ABSTRACT OF PROPOSAL

This programme will be in charge by Vector Unit, Pejabat Kesihatan Daerah Hulu
Langat (PKD Hulu Langat) community. The main issue for this proposal is low level
of knowledge on vector borne disease and its prevention among school children.
Most school children did not aware about vector borne disease, the common vector
and also the way to prevent or reduce the vector borne disease cases. Through this
proposal PKD Hulu Langat target the school children as the based to control the
vector borne disease cases. From statistical data, children and teenagers in urban
area are prone to get dengue fever which is one of the famous and highest cases of
vector borne disease. The latest data showed that there are 2 dengue cases in Hulu
Langat area, thus PKD Hulu Langats community decided to start a school based
vector borne disease program at Bandar Baru Bangi as the first area to be cover.

VBDs community under PKD Hulu Langat had planned a programme that
can be help to introduce vector borne disease among school children. These
programme named A Day with Vector with a slogan of Aware Your Danger. As
propose in name this only a day programme that will use different approaches to
make sure information about vector borne disease can be deliver to school children.
In this one day programme there are different activities that can be held such as talk
and video about vector borne disease, student centre learning (SCL) section and
exhibition.

Different activities need to be done to deliver, improvise and evaluate the

effectiveness of this programme. Through this programme VBDs community have
aim to increase awareness, knowledge and understanding of vector borne disease
among school children in Bandar Baru Bangi. The community will be approach an
area with cases first and then will be expend the programme throughout Hulu Langat
area to maintain the sustainability. It also to make sure this programme will be well
known and can reduce vector borne cases in Hulu Langat area.

This programme will be in charge by the VBD of PKD Hulu Langat community.
From talk until exhibition, we will be prepare all the material and person involve. In
talk section, we invite our own Head of Department to give a talk about vector borne
disease with its prevention. He is someone whos able to communicate well with
children, thus there is no issue for him to tackle attention of school children in his
talk. In SCL or games, VBDs community will handle this section and held a plan
games and activities. Those games and activities are used for evaluation of school
children understanding. Exhibition will be held to give open knowledge booth to all
range of aged that present at school on that day. Evaluation also be done using
quizzes and questionnaire.

Resource for this programme mostly comes from VBD unit itself. We did not
charge any money from schools for this program. All pamphlet and free gifts are
provided by PKD Hulu Langat. Other than money resource, we also take into
account the statistical data of vector borne disease in Hulu Langat. All data are
gather from MOH, statistical websites and also e-notification of vector borne disease.
