CO2 Fire System Pre-Commissioning

GENERAL GUIDELINES
Purpose/Scope
This work package encompasses all

requirements for commissioning, both


mechanically and electrically, the CO2 Fire
Protection System which starts at the CO2
fire bottle skid and ends inside the
enclosure at the dump nozzle. The Fire
Protection System also includes the
actuating cylinders on the enclosure
damper assemblies.
Precautions
All personnel who will be working with, on, or around
CO2 associated with this system should review the
appropriate MSDS sheets.

Proper care should be given to the transportation and


handling of CO2. Refer to all company guidelines and
procedures when working around CO2 from this system.
Caution must be used to ensure there is no activation of
CO2 during testing.

MECHANICAL CHECKS
1.

Check fire protection system against drawings.

2.

Check instrument valves and supply shut off valves for full travel and correct
position.
ELECTRICAL CHECKS

3.

Verify grounding connections.

4.

Inspect for visible damage to any cable or termination.

5.

Check for adequate distance between power, control, and instrument cables.

6.

Check conductor connections at both ends; identification labels should be attached


to each conductor.

7.

Verify size and current capacity of conductors is suitable for application.

8.

Check means of cable protection against mechanical damage at points where cables
leave cable trays or enter package.

9.

Check 24 VDC power to fire protection system.

10.

Verify electrical connections.


INSTRUMENTATION CHECKS

11.

Perform point-to-point checks using packaged supplied interconnect drawings.


Highlight drawing accordingly and insert signed copy in this section.

12.

Verify alarms function.

13.

Verify function of dump solenoids SOV-3059 and SOV-3061.

14.

Check flame detectors BE-3000A, BE-3000N and BE-3000C, as required.

15.

Check thermal spot detectors TS-3003a and TS-3003b.

16.

Check horn silence switch, as applicable.

Verify function of Gas detectors AE-3004A and AE-3004B.

18.

Check fire horns YSA-3006.

19.

Check strobe lights YSL-3036.

20.

Check manual release stations HS-3008, HS-3009.

21.

Verify function of release switch PSHH-3048.

22.

Verify CO2 Block Valve ZS-3084.

23.

Check and verify operation of analog and discrete readouts.

24.

Perform vent/fire damper activation test.


Connect instrument air to CO2 manifold in the CO2 cabinet.
Make sure all fire dampers GE 3020 and GE 3021 are armed in open position.
Check limit switch open feedback in the control system.
Plug the CO2 nozzles in the GT, Generator and fuel compartment.
Pressurize the CO2 piping with instrument air.
Verify that all fire dampers have closed. Check limit switch closed feedback to the
control system. Disconnect the instrument air again at test completion.

Verify the Fire Protection Interconnect Wiring Diagrams have been updated as
applicable.
