CHAPTER I

PREFACE

A. Background

in understanding the English language we have to learn the

rules in the preparation of the word. sentences that are arranged


effectively and can be understood both in reading and in
communicating directly. because in practice we strongly support the
direct and easier for us to read, listen to information, which is
rooted in English.
benefits we study the gerund form so that we can put the
verb (verb) and coupled with the suffix (suffix) _ing which then
serves as a noun (noun).

A. Definition
Gerund is a word formed from the verb (the verb) with the added
suffix

(suffix)-ing

functions

noun

noun).

This word is verbal, which is a word formed from the verb, but it serves as
another part of speech. The other is verbal infinitive and the participle. As
with other verbal, this word is more common to name the action (action) or a
state of being (state).
This can be combined with a verbal modifier with or without
additional noun (s), a pronoun (s), or noun phrases form a gerund phrase.
It acts as a noun, then there must be another verb in a sentence.
