Network Server
Network/Client

Recommended System Requirements:

Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, or Windows 2000
Recommended: 64 Mb RAM
Recommended: 200 Mhz Pentium II processor
Installation space requirements are roughly 30 Mb of disk space
Super VGA graphics board, 800 x 600 resolution or better
On Windows 95 the DCOM95 Operating System Patch is required, and is included as part
of the COMPASS installation
Windows NT installations: NT 4.0 Operating System, Service Pack 3 (or above) is

Database Issues
COMPASS 2000.0 has been tested on the following databases:
Sybase SQL Anywhere Single User (v5.5.04)
Sybase SQL Anywhere Multi User (v5.5.04)
Oracle 8.3.

COMPASS 2000.0 is NOT compatible with any COMPASS database 1998.2 or earlier. An
upgrade is required. Transfer files from older versions will also not be compatible.
COMPASS 2000.0 does not require the Intersolv ODBC drivers to access an Oracle database. The
Oracle ODBC drivers (available as a free download from www.oracle.com) can be used instead.
Since COMPASS 2000.0 is a 32-bit program, 32-bit ODBC drivers and a 32-bit version of
SQL*Net (also available from the Oracle Corp.) must be used.

Database Upgrade Program

You will have the opportunity to upgrade your database when you first install COMPASS 2000.0.
COMPASS will automatically upgrade the currently selected local database. Other SQLAnywhere
databases will have to be upgraded using the upgrade wizard. The upgrade wizard is found on the
desktop Start program menu via Start Programs Landmark COMPASS Tools
Database Upgrade Wizard. Follow the instructions in the wizard. The wizard allows selection of
the source and destination for the database.

Installation Issues
When using the package for the web installation, you may get a message asking Do you
wish to Overwrite *.CAB files. Select Yes to All and the installation will continue
normally.
If you install COMPASS in the Program Files directory, you will be required.to install
the license manager (LAM) in a different directory (Landmark\LAM). Landmark is
moving to using FLEXlm licensing for all PC products from 2001; this licensing service is
available in COMPASS 2000.0 to enable users to migrate earlier.
If you install COMPASS and are repeatedly informed that the installation needs to upgrade
the operating system, it is possible that the contents of the your TEMP folder are
preventing the Microsoft-supplied MDAC install from running correctly. If this occurs,
please perform the following steps. If this doesn't correct the problem, contact Landmark
support.

Installing COMPASS 2000.0

This section covers a basic, trouble-free install. If you are performing administrative functions, or
have any problems performing your installation, please see the full COMPASS Installation Guide,
located on the OpenBooks 2000.0 CD.
The COMPASS 2000.0 installation is located on Volume 2 of the CD Binder kit. You cannot install
COMPASS 2000.0 from Volume 1 of the kit.
1. The installation should begin automatically when you insert the Volume 2 CD. If for some
reason the autorun program does not work on your machine, you can begin the installation by
running Setup.exe from the COMPASS directory of the CD.
2. Click the COMPASS button to continue to the COMPASS screen of the Landmark common
installer. You can also view the system requirements and the 2000.0 release notes by selecting
the appropriate buttons. If you need information on licensing issues for COMPASS, you can
click the Obtain License button, which links to the licensing section of the Landmark
website. Once you are ready, select Install to begin the installation.
3. COMPASS requires the Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) v2.51. If the following
screen appears, the setup routine has detected that MDAC 2.51 is not installed. Pressing NO
will abort the setup and COMPASS will not be installed. Press YES to install the MDAC
v2.51 components. After these components are installed, the computer must be rebooted and
the setup routine must be restarted.

DFW Import
The DFW survey import functionality is still available in COMPASS 2000.0. However, because
COMPASS 2000.0 is a 32-bit program, it can no longer use the same ODBC data sources as DFW
(DFW is a 16-bit program).
To use the DFW survey import, the user must first create 32-bit system ODBC data sources that
have the same name as the 16-bit DFW data sources with 32-bit appended. This must be done
for both the DSN-Data and the DSN-System data sources.
For example: to create a duplicate of a 16-bit DFW DSN-Data ODBC data source called
Foundation Data that refers to a Microsoft Access database:
1. Install the 32-bit Microsoft Access ODBC driver.
2. Open up the ODBC administrator (go to Start
on the 32-bit ODBC icon).

Settings Control Panel and double click

3. Click on the System DSN tab.

4. Press Add.
5. Select the Microsoft Access driver.
6. Press Finish.
7. Name the data source Foundation Data 32-bit.
8. Select the same database file that the 16-bit Foundation Data ODBC data source refers to.
9. Press OK.
Repeat this procedure for the DSN-System data source.
