Senior executive- Clearing & Settlement
The first demutualised electronic multi- commodity exchange in India, granted
national status, is promoted by Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC), National
Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED), Gujarat AgroIndustries Corporation Limited (GAICL), Gujarat State Agricultural Marketing Board
(GSAMB), National Institute of Agricultural Marketing (NIAM), and Punjab National
Bank (PNB). This centralised and regulated marketplace for commodity futures
having monthly turnover of more than 3000 crores has 59 active trading contracts
listed in plantations, food-grains, spices, oilseeds, pulses and bullion. NMCE certified
ISO 9001:2000 from BSI (British Standard Institutions), conducts trading through
robust and tested online trading platform, Derivative Trading Settlement System
(DTSS), risk management based on 99.9% VAR for initial margin.

Experience
Total responsibility of clearing and settlement routed through branch office, ensuring
smooth and efficient delivery through warehouses on contract maturity,
administration and management, liaison with the commodity brokerage houses, and
with sale tax authorities.

Specific responsibility
Total responsibility of delivery: Delivery of commodities through the central
warehousing corporation in accordance with the apportionment received from head
office by issue/receipt of warehouse receipts, an average delivery of 1000 MT of
rubber, 500 MT of pepper and 150 Q of cardamom per month.
Ensuring timely compliance in clearing and settlement procedures by the
commodity brokerage houses w.r.t the margin requirement (initial, M2M, special and
delivery) as and when required. Fixation of freight differentials for delivery of
commodities other than the basis center. Implementing policy decisions on ageing
discount/ Crop discounts upon delivery. Monitoring compliance on bills produced by
clients (sale, purchase & Form 25 A).
Ensuring compliance with warehousing, viz, grading, storage period (shelf life),
storage charges etc. Monitoring movement of stocks, ageing of stocks etc for analysis
of WR regradation & revalidation.
Warehouse receipt financing (with a forward sale contract)- introduction and
implementation. Advising banks on competitive interest rates/ marking off
percentage on WR finance.
Liaison with the various boards coming under the Ministry of Commerce,
Government of India. v.i.z, the Spices Board, the Rubber Board etc.

Resolving matters on sales tax issues on interstate transactions.


Design flexible solutions for clients on implementation of VAT (Value
Added Taxation).
Product development (contract design) in versatile commodities v.i.z.
coffee, turmeric, copra etc.
Membership & compliance, handling matters relating to arbitration.
Presentations & general correspondence/ liaison with legal advisors &
charted accountants.

Executive
The first independent clearing house for commodity futures in India is
promoted by three major banks. i.e, M/s Indus Ind bank, Global Trust
bank & the Union bank of India. The company has the expertise and
capability to cater to a large number of clients in a multi commodity
environment. It has been functioning as the clearing house of the
International Commodity Exchange division of the India Pepper and
Spice Trade Association (IPSTA) and the First Commodities exchange of
India Ltd. (FCEI).

Total responsibility in Clearing and margin system: Closing of market
and co-ordination with daily rates committee, calculation of settlement
rates and the net open positions of individual trading members/ clearing
members and coordination with the banks for verification of ordinary
margin and special margin deposited by them.
Monitor delivery and handle the paperwork.
Surveillance: Implementing imposition of additional margin when
trade is met with undue volatility.
Responsibility of monitoring the collection of clearing fees, and
disbursing of the laga (trading fee) to the exchange.
Implementing policy decisions, conducting BOD meetings, EGM, AGM,
committee meetings and staff meetings.
Preparation of agenda and minutes of the meetings of the Board of
Directors, General Body meetings, Emergency meetings and other

committee meetings of the Corporation.

Transition from outcry to LAN: The metamorphosis from outcry to
electronic trading required in-depth study of the functions of the
exchange and the clearing house for the codification of the rules and
regulations, enabling members to trade screen based. In this regard
independently drafted the project manual by coordinating with the
codification team, with the trading members of the exchange and
with IPSTA management.

Demutualisation, IPSTA

Study on the status of Section 25 companies, its handicap for


expansion, and the background behind which the FMC (Forward
Markets Commission) set the norms for commodity exchanges to
demutualise.

Trading in multicommodities
Project report on versatile commodities, i.e, rubber, coconut oil,
ginger and chillies for getting the formal sanction for IPSTA, from
the FMC, to trade in multicommodities. Redrafting byelaws for
introducing new contracts for trading, new methods of trading, etc
