Phonics Daisy

This week in phonics we are going to

continue to focus on the short e sound
of unit 3 in our Oxford Phonics World
books. During week 5 I introduced the
short e sounds of 'e', and 'et'. During
week 6 we will start by reviewing the
sounds/words from the previous week
and then shift to the 'en' and 'ed'
sounds. We will play games focusing
on the children's reading, writing,
speaking and listening, and we will
work up to the end of unit 3 in our
Oxford Phonics World 2 workbooks.
Toward the end of the week we will go
over a comprehensive review of
everything we have learned so far in
phonics.

Town and country (2)

Activity Time

This week we are going to continue to practise the vocabulary and focus more on using full sentences to talk
about the topic.
Activities and Games:
We are going to play splat with the flashcards placed on the floor and the students race to be the first to hit the
correct card called out by the teacher.
We will play spin the bottle. The 2 students which the bottle lands on must stand up and ask each other a
question using the sentences and answers on the board i.e. Can you see farm animals in the country? Yes,
I can see farm annals in the country.
We will also play some rounds of hangman to reinforce spelling of the vocabulary and prepare the students for
an upcoming spelling test.
This week we will do a spelling test from this unit, town and country. The following words have been revised
by the students: milk, cow, pig, ATM, bus, town, country, mouse. I will give the students some hints on the
board.
Worksheets:
We are going to do some worksheets where the students have to identify which food comes from the country
and which food comes from the town. Another worksheet involves looking at a series of pictures and writing
underneath each one either town or country. Another worksheet is a word search that contains town or
country items. The students have to find each word, this is good for testing their reading skills.
Crafts:
This week we are going to make an egg basket which involves decorating a template, cutting it out and gluing
it together. We are also going to make a chicken from a template and a toilet paper roll.
