PhD Admissions under Visvesvaraya PhD scheme

Even Semester, 2014-15
Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), MCIT, Govt. of India has granted scholarships under
the scheme titled Visvesvaraya PhD scheme. Under this scheme presently admissions are open to PhD Degree
program on Full Time/ Part Time basis. This is a special scheme with following features.
For full time candidates:
Monthly scholarship of Rs.22, 500/- for first two years and Rs.25, 000/- for rest 3 years (support up to 5
years).

Rent reimbursement up to 20% of scholarship amount paid.

Annual contingency of Rs.30, 000/- .

Financial Support for attending International conferences.

For part time candidates:

A one-time incentive of Rs. 2.5 lakhs at the time of successful completion of PhD degree.
Applications are invited from Indian nationals for admission to PhD Program for the even semester 2014-15, under the
above scheme at NIT Durgapur.
Eligibility criterion: i) M.Tech in Computer Science/IT/Software Engineering, with a minimum of 60% or 6.5 CGPA at
Masters level.
ii) Preference will be given to GATE/NET qualified candidates.
Above eligibility is minimum requirement only. Good academic career and higher qualification will be preferred and
mere eligibility shall not ensure a call for admission test and/or viva voce. A screening of applications will be made and
only the short-listed candidates will be called for admission test and/or viva voce. There shall be a further screening after
the admission test.

Applicants seeking admission under this scheme are required to apply separately and superscribe the envelope clearly
titling Visvesvaraya PhD scheme and must be submitted to the following address on or before 12th February2015
with all testimonials.

APPLICATION CHECKLIST
The completed application must be accompanied by the following self attested documents:
i)

Photocopy of marks sheet / Grade card of the secondary, higher secondary board and other university
examinations.

ii) Photocopy of GATE/NET Score card.

iii) Photocopy of proof of date of birth.
iv) Photocopy of proper community certificate (SC/ST/OBC) from a competent authority (not below the rank of a
Tahsildar), if applicable.
v)

For OBC certificate (creamy layer), it must be issued on or after 1 st April2014.

vi) No-objection certificate from the present employer, if applicable.

An application without the copies of the required documents is liable to be rejected.
No admit card will be sent and all information related to admission shall be communicated through the website.
