In fourth quarter of CAP Oral Interpretation we have one main project. The
Inspirations project is a project where groups make 10 minute plays entertaining, solving,
or drawing attention to a problem. Our goal is to inspire the audience to change.
At first my group had no idea what to do. We had no problems that we thought was
good enough to use. We had come up with ideas but they were very clich. After a lot of
thought we decided to do a play about the lazy kids in our generation. My group thought
about how in History we learned about all the youth in so many generations had helped
with so many issues. WW1 and WW2 for example, and even the Civil Rights Movement.
We compared our generation to those and thought about how sad it is that most people
of our generation dont do anything to help society.
The first thing we had to do was get research to back up our ideas. I went around
the Green CAP Group to find out who in our class did something with their free time to
help others. Only half the class actually volunteer and about half of their volunteering
had to do with animals more than the greater society. Others in the group had talked to
older people to see if they helped with a lot of things as kids, and many of them did.
Another thing we had to back up our idea was the actions of the youth of the World Wars
and the Civil Rights movements. All this could be found in a History textbook. Just doing
the research alone was thought provoking and made us feel bad because we don't
volunteer at all.
After this we had to design a play to show our ideas. What we decided on was a
play about aliens who are planning an invasion on Earth. The goal was to entertain this
idea to bring it to peoples attention. A huge theme in our play is how motivated and
focused other generations were compared to ours.
Although I still dont volunteer this project has changed me. I realized that as
humans its our job to teach and research and help others with our knowledge. Even
though it may make a small change it's important to be more concious of the people
around us.
