Europe has been dominating the biogas market over the past few years and trend is expected
to continue over the forecast period. This is due to development of new technologies and
favorable feed-in tariffs. Countries including Poland and Czech Republic account for major share
of the biogas market in terms of revenue and volume. Growing importance toward lowering
carbon footprint is likely to have a positive impact on the biogas market in Europe.
Furthermore, U.S. has the largest untapped potential for growth over the next seven years as a
smart solution to sanitation as it is produced from rotten food and waste water. Additionally,
prevalence of stringent environmental regulations in U.S. regarding emission of greenhouse
gases from conventional fuels is anticipated to boost biogas demand over the next seven years.
However, high costs associated with installation of biogas plants are likely to challenge market
growth.
Key players are involved in strategic alliances through technology sharing agreements and M&A
in order to increase global presence and market share. Major companies in the biogas market
include Xebec Adsorption, Malmberg Water, Van Der Wiel Stortgas, Air Liquide, Carbotech,
Cirmac, Ros Roca Envirotec, MT Energie, Acrona Systems, Kohler & Ziegler, Guild Associates
Dreyer & Bosse Kraftwerke GmbH, DMT Environmental Technology, Greenlane Biogas,
Prometheus Energy and DGE GmbH. In January 2015, Greenlane Biogas received a USD 2.3
million contract from Chinese based Longneng Weiye Environment Technology for the purchase
of two Rimu biogas upgrading systems. These two units were installed in Tonghe and Shangzhi
counties where dry and wet anaerobic digesters are to generate biogas from agricultural
feedstock.
