MINOR IN ECONOMICS PROGRAM


INTRODUCTION
The Minor in Economics is for students who are
interested in acquiring basic facility in economic
theory. It provides an economic framework to
complement the students major field of
specialization, allowing him/her to have greater
appreciation of current social and economic
concerns. The minor requires 4-core and major
courses (12 units) plus 5 electives (15 units) in
economics for Management Engineering students
and for Non-Management Engineering students, 4core and major courses (12 units) plus 2 electives
(6 units).
I. Basic Course: Core Curriculum Subject
(1 course: 3 units)
1. Ec 102 Basic Economics, Taxation and
Agrarian Reform
II. Major Course: (3 courses: 9 units)
2. Ec 111 - Intermediate Microeconomics
3. Ec 112 - Intermediate Macroeconomics
4. Ec 121 - Development Economics or
Ec 122 - International Economics
III. Elective: (5 courses: 15 units)
For Management Engineering students
Any five(5) from the following courses:
A course not taken in II.4 above
Ec 113 Economics of Money and Banking
Ec 114 International Finance
Ec 115 Introduction to Mathematical Economics

To be admitted to the Minor Program, students


must have obtained a minimum grade of C in
Ec 102 and an unweighted minimum average of
1.75 in all math courses taken at the time of
application. Students must maintain an unweighted
minimum average of C in all the required courses.
COMPLETION
Students will receive a certificate upon completion
of the required economic courses. The Department
of Economics provides the Office of the Registrar a
list of names who have completed the Program. The
students Transcript of Records will indicate Minor
in Economics in addition to his/her major field of
specialization.

ELIGIBILITY AND APPLICATION


The Minor is open to all undergraduate students at
the Loyola Schools, Ateneo de Manila University,
except those pursuing the A.B. Economics (Honors
and Standard) and A.B. Management Economics,
and students with double-major status in the
Department of Economics.
Students interested in pursuing the Minor have to
send an application letter to the Department of
Economics,
endorsed by their home department
and attached copy of grades. Likewise, students
admitted to the Minor program must file a load
revision form to be endorsed by the department
chair of their home department and approved by
the department chair of economics. Once admitted,
students may take the required courses beginning
in the next immediate semester. In certain cases, it
may be necessary that students in the Minor in
Economics take the required courses as overload
subjects.
