1. Algorithm to Maximize Energy Delivery to Final

Users Using the Public Utility Grid for a Biogas
Power Plant in Monterrey, Mexico

ABSTRACT. An algorithm is developed to assign certain quantity of capacity of

the power plant to different users supplied by the biogas power plant
(BENLESA). This power plant installed in Monterrey, Mexico for public usage has
ten loads located in different places. The power plant has installed 16,960 kW
of capacity and its energy is wheeled to users using the public grid owned by
the state company CFE (Federal Commission of Electricity). The algorithm
optimizes the use of energy generated by the power plant assigning the proper
capacity to each user accordingly with the rules stated by CFE to measure the
backup, excess and wheeled energy. The power plant can assign any capacity
to their users, but this capacity once fixed, cannot be changed during one year
and CFE calculates the backup and wheeling charges based on that power
assigned for each user. For this reason is very important to choose the best
capacity assigned to users that maximizes the monthly invoice for BENLESA.
This is precisely what the algorithm does.

Este esquema tambin se puede plantear para otros tipos de plantas de

energa de origen renovable como elicas, solares, hidroelctricas,
geotrmicas, etc.

2. Cogeneration Model Adjustment to Follow-up Gas

Turbine Degradation

The basic information can be provided by the professor.

3. Waste Heat Recovery Feasibility Analysis

ABSTRACT. Several options are analyzed in order to determine the best solution
to reduce natural gas expenses using a heat recovery system. This recovery
system is intended for waste heat obtained from stacks of furnaces used in a
metal manufacturing factory for thermal treatment. A methodological
procedure is suggested to choose the best option obtained through simple
payback calculations.

4. Using Waste Energy from Industrial Furnace Stack

Gases to Generate Process Steam

ABSTRACT. A thermal energy recovery system conceptual design is presented

using wasted gases from industrial furnaces. The design includes the different
options analyzed and the restrictions put by practical conditions of equipment
already installed and steam demanded. Some field results of the recovery
system design already installed and in operation are presented and compared
with conceptual design.

5. Uncertainty Procedure for Gas Turbines

Performance Test
ABSTRACT. A uncertainty procedure is developed for a plant based on gas
turbine and one heat recovery steam generator. The procedure is base on
ASME code 19.1 Test Uncertainty, instruments and apparatus.

6. Comparing Real Measured Gas Turbine

Performance Parameters against Software and Gas
Turbine Manufacturers Information

ABSTRACT. Lessons learned in the development of a cogeneration project using

gas turbine and heat recovery boiler to generate steam to process are
presented in this paper. Field measurements of the cogeneration plant are
compared with heat balances using GTPRO software and also with
manufacturer information. Correction curves were constructed to translate field
measurements to reference conditions indicated in the heat balance. The paper
shows differences among software design results and field results of the
cogeneration already installed. Experiences and suggestions on what to use as
information for contract purposes is explained and justified to improve
engineering practices in power generation.

7. Conceptual and Basic Design of a CHP Plant to

supply Power and Hot Water for a Pharmaceutical
Facility
The professor can provide basic information.

8. Cogeneration and Alternative Energy Sources

Textbook Design

9. Savings Calculation Model for a Power House of a

Paper Mill Combining Gas Turbines, Package
Boilers and Reciprocating Engines
electricidad, vapor, agua, etc.

Burning Coke Oven Gas in Gas Turbines:

Options Analysis

ABSTRACT. An options analysis is presented to choose the best fit of gas

turbine and burning coke oven gas to generate power. The amount of coke
oven gas is determined by the operational conditions of the steel mill that uses
it.
