BBU3900 and DCDU

The BBU3900 has a modular structure and consists of:

Control subsystem
Transport subsystem
Baseband subsystem
Power module

BBU3900 can serve any Radio Access Technologies RATs among GSM, UMTS, and LTE at
the same time, thus enabling triple-mode application. triple-mode is performed by control
subsystem using different circuit boards modules.

GTMU, WMPT and LMPT board

Functions of the control subsystem are implemented by the GTMU/ WMPT/LMPT circuit
boards modules. The control subsystem manages the Operation and Maintenance (OM) and
signal processing of the entire base station system in a centralized manner. It also provides
the system clock.
GTMU/WMPT/LMPT/UTRP also provides function for the transport subsystem.

BBU3900 GTMU WMPT LMPT UPEU boards

GTMU board - provide transmission, timing and management unit controls and
manages BTS in GSM mode.

Main functions of GTMU:

Provides Operation and Maintenance OM for GSM network (fault management,

configuration management,performance and security management)
Provides six CPRI ports for connection with RF units
Provides transmission interfaces for connection to transport network (one electrical
and one optical FE interface and one interface for four E1/T1 carriers)
Process clock signal and provide clock for boards in GSM mode
Monitor fan and power supply module
External alarm collection
Provide Ethernet port for local maintenance
USB port for automatic software update

WMPT board - WCDMA main processing and transmission unit

Main function of WMPT:

Provide OM functions of NodeB (configuration, equipment management,

performance monitoring, signal processing)
Provide interfaces for connection to transport network(same as GTMU)
Processing clock signals for services UMTS(NobeB) mode boards
For the system clock can be used Global Positioning System(GPS), port provided on
board
One USB port for on site download and activate host software
Signalling and managing resources for other BBU3900 boards

LMPT board - LTE Main Processing and Transmission unit

Main function of LMPT:

Provide OM functions of eNodeB (configuration, equipment management,

performance monitoring, signal processing)
Provides ports for communication between the eNodeB and the Serving Gateway (SGW), two optical and two electrical FE/GE port

Processing clock signals for services UMTS(NobeB) mode boards

Global Positioning System(GPS) port for external system clock source
One USB port for on site download and activate host software
Signalling and managing resources for other BBU3900 boards

The transport subsystem provides connection between the BBU3900 and next network
element:

GSM - Base Station Controller

UMTS - Radio Network Controller
LTE - Serving Gateway S-GW pools (IP switched network) .

Power module UPEU (UniversalPower and Environment Interface Unit) provide DC

power conversion usable for BBU3900 boards in the base station and provides external
monitoring ports.
Main functions:

Convert -48V or 24V DC power to 12V DC power used by BBU3900 boards

Provide reverse connection protection for power cable connectors
Provide two RJ45 connectors for external alarm monitoring (8 dry contacts)
Provide two RJ45 connectors fro RS485 monitoring signalisation
