5. Micromouse Competition
About
Micromouse is an autonomous self-contained machine designed to get to the center of a maze in shortest possible time.
The mouse must find their way from a predetermined starting position to the central of the maze unaided. The mouse will
need to keep track of where it is, discover walls as it explores, map out the maze and detect when it has reached the goal.
A micromouse comprises of motors to move it, a steering system and turning method, sensors to detect the presence or
absence of maze walls, sensors or control logic to oversee the action of the rest. The micromouse competition has been
running since the late 1970s around the world.
ROBOT SPECIFICATION:
1. Maximum length and width of the robot can be 20cm x 20cm. However, there are no restrictions on height. Maximum
weight can be 2Kg.
2. The robot has to be self-contained and should not have any kind of wireless communication module (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi,
RF etc.). If found, team will be disqualified.
3. The robot may use any type of programmer, development board or readymade sensor but not a ready-made chassis.
4. The robot must have an on-board power supply, wired ac/dc adapters are not allowed.
5. Voltage between any two points of the robot must not exceed 15 volt.
6. The robot must have a single kill switch to turn off the power if necessary.
7. The robot should not damage the arena in any way. It should not put any mark on the arena. Doing so will result in
immediate disqualification.
8. The robot has to be started using a single switch/button. If theres multiple buttons/switches, team have to explain
their purpose before the competition. Team will be disqualified if any hard coding is found.
9. The robot shall not leave any part of its body behind while negotiating the maze.

16
ARENA SPECIFICATION:
1. The arena is made of 7 X 7 square units. Each square unit is 25cm X 25cm in length and width respectively (Figure 2).
There are 4 posts at each corner of a square unit known as Lattice point.
2. As theres no line on the floor to denote a square unit, a square unit can only be recognized by the 4 lattice points at
four corners of it. The lattice points are of 8cm height and 1cm X 1cm area (Figure 5).
3. Lattice points are fixed to the surface. There are walls that can be put between two lattice points. Walls and lattice
points are designed in such a way that walls can slide between two lattice points. Walls are of 8cm height and 1cm
thickness (Figure 4).
4. Adjacent square units will have common lattice points and common walls.
5. There will always be fixed walls between all outer most lattice points. Moreover, the center square unit of the maze
(row 4, column 4) will always have walls on three sides letting only one entrance to it (Figure 1).
6. Changeable walls will be placed between the remaining lattice points to create a maze. Pattern of the maze can be
changed by changing the wall positions. The maze is so constituted that there is at least one wall connected to each
lattice point. An example of the maze after placing all the walls are shown in figure 3.
7. The floor will have Black color. Walls and Lattice points will be of White color on all sides except Red color on top.

GAMEPLAY:
1. The task is to find the center square unit at row 4 and column 4 known as Goal in shortest possible time. Task is
comprised of two parts: exploring the maze and fast run.
2. The robot will be placed in any of the four corners of the arena first known as starting square. The starting square will
have three walls around it. There will be multiple paths to go from the starting square to the Goal. Only one of them is the
shortest possible path.
3. First, the robot starts moving from the starting square and begins exploring the maze. The robot has to try to reach the
Goal as fast as possible. The maze will be designed in such a way that a wall following robot (left or right), that cannot
keep track of its position within the maze, can never reach the Goal.
4. Now, after reaching the Goal, the robot can get back to the starting square. This time the robot may go to unexplored
square units of the maze to check for possibilities of better paths from the staring square to the Goal. After returning to
the starting square, the robot has to stop for at least 3 seconds to declare that it has finished exploring the maze.
5. Time for exploring the maze is maximum 6 minutes. This includes going to the Goal and returning to the starting
square.
6. Now, the robot has to go to the Goal using the shortest possible path (fast run). Maximum time allocated for fast run is
3 minutes.
7. If the robot goes to the Goal not using the shortest possible path in fast run, there will be no penalty. However, team
will get bonus points if the robot uses the shortest possible path.
8. If a robot cannot complete exploring the maze within the 6 minute time limit, corresponding team will be disqualified.
Same goes for the fast run.
RESTARTS:
1. If the robot collides with the wall, it has to take a restart. Additionally, a team can call for restarts any time they want.
Maximum number of restarts is 5.
IEISB15
ieisb.esab.org.bd
19
2. In case of any restart, the robot will be placed at the starting square. If restart is taken within the maze exploring time
(before fast run), the robot has to start exploring the maze from the beginning. If restart if taken within the fast run, the
robot only has to go for the fast run again.
3. The timer wont stop in case of any restart.
POINTS DISTRIBUTION:
Total Points= (360 -T1) + (180 -T2) - (50R) + S + F
T1= Time taken in seconds for exploring the maze. It includes going to the Goal, exploring all the squares and returning to
the starting square.
T2= Time taken in seconds for fast run
R= Number of restarts
S= Bonus 100 points for taking shortest possible path in fast run
F= Bonus 100 points for completing all the tasks successfully

8. IC Design Contest
Problem Statement:
Imagine you are signing up for a mail account. You just fill out a form, which contains your entire name, address, birth date
and many other trivial details about you. Of course, you all have faced the classic problem of choosing your user name.
Whatever simple user id you give, it will tell NOT AVAILABLE. After adding some numbers & meaningless letters, you
finally get to create your mail account. Then you can log into your mail account with your user id & password. If any of them
not matches, it will simply tell you NOT MATCHED.
We would like you to design a very simple database storage system, which will operate in two modes SIGN UP & SIGN IN.
In SIGN UP mode, it will take user id as input and it will search in its memory whether the user ID exists or not. If it exists,
it will flag a signal, which indicates NOT AVAILABLE. If it does not exist, it will flag another signal, which indicates
AVAILABLE and prompts for password. After the password is given, it will confirm that you have been signed up.
In SIGN IN mode, it will take used id & password as input. Then it will search its memory to check whether the user id &
password matches or not. If matches, it will flag a signal indicating LOGGED IN and if it does not, it will flag another signal
indicating, NOT MATCHED.
For simplicity, we propose to confine the USER ID in three letters (A, B & C) & the password in three digits (1, 2 and 3). So
user ID can be ABC, ACB, BCA etc & password can be 123 ,231, 213 etc .We would like you to simulate the system in PROTEUS
or DHCS & design the layout of the system in MicroWind. You must use 90nm rule file for the design. There is no limit for
chip area but we would appreciate the design if it is optimized with respect to space & power. You can import the libraries
of the memory or any other cell from anywhere or design your own ones. Please provide specific details of your design
along with the design. Please send us the simulation & layout files within 07 June, 2015.
