NICHOLS CANYON, who arrives on the back of an impressive all-the-way success in the Deloitte. A
smart stayer on the Flat, he has made a seamless transition to this code, particularly impressing with
his jumping at Leopardstown last time. Having proven his agility on the undulations of Goodwood on
the level, the idiosyncratic nature of this track won't pose any issues and he can earn his third top-level
success. Challow Hurdle winner Parlour Games has taken his form to a new level this winter and rates
the greatest danger. Outlander and Windsor Park have proven themselves classy performers this
season and are likely to make the frame, while Beast Of Burden and Ordo Ab Chao were impressive
for different reasons last time and enter calculations for each-way purposes.

ATR VERDICT: Kings Palace has bounced back from a crashing fall in last season's Albert Bartlett
with three impressive chase victories, the first two coming here. He clearly loves the undulations of
Prestbury Park and is usually a very accurate jumper, so seems certain to give it a good go from the
front end, but don't be surprised to see DON POLI pass him up the famous hill. The six-year-old is
nothing flashy in terms of looks and the way he travels through his races, but he has the wonderful
knack of winning, and that is key. Although scrubbed along from some way out in last season's Martin
Pipe, he was well on top at the finish of that extended 2m4f contest and has since developed into a
top-class staying chaser. The form of his Topaz victory in December is rock-solid, with the runner-up
Apache Stronghold subsequently winning a Grade 1, and he can outstay his rivals here on the way to
another Festival victory for Willie Mullins. The Young Master has improved beyond all recognition this
season and he and Southfield Theatre will have plenty of their own supporters. Wounded Warrior and
Adriana Des Mottes could outrun their prices.
Top Tip: DON POLI

ATR VERDICT: In one of the most competitive handicaps of the Festival, a tentative vote goes the
way of HAMMERSLY LAKE. Nicky Henderson's charge ran too badly to be true when fading right out
of contention at Kempton but is better judged on his earlier efforts this season, which include a nearmiss over the extended 2m here and a fine second to Silsol at Newbury. There could be improvement
to come now stepped in trip, a comment that is also applicable to Baradari. Venetia Williams' charge
landed a Grade 2 from Lyvius at Ascot and has some solid Festival form having finished a staying-on
fifth in last year's Fred Winter. Is is interesting that AP McCoy has overlooked JP McManus' pair of
runners in order to ride Goodwood Mirage, though he needs to improve plenty for this step up in trip if
he is to leave behind a Betfair Hurdle tumble. Activial finished third in that Newbury race and could
relish this stiffer test, while any money for Aux Ptits Soins, a dual hurdles winner in France now
debuting for Paul Nicholls, or Taglietelle, who represents 2011-winning handler Gordon Elliott, would
be notable.

ATR VERDICT: The return of Sprinter Sacre to the centre stage will rightfully make this one of the
most anticipated races of the week. Nicky Henderson's star memorably landed this prize two years ago
with a breathtaking display and he probably doesn't need to return to that level to finish on the
premises. His heart problems and a defeat on his reappearance at Ascot create enough doubt, though,
and it might be best to look elsewhere at the forecast prices. Dodging Bullets claimed the scalp of
Sprinter Sacre at Ascot and he appears to be getting better with each outing, which can also be said of
his stablemate Mr Mole. However, the suspicion is that Paul Nicholls' pair might just fall short at this
level. Sire De Grugy was dominant in this division last term and has an excellent chance of retaining
his crown, but an interrupted build-up to this race looks far from ideal, especially considering the
apparent strength in depth he faces. CHAMPAGNE FEVER hasn't enjoyed a perfect run in his second
season chasing, but he did travel well for a long way in the King George when failing to stay, and
bounced back with a confidence-boosting success at Gowran Park. His Festival record speaks for itself
and he is given a tentative vote in a vintage renewal.

close in this race last year and scored by 12 lengths for a first victory over C&D at the International
meeting. Quantitativeeasing gave chase in vein on that occasion but was pretty lacklustre at
Punchestown and has a bit of a point to prove now. Duke Of Lucca also took part in that event but
unseated his rider, although he has more to offer in this sphere. Uncle Junior and Sire Collonges had
the selection back in fourth when taking the minor honours in the cross country race at the Open
meeting and there is a suspicion that the latter might have more to offer in blinkers. The French raider
Toutancarmont is the joker in the pack because he has won the same race twice over a similar trip at
Fontainebleau and any market support would push him up the pecking order.

tentative nod. He bounced back to something like his best at Ascot last time, chasing home a
potentially high-class sort, and he has already shown a liking for this venue when gamely denying one
of the leading fancies for the Triumph Hurdle here in November. The forecast ground conditions are in
his favour and none of his rivals can claim to have achieved anything like the level he has reached
already. Dangers abound, though, and Hostile Fire is feared most on the back of his ready Fairyhouse
success. Arabian Revolution sports the first-time blinkers and seems sure to play a part. Zarib,
Unanimite, All Yours and Gwencily Berbas are all on the up and take high rank on the shortlist.

ATR VERDICT: A fiercely competitive renewal, with eight-time winning trainer Willie Mullins sending
seven previous scorers to post. Impressive Naas winner Pylonthepressure has been tipped up at a
number of preview nights in recent weeks, while Stone Hard couldn't have won any easier at Gowran
Park. The one who excites most, and looks best equipped for this particular contest, is BORDINI. The
Martaline gelding has long been held in high regard by those in the know at Closutton and he built on
an easy Punchestown victory when gamely winning a Listed event at Navan. The most positive aspect
of that latest success was the way he battled on up the stiff uphill finish once his rivals came to him,
eventually running out a decisive winner. The demands of this track should play to his strengths and he
is seemingly the choice of Patrick Mullins, so everything points to a huge run. General Principle won in
a hack canter on his introduction at Punchestown and he could be anything, with Moon Racer, Vigil,
Wait For Me and Supasundae others to consider.
Top Tip: BORDINI
Watch out for: STONE HARD
