Graduate Joseph Semrad was presented with

the 2015 Hamilton High School Distinguished
Alumnus Award at the schools June 13 graduation
ceremonies. A 2004 graduate, Semrad works for
the U.S. Department of State where he has served
tours in Leipzig, Germany, Bangkok, Thailand and
more recently in Washington, D.C. As a protocol
officer in the Office of the Chief of Protocol,
Semrad provides operational, logistical and cultural support to the president, vice president and secretary of state in conjunction with their travel
abroad and meetings with foreign dignitaries.
While a student at Hamilton, Semrad spent his
senior year abroad in Germany as recipient of the
Congress-Bundestag Exchange Scholarship.
Following high school, he received his bachelors
degree in political science and German linguistics
from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. During
his undergraduate studies, he returned to
Germany for a second year to study at the Freie
Universitt in Berlin while working as a legislative
assistant for a member of the German Parliament.
After graduation, Semrad joined the Peace Corps
where he served for two years in rural Ukraine
teaching middle and high school English. He later
went on to receive his masters degree in public
administration from American University in
Washington, D.C.

This gentle love bug is all you could ask for and
more! Sadi was transferred from MADACC
(Milwaukee Animal Control) due to lack of
space. She has had us all smitten from the
moment she walked through our doors. She
does have several mammary masses, but WCHS had several removed
and tested. Thankfully they are benign, so she has now been cleared
for adoption!! With her stellar, beautiful big smile, and very tolerant
personality we are all so happy that Sadi can finally find a home to call
her own. She would do well in virtually any Beagle loving household.

Assembler Salvation Army
Volunteers are needed June 15 through
August 21, 2015 to assist with the assembly
of bag lunches for the Feed the Kids program. Duties include making sandwiches,

Volunteers will then ride along with our staff
or follow in their own vehicle to Sentinel
Park to help distribute lunches. This is a
great opportunity for families and small
groups! Days are Monday-Friday, 9am1pm. Must be able to stand for long peri-

week at Riveredge Nature Center.

RamblingThursday, June 25, 9:30 to 11:30
a.m. Join a naturalist and step into the
Milwaukee River. Group will explore this wonderful, watery, world and seek out the creatures
that call the river home. Bring wading shoes (old

Part of the FAB 40 Super Steel makes industry list for third consecutive year
Behind a recent national honor for Super Steel is the
work that made that honor possible.
The Milwaukee-based company, located at 7900 W.
Tower Ave , was listed at number 8 on the Fabricator FAB 40
list. It is the third year in a row the company has made the
list.
Heather Krugler, a spokesperson for the company, said
the honor "validates the work we do each day. Beyond our
own sales and marketing efforts, Super Steel has gained the
attention of others who view and rate the best companies in
our industry. One of Super Steels goals is certainly to
remain on the 'Fab 40' list, as well as to increase our ranking on the list."
Krugler noted that the FAB 40 honor is just one of several recent recognitions the company has received. Super
Steel has also been selected for the Business Times "Best in
Business" honor. Other recognitions included being listed on
the "Wisconsin 75," the Metropolitan Milwaukee
Association of Commerce-COSBE "Future 50, " and Inc.
Magazines 500/5,000.
Super Steel was named the Granville-Brown Deer
Manufacturer of the Year in 2013, was nominated in 2014
for Wisconsin Family Business of the Year and was also a
nominee for Wisconsin Manufacturer of the Year.
Super Steel works with clients seeking large metal fabrications, with painting and probable complex electrical,

Two Hamilton High School students,
Dominic Pino and Andrew Tai, placed
seventh of 90 teams at the 2015 Junior
Varsity National History Bowl in
Washington, D.C. A contribution from the
Hamilton Education Foundation helped
fund the students travel expenses.
In qualifying for national competition,
the students won the Wisconsin State
Junior Varsity and Varsity Championship.
They also were junior varsity champions
for Northern Illinois and came in second

in the Illinois State Junior Varsity
Championship.
The National History Bee and Bowl
strives to promote history education
throughout the U.S. and around the
world. The fifth annual national championships included the National History
Bowl, National History Bee and U.S.
History Bee.
A random sample of 300 Hamilton

