Polish Army selected TOEs 1993-2000

v.1.0 September 11, 2004

Marcin Jastrzebski.
Polish Army was for a long time under the influence of soviet military doctrine which one of
examples is also TO&Es. Polish TO&Es are similar to standard Russian units but sometimes
there are some differences. Polish units are often weaker and less equipped than comparative
soviet troops.
In the 1989 Polish Army disbanded all Tank Regiments in Divisions and all Mech. Regiments
had the same structure (2x mech. bat., 2x tank bat., AD bat., art. bat.)
The 1993 is the beginning of recreating units near the east border. It wasnt a regiment TOE
but brigade TOE. Until 1996 almost all polish Divisions had brigade level structure.
In the 1998 shortly before joining NATO it was established plan Army 2012. It was
beginning of revolutionary changes in land forces OOB (big reduction of units) and also in
TO&Es (which really changed in years 2000-2002).
This TO&E doesnt present a lot of changes during 1993 to 2000 because it is almost
impossible to follow it (for example signal equipment in 1993 was completely different from
year 2000 radio relays). This TO&E shows only the most common variants of equipment and
number of soldiers which can be different especially in older equipped units.
Special Forces
Group of Operational Mobile Reaction, GROM, (Thunder in polish) Rembertw near
Warsaw, counter terrorist unit (established in 1992, firstly in the Ministry of Interior not in the
Ministry of Defense)
280-300 operators + support troops
Its structure is secret but some sources tells a lot of this unit. Probably structure is:
HQ
3 special squadrons of 90-100 men (4 men basic troops) with western armament and
equipment (M-4, SIG 550, G 36 rifles etc)
Every of this sqds has their own specialization (like in british SAS which soldiers together
with Delta Force instructed members of this unit): blue - amphibious, green land
military operations, black counter terrorist.
Support wing (signal, intel, logistic etc. units)
1 special commando regiment (1PSK), Lubliniec (established in 1994, It has been three
special forces coys in military districts and one special forces battalion in Lubliniec before)
About 1000 men
