EDUC 767 CBT: HOW TO USE SPICES AYURVEDICALLY

Purpose of the Course The purpose of this course is to teach the Ayurvedic Principles of spicing
food.
Audience Description

This course will be uploaded as part of a bigger unit on Cooking in our


family website. The audience comprises current adult family members and
future family members and friends who either know how to cook or are still
learning; but who

Love Indian food


Are interested in cooking healthier food
Want to know how to spice food using the balancing Principles of
Ayurved

Would like to use the Principles of Ayurveda to plan and create


menus.

Major Course
Terminal Objective 1: After watching a short video, the learner will be able
Objectives (Terminal) to define the term Ayurved and the three Doshas of Ayurved Vata,
Pitta and Kapha.
Terminal Objective 2: After taking the Dosha quiz online, the learner will
be able to analyze their individual Dosha.
Terminal Objective 3: After watching a short video, the learner will be able
to choose the spices most suited to their Dosha.
Terminal Objective 4: After watching a short video, the learner will be able
to plan a balanced Ayurvedic dinner menu, where the term balanced refers
to the balance between the Doshas.

Course Enabling
Objectives

1.1: Define the terms Ayurved and Dosha.


1.2: Research the best definition for Vata, Pitta and Kapha by visiting the
suggested websites.
1.3: List the six tastes as defined by Ayurved.
2.1: State the main characteristics of your individual Dosha.
3.1: List the most commonly used spices in Indian Ayurvedic cooking.
3.2: Describe the qualities of each spice.
3.3: Determine which spices are best for your individual Dosha.
4.1: Describe the essential categories in an Ayurvedic menu.
4.2: List the items on your menu by picking from each category.
4.3: Confirm you have picked all six tastes to create a balanced menu by
labeling the items in your menu according to predominant taste.
4.4: Create a Grocery Shopping List based on the menu you created.
4.4: Choose the ingredients required to create the perfectly balanced curry in
an Ayurvedic menu.

Objective

4. 4: The learner will be able to choose the ingredients required to create the
perfectly balanced curry in an Ayurvedic menu.
This is the entre for the dinner menu.

There will be an assessment at the end of the Course in the form of a quiz
with built-in feedback. This assessment is not graded. The feedback will
guide the learner as to their progress.

508 Accommodations

The 508 accommodations below have been quoted from


http://webaim.org/standards/508/checklist and shall be put in place in the
project.
Broadly speaking, a combination of video and captioning; image and text
shall be used throughout. Consistency will be kept in mind; and color coding
will not be the only means of conveying information.
(a) A text equivalent for every non-text element shall be provided.
(i) Frames shall be titled with text that facilitates frame
identification and navigation.
m) When a web page requires that an applet, plug-in or other
application be present on the client system to interpret page content,
the page must provide a link to a plug-in or applet
(o) A method shall be provided that permits users to skip repetitive

Course Structure
Description

This Course has four Modules one per Terminal Objective. Each Enabling
Objective is a separate lesson.

Seat Time of Course

The seat time of each Terminal Objective is estimated to be at least 15


minutes. The seat time of the Course is estimated to be at least one hour.
This Course is self-paced. Each learner may learn as much or as little as they
would like at one time. Each learner may take the Course as many times as
they would like.

Seat Time of RLO

The seat time for the RLO is expected to be no longer than 20 minutes.

Task Analysis:
4. 4: The learner will be able to list the ingredients required to create the
perfectly balanced curry in an Ayurvedic menu.
To list the ingredients:
1. List all ingredients used in Indian curry.
2. Link to the Dosha quiz to determine individual Dosha.
(a) Review all popular spices used in Curries.
(i) Learn the characteristics of each spice.
(b) Choose spices favorable to your specific Dosha, based
on the spice characteristics.
3. List the appropriate ingredients, including spices, for a curry
cooked to balance the following:
(a) Vata Dosha
(b) Pitta Dosha
(c) Kapha Dosha

Development Tools

Authoring - I plan to use Articulate Storyline 2 as my primary authoring tool


for this RLO.
Audio - I will not be using any audio tools to develop audio at this time. I do
plan to use a YouTube video, provided I can find an appropriate one.
Graphic Havent really explored this at all at this point. There will be a
learning curve as I havent used any of the Graphic tools before. I may only
use .jpg and .png free images available on the internet because of time
limitations.
Storyboarding - My storyboarding tool is a .PPT template that was provided
in Module 5 of this course.

Ownership

Monica Kar will develop the initial course; and Monica Kar will maintain
the course. This course is developed for personal use and for distribution at
the discretion of the developer.

Development Time

The development time for the entire Course will be approximately three
months.
The development time for the RLO will be approximately eight weeks.

Support requirements Resources Required: Textbooks on Ayurvedic cooking, YouTube videos,


Information from online websites of SMEs in Ayurved. The online quiz
mentioned in T.O.2 will be a link to the free online quiz offered by SME
Deepak Chopra. If developing a video for instruction, online help from an
online video creator software.
