the forensic
eloquence of the physicist, the chemist, the physiologist, and the
pathologist, then take from its shelf the "Organon of the Art of Healing"
written a hundred years by one Samuel Hahnemann, and it will be found
that the notes of all these latter day scientists are so attuned that when
that voice of a century ago sings its lay to the modern music there is not
a suspicion of discord, but in perfect sweetness the whole temple of
science is resonant and reverberant in one symphony of perfect
harmony..[4,5]
I share with you some of the clinical experiences with homoeopathy, at
DGHD, which highlight it to be efficacious, safe and cost effective.
Clinical cases
Case no 1: Uterine fibroid
Ms S, 33 years old, consulted at DGHD WUS health centre, south campus,
on 17-12-14 for uterine fibroid. She had undergone ultrasonography on
10-12-14, which had revealed a post wall 11x9 mm, uterine fibroid along
with 32x30x34 mm Right ovarian cyst.
She had been suffering with protracted menses for 12-13 days, over last
few months. She was also suffering with lumbago, tightness in entire
abdomen and a throbbing pain in left lower abdomen. She dated her
complaints to a severe episode of typhoid about an year earlier, after
which she hadnt regained her health back.
She was prescribed 3 doses of Typhoidinum 200, on 17-12-14, which were
repeated on 20-2-15, because of persisting throbbing pain in left lower
abdomen. Rest of the times she was on placebo.
Her periods reduced considerably after the medication and her last cycle
on 7-5-15, lasted for a week only and there was no feeling of any pain or
discomfort.
Her ultrasonography repeated on 29-5-15 revealed only a left oavrain
follicular cyst; no trace of fibroid as seen in last report.
The copy of her OPD (out patients department) slip at DGHD is attached
below, which shows complete cure of 11x9 mm posterior wall uterine
fibroid in a 33 years old lady within a span of 5 months.

Case no 2: Depression
Mrs M, 80 years old, DGHD Aali village OPD regn no 2334, was first
brought by her daughter-in-law on 19-5-15 for constant weeping/
moaning due to stomach pain, headache and sensation of heat in body for
last few months. Her complaints had worsened over last one month.
Abdominal ultrasonography done on 6-5-15 revealed dilated right sided
bowel loops and right sided lower pole renal cortical cyst. Antidepressants
and analgesics taken over last few weeks had provided little relief. Her
condition, at the time of first consultation, may be seen in the following
video clip:

She was prescribed Secale corr 30 tds for 3 days followed by placebo on
19-5-15.
Her daughter-in-law brought her again on 26-5-15. The pain in abdomen
and headache persisted, however, she could sleep better and weeping had
reduced. Sensation of heat, however, persisted.
The lady visited the dispensary by herself on 2-6-15 saying that her pains
and heat had reduced. Since she was cheerful and smiling, she was
continued on placebo. Her improvement with homoeopathic treatment
alone, in a short span of 2 weeks, may be seen in the following video clip:

Case no 3: Bells Palsy

Mr MA, 38 years, DGHD Aali village OPD regn no 1729, was first seen on
11-4-15 for Right sided Bells Palsy. He was apparently fine when he went
off to sleep the previous night, and on waking up in the morning, he felt
the water drooling out of mouth and inability to close right eye. His clinical
condition, at the time of first consultation, may be seen in the following
video clip:

He was prescribed Causticum 200, thrice daily for three days followed by
placebo and asked to report in a week. Simultaneously, he was advised
care for eyes and facial muscle exercises.
He reported on 18-4-15 with more than 50% improvement in swallowing
liquids and complete ability to close right eye, though strength was
incomplete. Placebo was continued for another week.
On 25-4-15, he reported with complete recovery, without any further
repetition of medicine. His complete recovery, in a short span of 2 weeks,
under homoeopathic treatment alone, may be seen in the following video
clip:

Case no 4: Rheumatoid arthritis
Ms HS, 60 years old, DGHD Aali village regn no 2854 (23-8-14) and DGHD
WUS Health Centre regn no 3413 (12-9-14), consulted us for rheumatoid
arthritis, which had afflicted nearly all of her joints over last 10 years. Her
day-to-day activities were greatly hampered and productivity declined.
The pains and stiffness rendered her life miserable. She was also a
diagnosed case of hypothyroidism and lumbar spondylosis. Moreover, she
had recurrent episodes of sore throat and fever, which were triggered by
any sweet or cold item in diet.
Her past history revealed worm infestations nearly 20 years earlier and
cholecystectomy 2 years back.
Her bowel movements were inadequate and any delay in meal timings
would trigger flatulence. Though her episodes of sore throat were
triggered by sweets, she still harbored strong liking for them.
On 23rd August, she was prescribed a dose each of Spongia tosta
30/200/1000, to be taken on consecutive mornings, on an empty
stomach. This was followed by placebo.
She felt a gradual relief in complaints over next few weeks and she passed
her winters comfortably. In her previous years winters had always been
extremely difficult.
She continues to do well on homoeopathic medicine alone and has not
required any further repetition of remedy. Her serological markers
repeated since the time of first consultation are as under:

Serology
Hemoglobin
ESR
RA factor
TSH

The copy of her OPD slip at DGHD is attached below, which shows the
date-wise follow up of the patient and the readings.

Discussion and conclusion

As the title suggests, the few clinical cases depicted above, highlight the
verity of this so called alternative system of medicine, homoeopathy. It is
not too late to accept that the hubris of great scientific achievements in
modern medicine have submerged its art and spiraled its costs way
beyond the reach of needy, whether from a developing country or and
advanced nation. This is where homoeopathic physician, well versed with
science and art of healing, can take the path ahead!
And for those who are well versed with the homoeopathic philosophy,
most notably, Organon, and the homoeopathic materia medica, it is not
difficult to understanding the rationale behind the choice of remedy, in all

of the above-mentioned cases. For the others, it may be necessary to

delve into the books again!
