INTRODUCTION TO REPORT

1.1 INTRODUCTION
As internship is crucial part of BBA (Hons) degree, during my two months (eight weeks)
internship in FATA SECRETARIAT, I observed the daily routine work in FATA
SECRETARIAT and captured it in my wordings. After finding acceptance letter from many
organizations, I selected FATA SECRETARIAT for internship because of my personal
interest, nearness and lack of terrorism threats and cooperative employees behavior to assist
me.

1.2 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

The study is about the general operations and management of FATA SECRETARIAT, and
focuses on the functions of FATA SECRETARIAT in the development of Peshawar.
Every student of BBA (Hons) Institute of Management Studies, University of Peshawar, has
to undergo an internship program of eight weeks in any organization to get exposure to the
real time business environment and to know what sort of changes information technology
brings in management activities. The real purpose of this internship program is to provide an
opportunity to the students to see the practical applications of their background professional
studies. The report is a reflection on my experience when I was internee in FATA
SECRETARIAT. Since its inception in 1975, FATA SECRETARIAT has maintained a steady
growth over the thirty seven years span of its operations.

1.3 OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

During my study in BBA (Hons) finance, I studied general financial rules and principles of
accounting and other related subjects. Readings broaden our vision about the businesses. But
still there is a great difference between theory and practical. To match and implement
theoretical concept with real work dealings, we undergo an internship practice. Through my

internship, I obtained in-department knowledge of the operations of the FATA

SECRETARIAT and the first hand training in the working environment of a FATA
SECRETARIAT.

Improve personal skills, working with people and the art of interviewing people
Developing analytical and report writing skills
To analyze the finance in practice in FATA SECRETARIAT and to assist the
management of FATA SECRETARIAT in optimal utilization of its finance in the best

possible manner
6. The next objective is to do SWOT analysis in order to know the strengths,
weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the organization and to recommend
suggestions
7. To make recommendations for the improvement of the operations of FATA
SECRETARIAT
8. To see the applications of our professional studies

1.4 SCOPE OF THE STUDY

The scope of this study is confined to IMS, University of Peshawar. Its main focus on finance
wing of FATA SECRETARIAT and in this way emphasis has been laid to study their
approaches towards finance, compensation and benefits, etc.

1.5 LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

The following are the limitations that I have experienced in completing my report.

Time was very limited and was not enough for a complete research of a specialized

and sensitive organization

Since most of the data was of confidential nature and was not available for reviews
Due to FATA SECRETARIAT tight work schedules, and non availability of the
required staff, complete information could not be collected easily

1.6 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

During my internship in FATA SECRETARIAT, the most important task was to collect as
much quality information about the organization as possible. For this, I have used a number
of techniques to collect the required data and conducted the study. The methodology, which
has been adopted for this research, is based on both the primary data as well as secondary
data.
