SOLEMNITY OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION

OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY
VIGIL

December 7, 2014

ORDER OF SERVICE
I.

WELCOME AND INTRODUCTION

My dear brothers and sisters in the Lord, good evening!
This evening, the Church throughout the world solemnly prepares
for the solemnity of the Immaculate Conception which feast we will
celebrate tomorrow. This feast of the Immaculate Conception is an
invitation to reflect on what it means for us to live the mystery of
our faith in the face of the realities of our humanity, where so often
we struggle with the same question as Mary did. At the end of the
day, it is only faith that finds meaning in the mysteries of life and it
is only faith that enables us to live with the mysteries of life. This is
why the celebration of Marys ability to embrace the mystery of her
own life is a celebration for all humanity, since she who is just like
us was able to show us the way to let God work miracles in our
lives, for Gods own purpose and good pleasure! (Eph 1:5)
As we prepare to celebrate this special feast of Marys deep faith
and love for God, may our hearts be touched by Gods holy Word,
so that we too can celebrate the mystery of His life in us. Let us
also include in our prayers, our countrymen who are suffering
because of violence, poverty and various natural and man-made
disasters.
Let us ask the Immaculate Heart of Mary, who is Jesus' mother
and our spiritual mother, to present our prayers to Him!

II.

VIII. SOLEMN RECITATION OF THE HOLY ROSARY

The First Joyful Mystery The Annunciation
In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a town
of Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named
Joseph, of the house of David, and the virgins name was Mary.
And coming to her, he said, Hail, favored one! The Lord is with

you. But she was greatly troubled at what was said and pondered
what sort of greeting this might be. Then the angel said to her, Do
not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Behold,
you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall
name him Jesus. He will be great and will be called Son of the
Most High, and the Lord God will give him the throne of David his
father, and he will rule over the house of Jacob forever, and of his
kingdom there will be no end. But Mary said to the angel, How
can this be, since I have no relations with a man? And the angel
said to her in reply, The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the
power of the Most High will overshadow you. Therefore the child to
be born will be called holy, the Son of God. And behold, Elizabeth,
your relative, has also conceived a son in her old age, and this is
the sixth month for her who was called barren; for nothing will be
impossible for God. Mary said, Behold, I am the handmaid of the
Lord. May it be done to me according to your word. Then the
angel departed from her.
Our Father, 10 Hail Marys, Glory Be, Fatima Prayer, Peace Prayer
Ave, ave, ave Maria! Ave, ave, ave Maria!
The Second Joyful Mystery The Visitation
During those days Mary set out and traveled to the hill country in
haste to a town of Judah, where she entered the house of
Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. When Elizabeth heard Marys
greeting, the infant leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth, filled with
the holy Spirit, cried out in a loud voice and said, Most blessed
are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb. And
how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should
come to me? For at the moment the sound of your greeting
reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy. Blessed
are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord
would be fulfilled.
Our Father, 10 Hail Marys, Glory Be, Fatima Prayer, Peace Prayer
Ave, ave, ave Maria! Ave, ave, ave Maria!

The Third Joyful Mystery The Birth of the Lord

In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that the
whole world should be enrolled. This was the first enrollment,
when Quirinius was governor of Syria. So all went to be enrolled,
each to his own town. And Joseph too went up from Galilee from
the town of Nazareth to Judea, to the city of David that is called
Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David, to
be enrolled with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. While
they were there, the time came for her to have her child, and she
gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him in swaddling
clothes and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for
them in the inn.
Our Father, 10 Hail Marys, Glory Be, Fatima Prayer, Peace Prayer
Ave, ave, ave Maria! Ave, ave, ave Maria!
The Fourth Joyful Mystery The Presentation of the Lord
When the days were completed for their purification according to
the law of Moses, they took him up to Jerusalem to present him to
the Lord, just as it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that
opens the womb shall be consecrated to the Lord, and to offer the
sacrifice of a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons, in
accordance with the dictate in the law of the Lord.
Our Father, 10 Hail Marys, Glory Be, Fatima Prayer, Peace Prayer
Ave, ave, ave Maria! Ave, ave, ave Maria!
The Fifth Joyful Mystery The Finding of the Child Jesus in the
Temple
Each year his parents went to Jerusalem for the feast of Passover,
and when he was twelve years old, they went up according to
festival custom. As they were returning, the boy Jesus remained
behind in Jerusalem, but his parents did not know it. Thinking that
he was in the caravan, they journeyed for a day and looked for him
among their relatives and acquaintances, but not finding him, they
returned to Jerusalem to look for him. After three days they found
him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, listening to
them and asking them questions, and all who heard him were

astounded at his understanding and his answers. When his

parents saw him, they were astonished, and his mother said to
him, Son, why have you done this to us? Your father and I have
been looking for you with great anxiety. And he said to them,
Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that I must be in
my Fathers house? But they did not understand what he said to
them. He went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was
obedient to them; and his mother kept all these things in her heart.
Our Father, 10 Hail Marys, Glory Be, Fatima Prayer, Peace Prayer
Ave, ave, ave Maria! Ave, ave, ave Maria!
