ABOUT LAST NIGHT: The Rainiers missed out


on a series sweep of New Orleans with a 6-4 loss.
Tacoma starter Tyler Olson, making his first career
Triple-A appearance, went 1.2 innings, allowing four
runs (zero earned) on five hits. Tacoma was held
scoreless until posting three runs in the eighth and
one in the ninth. Chris Taylor and Jesus Montero
both notched two hits and combined for two RBI.
Tony Zych provided 3.1 innings of scoreless relief,
Lucas Luetge allowed two runs on six hits in 3.0
innings of work, and Mayckol Guaipe recorded 1.0
perfect inning.

STRONG START: Over the last four games, Rainiers


starting pitchers have posted a 2-1 record and 1.45
ERA (3ERx18.2IP). Over the last 10 games, they
have a 3.15 ERA (19ERx54.1IP) and held opponents
to two or fewer earned runs seven times.

GOING STREAKING: Franklin Gutierrezs current


12-game hitting streak is the longest active on the
team and the second longest active streak in the
PCL. During the streak he is hitting .370 (17x46) with
10 runs, four doubles, one home run, and six RBI.
His .421 on base percentage is the third best mark
in the PCL. Since May 21, he has raised his batting
average from .296 to .323.

FOUR, FLOOR: The Rainiers have put together four


three-game winning streaks this year, and have had
three opportunities to complete a series sweep.
Following those three game winning streaks,
Tacoma has been out-scored 32-14 in the fourth
game. Rainiers batters have hit .246 (35x142) and
opposing batters have hit .304 (45x148) in those
streak-ending contests.

TONIGHTS STARTERS: Tacoma starting pitcher


Stephen Landazuri is making his 11th start of the
season (fifth with Tacoma) and his first career start
against Sacramento. In his four starts with the
Rainiers, he is 0-2 with a 10.34 ERA (18ERx15.2IP).
In his two PCL road starts, he is 0-1 with a 13.40 ERA
(10ERx6.2IP). In six starts with Double-A Jackson
to begin the season he went 0-2 with a 4.61 ERA
(14ERx27.1IP). Across all 10 starts this year he has
allowed a .302 (55x182) opponent batting average.
River Cats starting pitcher Jake Peavy is making
his fifth start of the year (second with Sacramento)
and his first career start against the Rainiers. Peavy
began his season with San Francisco, making two
starts and going 0-2 with a 9.39 ERA (8ERx7.2IP)
before being placed on the 15-day DL with a back
strain. He has since made rehab starts with San
Jose on May 22 (3.1,1,0,0,1,4) and Sacramento on
May 27 (4.2,9,6,6,2,2,1 HR). Opponents across all
levels have hit .333 (22x66) off Peavy this season.
BAW-SOME RELIEF: Logan Bawcom has allowed
just one run over his last seven relief outings,
spanning 16.0 innings for a 0.56 ERA (1ERx16.0IP).
Over that time frame, he has allowed an opponent
batting average of .151 (8x53) and lowered his ERA
from 4.34 to 2.67.

MEMORIES: The Rainiers played a four-game set


in Sacramento April 25-28 - the River Cats earned
a 3-1 series victory. The Sacramento pitching staff
held the Tacoma offense to a .229 (32x140) batting
average. Jarrett Parker hit .500 (8x16) with four
runs, two home runs, and seven RBI.

ERROR IN OUR WAYS: Tacoma and Sacramento


are ranked 13th and 14th in the PCL in fielding
percentage, respectively. The River Cats 61 errors
in 56 games is the highest total in the league.
SUPER SHAWN: Shawn OMalley has recorded
a hit in nine of his last 10 games. Over the last 10
games he has hit .417 (15x36) with eight runs, one
double, three triples, two home runs, and 10 RBI.
Since May 27, he has raised his batting average
from .223 to .270.
NONE SHALL PASS: Rainiers catchers this year
have combined to throw out 40.4% of would-be
base stealers, the second best mark in the league.
John Hicks, who has started behind the plate in 34
of the Rainiers 55 games, has thrown out 42.1% of
base stealers, the second best rate in the PCL.
GRAND THEFT BASEBALL: The Rainiers 68 stolen
bases are the top mark in the Pacific Coast League,
and are seven more than second place Iowa and 15
more than third place Las Vegas.

Promoted to Tacoma from Double-A Jackson on May 13.
Started the season with the Generals...went 0-2 with a 4.61 ERA (14ERx27.1IP)
through six starts.
Over first two starts of the season (April 9-15), limited opponents to two hits and
struck out seven batters without allowing a walk in 8.0 scoreless innings.
Did not allow a walk in his first 13.2 innings pitched (April 9-21).
Tossed 2.2 scoreless innings and struck out two in two Major League Spring Training games with Seattle.
2014:
