Cultural Behavior between India and

Canada
With the advent of technology, people are constantly moving from one place to another.
There are different living styles in the all over the world. India has more traditional type of
culture when on the other hand Canada is more modernized. With people always on move from
place to place, they experience different lifestyles and living conditions. Indians and Canadians
have cross culture influences in their daily living.
Firstly, the set of attitudes shared between the children of these two nations are worlds
apart. As the children are brought up in different environments the values shared between them is
also differ. According to Rubin and Menzer, Given that the majority of the worlds children do
not reside in Westernized countries, and that culture influences development, cross-cultural
research on child development requires special attention (Rubin and Menzer, 2010). The
children of Canada are more extrovert when compared India. They are more practical in
completing in tasks. They are brought up to be self-supportive in their lives and start earning
from an early age. On the contrast the children of India are brought up in pampered way and
always rely on their parents. Nonetheless, every child has its own ability that helps them to
prosper.
Secondly, the holy matrimony is by large the biggest cultural difference between these
countries. Tatla and Hyine says, in many Eastern cultures marriage is seen as the alliance
between two families, obligations and duties are seen as more important than personal
preferences ( Tatla and Hyine,2004). The individuals choice is not considered when the holy

marriage takes place. Its always the elder from the family that decides for a girl or a boy to
whom to get married. Whereas, in the Canadian culture this holy relationship takes place with
concerns of the both bride and bridegroom. The level of family involvement in arranging
marriages is the minimum. Basically Indian marriages are more inclined towards arranged
marriages and in Canada are more towards the opposite way.
Lastly, the bias treatment women in both the countries. In India women are more suppressed. The
women are treated with inequality in terms of inheritance, work and education. The authors say,
Traditionally, men want their wives to be submissive to the husband, and stay at home full-time
to look after the children. This has not been changed much in modern times( Kwong and Keng,
vol 31, 2004). The mindset of Indian men is to provide food and shelter for ones own wife. The
wife should not work and should take care of the household. They will have to subdue their
dreams and ambitions. The share of wealth for a woman in her fathers inheritance is also less.
Sometimes the woman does not even receive the wealth. If she gets it , the property wealth is not
equally shared between the men and women. In Canada women are treated with more equality
and justice. Every woman in this country lives on her own and is self- dependent. They fulfill
dreams and ambitions of their lives. For a woman in Canada she has the equal right of
inheritance and its even distributed in equally. In workplace women are paid the equal wages
along with the men, when compared to women receive less wages than men.
Thus, although there are so much advancement in technology and constant migrating of
people, there are different types of cultural experiences all over the world. The attitudes of
children, the choice of marriage approval and sex role differentiation between these two
countries is a factor to be considered and monitored.
