THE ESSENTIALITY OF

PHILIPPINE EDUCATION

ICT

IN

ICT or Information and

Communications Technology is an
umbrella term that includes any
communication
device
or
application, encompassing: radio,
television,
cellular
phones,
computer and network hardware
and software, satellite systems
and so on, as well as the various
services
and
applications
associated with them, such as
videoconferencing and distance
learning.
In
2012
Reconstructed
Basic Education Curriculum
conceived as an integrative
curriculum
that
promotes
integrated
teaching,
and
interdisciplinary, contextual, and
authentic learning. What makes
the curriculum interactive is the
use of information technology
and the greater emphasis on
computer literacy in all the
learning areas where equipment
is available.

In the Philippine Education,

ICT has been integrated to some
learning areas like EPP or T.L.E.
Others have already put this as a
lone subject area. About 14.28 %
in elementary and high school,
both public and private have
already
computers
in
their
schools.
Why is there a need to
embrace ICT especially in the
Philippine education?
In todays 21st century, ICT
has become more and more
integral in the lives of all people.
From the traditional to ICT
assisted techniques come more
meaningful insights and a more
realistic view of the things around
us.
It has improved the speed
of communication. From the old
mode of communication like the
snail mail in which messages may
be delivered five or more days
come the e-mail or the electronic
mail which may be delivered on a
blink of an eye depending on the
speed of the internet connection.

ICT is helping man to fulfill

his needs. A person from village
has also can refer the latest
information
and
research
everyday. Television broadcast is
one of the best communication
media to educate students, cook,
farmers, and all kinds of people.
The
difficult
experiments,
advance surgery for medical
students and the like can be
viewed. LCD projectors can be
used for effective training.
In online tutoring, the
student logs into his or her tutor
through the use of internet at
home. The student asks the
question and teacher replies it by
writing on smart board or using
PowerPoint presentation.
ICT focuses on the skills
needed
to
build
and
communicate knowledge. Goal
oriented curricula and syllabuses
can be changed according to
learners needs.
In
a
classroom,
ICT
motivates
learner.
Learning
process can be anywhere and

anytime. Students use interactive

whiteboard in classroom. Through
the use of multimedia lessons
using PowerPoint, videos, audio
clips, the students gain more
meaningful insights about the
lessons. They are also motivated
more because all their senses are
being used. Students also use ICT
as reference tool. They use
computers to browse the internet
to look for information, project
information
and
literature
surveys.

Teachers have fast access

to lesson plans, network of
teachers,
pedagogical
techniques,
and
information
resources.
Teachers
use
ICT
in
research for preparing teaching
materials; participate in online
forums and online conference.
They can also compute grades
easily through the use of MS
Excel. With the correct and
appropriate formula, one drag
away and whoala! The grades of

all the students no matter how

large the number or population is,
all the grades are therefore
computed.
FOR

9. ADVANTAGES OF ICT
EVALUATION
Student

accept more responsibility for

their own learning and its
assessment, developing expertise
in
the
process.
Teacher
application of curriculum can be
monitored by analyzing test
results. This can be used by

teachers
for
assessing
and
improving their own performance
meeting
state
and
national
standards.
10. Researchers
use ICT tool to collect ,process

and
analyze
data.
School
administrators use ICT tool for
administrative purpose to make
sure that the entire operation
runs smoothly. E.g. to get student
details at the click of a button.
