linesinpresentingthedifferentdefinitions:"Inseekingtodefinetheword'church'today,
we find three basic definitions of the term. I choose to call them the'Catholic

definitions:

RomanCatholicDefinition.
The definition of the Roman Catholic Church is that the church is
bothvisibleanduniversal.Indeedtheword'catholic'means'universal.'Theyteachthatthe

this purpose, I quote...Dr. RoyBeamon,Professor of Languages and Biblical

Notethenthatthedefinitionoftheword'church'asusedintheNewTestamentinvolves

VI.Logically
Ithasbeensaidthat,theproblemwithcommonsenseisthatitisnotverycommon.The
logic and reasoning of the Bible isso simple that anyone who possesses the precious
quality called common sense, will doubtless grasp its interpretations. More than any
human,thebestinterpreteroftheBibleistheBIBLE,itself.

WehaveseenthroughoutthisbookthattheGreekwordforchurchisEkklesia.Andthat
this word applies to a called out assembly or group of people, who gather in
aspecificplaceatspecificperiodsandforspecificpurposes,onlyandalways.AlsoChrist
used this word in reference to HIS CHURCH. This church was unlike the Old
TestamentIsraeland also the Greek civil or legislative assembly. The wordEkklesiais

2)Specifically/Particularly
3)Futuristically/Prospectively.

4)Thechurch,Matthew5:1415
Jesus Christ compared His church to a candlestick and a LIGHT. In keeping with its
numerical significance, the Lord Jesus Christ uttered the wordEkklessia, from His
ownlipsin exactly 22 verses. Each one of these verses, when
examinedcontextually,revealtousthatChristwasspeakingstrictlyofanddirectlytoHis

Ourfourthchapter,"Practically",listedforussomeofthedivinedutiesthatweregivento

Finally,inthechapter,"Logically"wesawthesimplicityofthewordchurchasusedin
theBible. This term was used in the Bible in three different senses:
1)Abstractly/Generically,2)Particularly/Specificallyand3)Future/Prospectively.

mentionedAbstractly/Generically.In 1verse it is spoken of as being yet in
theFuture/Prospectively.Buttheremaining100verses,beyondashadowofadoubt,apply
