Move to Amend Interfaith Caucus

Corporate Violations of 10 Commandments

(DRAFT Document in Development)
The Move to Amend Interfaith Caucus (MTA-IFC) in opposition to corporate personhood has revealed
how corporate personhood sanctions behavior by artificial entities (corporations usually) against living
people that would never be tolerated as behavior by ordinary people without criminal and severe moral
and ethical reprimand. These observations are rooted in violations of the 10 Commandments the
touchstone for Western Judeo-Christian values. Specifically the actions legally sanctioned for
corporations by US courts (or simply ignored) violate the following key Commandments. Abhorrent
behavior is made acceptable.
We recognize that each Faith or Ethical Community has its own stated beliefs, principles, doctrine,
values, etc. If you find that those held sacred or paramount by your community are being violated by
corporate actions, please help us by posting to the Move to Amend Interfaith Caucus Facebook
page, or by sending to MTA-IFC Moderator (see foot of this document).
These Commandments are:
1st Thou shall have no other gods before me: In 1919 (Dodge v. Ford Motor Company) the
Michigan Supreme Court ruled that: A business corporation is organized and carried on primarily
for the profit of the stockholders. Corporations should hold money/profit to be above all else.
4th Remember the Sabbath Day to keep it holy: Throughout history many nations have recognized
this commandment by keeping their businesses closed on the Sabbath. Corporate and consumer
pressure has eliminated this practice throughout the United States.
6th - Thou shall not kill: Large companies are implicated in killings in a number of countries where
corruption of local officials leads to something close to genocide. Most egregious example may be the
killings in Nigeria in the interest of U.S. oil companies trying to eliminate opposition to their extraction
activities. There are numerous other examples e.g., Chevron, Shell in Ecuador, the usurpation of
water rights is South America, the upcoming Transpacific Partnership and more.

8th - Thou shall not steal: Eliminated regulations lead to we the taxpayers bailing out financial
institutions that create irresponsible investment tools that bankrupt the poor or middle class, and enrich
themselves.
9th - Thou shall not bear false witness (lie): Corporations can legally lie about their products and when
and what they can or cant do legally, corporate personhood changes the regulations so that
corporations can lie and mislead under the false protection of Free Speech.
10th - Thou shall not covet (neighbors house, wife, or possessions): Advocating unrestrained
acquisition (Greed is Good). Anything and everything in the pursuit of material gain (shareholder
profit maximization).
