SKPS / 2015 / P4 Level / 131

25 March 2015
Dear Parent / Guardian
Primary 4 Level Letter for Term 2 2015
Warm greetings! Welcome back to Term 2 for another term of enriched learning. The
Primary 4 teachers would like to thank you for your support and encouragement shown to
your child / ward in Term 1. Lets continue to strive for excellence in everything that we do
so that we can have strong belief in ourselves and be diligent in our efforts.
This term, we would like to focus on the value of Confidence. The word means more than
just being vocal in our thoughts or to speak in Internationally Acceptable English.
Confidence also refers to a person's ability to recognise and understand ones strengths
and leverage on these qualities to benefit themselves and others. People who are confident
will be able to socialise appropriately and enhance their own learning and use any available
opportunity to confidently present themselves.
Let me share with you a biography of a successful and confident local entrepreneur,
Thomas Feranandez, founder of PestBusters.
Mr Thomas Fernandez started his career in a pest control company and almost killed
himself on the job. Experimenting with different cocktails of chemicals without fully
understanding their effects, he had underestimated the toxicity of his concoctions. On the
hospital bed, Thomas reflected over the near-death incident and decided to take on the
proper route to be a professional pest management applicator.
Hungry for knowledge, Thomas went around searching for a course that would help him
achieve this goal. There was no pest control school for him to attend in Singapore. His
search ultimately led him to a pest control conference in Canada. It took him more than one
year to convince Ken Doty, a 20 year veteran of the pest management business, to be his
mentor. As an entrepreneur, you must never lose hope, Thomas advised.

When he started his business, Mr Thomas Fernandez invested heavily in training his
staff, empowering them with relevant knowledge so that they are able to deliver and
keep clients happy. Till today, Thomas strongly believes that knowledge is power
and as an entrepreneur, it is imperative to know every detail about ones products
and services.
Thomas shared that as an entrepreneur, one needs to be hungry and not
complacent. He believes in the importance of differentiating ones business from that
of competitors.
A market leader, PestBusters has captured 95% of the highly competitive premium
pest control market. Mr Thomas Fernandezs high-profile clients include the Whos
Who of the hospitality industry including Marina Bay Sands Singapore, Mandarin
Orchard Hotel, Grand Hyatt, Hilton, Raffles Hotel, The Fullerton, Shangri-La Group,
Capella Singapore, The Ritz-Carlton and Conrad, amongst many others.
Mr Fernandez is also involved in successful business ventures in other industries,
such as Timbre@The Arts House. He has mentored entrepreneurs such as the
owners of bridal boutique Silhouette, and solar film company Cool N Lite. Thomas is
also the co-author of three best seller books: Secrets To Dominate Your Niche,
Niche Dominator and Success Secrets Exposed.
Quote: Stand out and be different no matter which crowd you go to. Build your
brand and leave a legacy. Mr Thomas Fernandez

Like what Mr Fernandez mentioned, As an entrepreneur, you must never lose hope,
we want our pupils to not lose hope but instead to have self confidence in
themselves so that they can be make a difference in whatever they do. Confidence is
an important life skill to impart to a child and along with it, we will also like to
emphasise that your child should exhibit the 4As to show that he is ready to learn.
Firstly, the childs Attendance to school must be regular. He should come in the right
Attire and display the correct Attitude in suitable contexts. This will ensure that he
disciplines himself towards the expectations that will lead to his desired
achievements.
