QUESTION TO BE PRESENTED USING PRESENTATION SLIDES

You have been appointed as Corporate HR Manager of an international conglomerate that has
operations in Malaysia, China, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia. Recently, your company
acquired a company in Cambodia and you are to lead the management staffing activities.
You have instructions from HQ to start identifying management staff from your current
overseas company to staff Cambodian operations. You will be holding a meeting with HR
managers from all your subsidiary companies and as an introduction you would wish to
present the fundamentals of International Human Resources Management.
In order to do this you need to prepare a presentation of the above said objective.

Your presentation should include:

Introduction
Define international human resource management (IHRM)
Understand how corporate strategy influences IHRM
Explain the major IHRM functions: recruitment and selection, training and
development, performance evaluation, compensation and benefits, and labor relations
Discuss additional special concerns of managing expatriate employees
Conclusion

1. Appropriate font sizes for presentations
a. Titles - 32 point minimum
b. Text in bulleted lists - 20 point minimum
2. Appropriate colors for visibility
a. High contrast for rooms with ambient light
b. Best is dark background with light letters
c. Light background with dark letters OK
3. Appropriate use of text
a. Slides should be an outline of talk not every word you plan to say
b. Put whole talk in speaker notes only
c. Keep to 6 lines per slide 6 words to line maximum
d. Quotations can be i full text. No full sentences to be used.
e. Delete articles (the, a, an)
f. If concepts can be illustrated with images/visuals, use them instead of word
4. Effective presentation skills
1. Audience focus: maintain eye contact with audience, not with computer screen or speaker
notes.
2. Clear and understandable speaking. Speak at a reasonable pace, not too fast or slow. Use
inflection to maintain interest. If voice is soft, use a microphone.
3. Involve the audience. Ask questions and wait for audience to respond. Call on individuals.
Pelan small group activities to break up talk if long.
4. Utilize progressive disclosure effectively for case presentations with heavy audience
involvement at each step.

Penalties for late submission of coursework

There is a standard policy on the late submission of coursework. Work that is submitted up to
one week late will be subject to a 10% reduction and work submitted up to two weeks late
will be subject to a 20% reduction. Work handed in more than two weeks late (without an
extension) will receive a mark of zero. If you are experiencing any difficulties in completing
