Our potential and mindset
Understanding how to do things that motive you to succeed in life is one of the most
important ways that Professor Carol Dweck talked in her article called the Mindset the
New Psychology of Success the one establishes yourself. In which she can identify a
person mindset just by asking couple questions, or even by seeing how a person acts
and takes decisions. To understand the kind of mindset that could turn a failure into a
gift, the person doesnt even has to take it as a failure, just learn about it and persevere.
How someone would love to do things that they dont even like without thinking if they
do or not like it? Or, how to set your mind to be a successful person who accept
challenges in life without giving up? By knowing the difference of the fixed and growth
mindset you can set your goals in work, school, parenting and life.
First of all, the grapple that a person has with something can determinate what kind of
mindset is; for example, if the person avoids a challenge or, easily give up that is a fixed
mindset otherwise it will be a growth mindset. In life there will be so many obstacles,
and trenches. In a fixed mindset students believe their basic abilities, their intelligence,
their talents, are the main issue. They have a certain amount that is it, and then their
goal becomes to look smart all the time and never look dumb. In contrast, in a growth
mindset students understand that their talents and abilities can be developed through
effort, good teaching and persistence. They don't necessarily think everyone is the
same or anyone can be a genius. But, they believe everyone can get smarter if they
work for it. At the same time facing trouble will make them stronger, to succeed and
even give example of life to their love ones.

In contrast, an endowment person without struggle can motivate other. There will be
always that one person who doesnt believe in him or herself an instead of taking the
easiest way avoids it. Professor Carol Dweck, by trying with students could determinate
that there were so many people that give up but, there were few others who kept trying
hard. A person with a growth mindset in life, work or in life can take the lead of any
situation with tenacity and learn from mistakes. Not just like a person with a fixed
mindset that fears of success. They cannot be changed and their IQ it will be always the
same, that is what they think having a fixed mindset.
Basically all started when I lived in Colombia. I was a disruptive student, I never paid
attention to class and I always was bothering my classmates in order to find what to do.
This class was a waste of time to me, the method of teaching English that that teacher
had, I found it out boring. There were tons of questions that I usually asked to my little
self. Why would I try to learn another language if out there, there is not that many
people who speaks it? This teacher had have enough of me, so she took a big decision
an before the semester was over the decided to grade my class with an F and dropped
me from her course. I was in 8th grade, having this lower grade never stopped me. I felt
like I could done more by myself than learning from her. I did not give up, in 11th grade I
was one of the best students in class and now, here I am. Still living my dream to
succeed.
In conclusion, a fixed mindset person never achieves the full potential of it. A growth
mindset person, reaches a high potential of their skills and little by little improves their
skills with much effort that can show how intelligence can be developed. Our potential
often marks the difference between excellence and mediocrity. It influences our selfawareness, our self-esteem, our creativity, our ability to face challenges, our resilience

to setbacks, our levels of depression, and our tendency to stereotype, among other
things professor Carol Dweck.
