Read about how plants make their own food and label the
diagram using the words in bold.
Plants make their own food and to do this they need water, minerals, light
and energy from the Sun and carbon dioxide. The roots absorb water
and minerals from the soil. The water and minerals travel up the stem to
the leaves.
Plants make food in their leaves. This process is called photosynthesis.
The leaves absorb carbon dioxide from the air through small holes. Using
energy from the Sun, the carbon dioxide combines with water, minerals
and sunlight to make food. During the process of photosynthesis, plants
release oxygen into the air. People and animals need oxygen to breathe.

Read Marias email to the Mayor and then answer the questions.
Dear Mayor,
I live in Culleredo in the Autonomous Community of Galicia and
I use lots of local services.
I drink clean, fresh drinking water. I use the recycling bins near the
supermarket to recycle rubbish. I use the bus to go to school. I use
the doctor and the hospital. At weekends I go to the
swimming pool and to the music club.
I think that Culleredo is a very good place to live, but I think that
we need more parks to play in and more zebra crossings to help
us cross the road safely. I would also like recycling bins near my
house. I would also like to use public transport to go to the
swimming pool and to the music club. We need more clubs after
school for children to learn languages or to do sport.
Yours sincerely,
Maria
