Before starting the project, students
took a trip to the site they would be reconstructing, 102 South Lafayette Street.
From photographing to measuring, veryone went straight to work upon arrival.
Together, the teams gathered information
in order to get an idea of what was soon
in store.

our concept
Inspired by the arts culture of Starkville, MS, The Foundry
acts as a host and launch pad for founding companies who
specialize in handcrafted goods. The Foundry provides
a raw canvas in which local small business owners are
invited to come launch the business, create a client
base, and learn how to succeed through experience and
mentorships. The Foundrys rustic materials, yet modern
lines express the culture of Starkville by combining both
the art community and entrepreneurs who wish to create
a space that welcomes both artistic and interesting. With
local artists wanting to grow their business, the Foundry
offers a unique space to express a companys identity,
collaborate with other artists, and expand the company to
new horizons.

We started off using carpet and hard wood as the flooring. As the design
developed we decided that both carpet and hard wood was not aesthetically pleasing and would wear down too fast. Because of this, we
decided to go with a more economical approach, stained concrete.

When creating The Foundry, we wanted
the outside to grab everyones attention
in a simple, yet effective manor. We accomplished this by exhibiting a wood facade accented with both brick and aluminum.For the interior design, we decided
to imitate the facade and help carry the
simple and clean design throughout the
space. We created an open floor plan
that is made up of industrial and reclaimed materials.

Branding
After trial and error, we finally chose a
logo that helped represent our company
in the best way. Clean and simple, our
logo can be recognized and remembered in almost any setting.
