squareinch=thousandsofksi)orGPa(gigapascal).

Themostcommonwayofdepictingtherelationbetweenstressandstrainis
throughaSTRESSSTRAINCURVE.Stressstraincurvesareobtained
experimentallyandprovideusefulmaterialpropertiessuchasYoung's

performedatdifferentstressamplitudesa,andthe
numberofcyclestofailureisrecorded,Nf.The
points(NF,sa)areplottedandalinefitted.Variables
Sf'andbaredeterminedfromthecurvefit.
Thefatiguestrengthofamaterialisthevalueofthe
stressamplitudeforagivenvalueofNfcanbe