School District residents will be called in
June as part of a community survey. The
survey is a follow-up to ones conducted
previously in the district. The district conducts the survey to:learn the expectations
and priorities the community has for its
schools; understand community sentiment
on critical school issues; verify perceptions
of satisfaction with the districts overall performance; and evaluate and plan communication.
School officials are asking community members for their cooperation if they
are contacted.
Its important to learn the perceptions of all members in our community
including those who do and do not have
children enrolled in our schools, Public
Information Coordinator Denise Dorn
Lindberg said. When contacted by one
of the callers, we encourage residents to
participate in the survey.
Mini Mudder fundraising event

set for June 28
Area residents are invited to run for
fun and run for funds in the inaugural
U.S. Bank Mini Mudder on June 28 at
the Germantown High School. All proceeds from the Mini Mudder will help
support the Germantown Community
Scholarship Funds Teacher Grant
Awards program to further benefit
Germantown area students.
The Mini Mudder is an obstacle race
course designed for all age groups from

kindergarten through high school aged
students, as well as families and adults.
The Mini Mudder fun run starts at noon
with a short course for grades K-3, followed by a longer course race for children grade 4-adult.

SOFTBALL TEAM GOES TO STATE

The Germantown girls softball team advanced to the state tournament this year,
losing to DeForest in the Division I quarterfinal 5-4. Germantown finished the season
with a 23-6 record.
It was the fourth straight year Germantown appeared in the state tournament
and the sixth overall. Kurt Raguse and Amy Barbiaux are the co-coaches of the
Germantown team.

Against the odds: Falls girls soccer upsets Homestead to qualify for state

MANAGING EDITOR
The Menomonee Falls girls soccer
team topped Homestead 2-1 in overtime in
a sectional final at Brookfield Central June
13. In the process, the team continued a
postseason run that has taken the Indians
from fifth place in the Greater Metro
Conference to state tournament qualifier.
"In the regular season, we were a little
off but we came into the tournament saying we were going to change it and we're
going to come back. We called it our
'path of revenge,'" forward Kylie Sprecher
said. "We just wanted to keep going as
far as we can."
The postseason run included wins over
Homestead and Hamilton, both of whom
defeated Menomonee Falls during the regular season.
"It's just amazing, it's so surreal,"
added Maggie Greifenkamp. "We couldn't ask for anything more."
The day was all the more special for
Greifenkamp and the six other seniors on
the team, who graduated from
Menomonee Falls during a ceremony
which started at 4 p.m. and was finishing
up at just before 6 p.m. The seniors on the
team left the ceremony toward the end to

Menomonee Falls got on the board
first as Sprecher converted an assist from
Maggie Greifenkamp inside the
Highlanders penalty box to give
Menomonee Falls a 1-0 lead at the 42nd

minute. With that goal, Sprecher set the
record for most goals in a season which
had been set the year before by Rachel
Clayton.
During the second half, Menomonee
Falls continued to press, as Sprecher made
several runs, with Menomonee Falls getting two shots on goal near the 79th
minute.
While Menomonee Falls attempted to
keep the ball out of their side of the field in
the closing minutes of the game,
Homestead pressed and Jordan Ellerbrock
converted an assist from Coco Wiencek
with less than two minutes remaining.
But Menomonee Falls scored less than
a minute into the first overtime, as
Sprecher sprinted toward the Homestead
goal. The ensuing shot deflected off another Menomonee Falls player before it was
deflected into the net by a Homestead
defender.
Menomonee Falls then held the lead
for the next 19 minutes to earn its first trip
to the state tournament.
For Menomonee Falls Coach Scott
Stein, it is the second improbable postseason run in less than a year, as Stein
coached the boys team to a runner-up finish in the state tournament in the fall. This
year's girls team had only three players
playing in the same position as last year.

Stein said he took the seniors on the
girls team aside and mentioned that
expectations for the boys team weren't
high either heading into their season.
"Why can't we do it, and they did,"
Stein said.
Menomonee Falls is scheduled to play
D.C. Everest, the top ranked team in the
state, at 7 p.m. June 19 at the Uihlein
Soccer Park in Milwaukee.
