If I were King, I would...

A King is the ruler of a kingdom or nation. In the modern era, the monarchy of many
countries mainly serves as a symbolic head of state. But the importance of a king is no less
important to a state or its people. The King and the Royal Family have a special place as the
heart of the nation, as well as representing the people whom they rule over. They are
respected and beloved by the people, not as a show of loyalty, but as a means of protecting
identity as well as the culture of a state. A King may hold considerable power and this sets
them apart from any other people. Not everyone in the world has the privilege and the power
of King. Sometimes, I wonder how it would be and what I would do if I were a King.
If I were a King, I would eradicate illiteracy and poverty in my kingdom or state.
Good education can guarantee a better state of living. If my subjects were given the proper
education and skills, I am sure they will be able to provide themselves with the means of
lifting themselves out of poverty. This would not only be beneficial for their own lives, but for
my kingdom as well.
If I were King, I would also ensure that the pupils in the schools in my kingdom are
given free breakfast and lunches as well as access to the latest information technology. The
meals in school are sometimes the only decent food that the children eat in a day. This may be
because they are from poor families or from families with working mothers who are unable to
prepare proper meals for them. When pupils basic need are fulfilled, it will make them more
prepared to study and pay attention in the classroom. Information technology is an essential
tool for learning. Schools are equipped with the latest gadgets, but some of them are not used
properly, or are outdated. As a King, I shall make sure that the gadgets as well as access to
any information related technology is granted to every pupil in the schools in my kingdom.

If I were King, I would lead by example. I would ensure that whatever I do can be
emulated by the common people. I would be charitable and generous and encourage my
subjects to be the same. They would not necessarily have to donate big amounts of money to
charities. It would suffice if they could help out in any ways they can, by spending some time
for the benefit of the less privileged. This would ensure a harmonious kingdom where the
people are always ready to help another. I would also practise my religious belief with utmost
devotion. I would respect the religion of others and learn about their cultures and traditions.
This way, I could understand my subjects and be sensitive to their needs and values. I hope
my subjects would do the same as well. In time, prejudices will be eradicated and my subjects
would live a peaceful and tolerant kingdom.
It is not an easy job to be a King, not is it a job for everyone, because it involves much
sacrifice for the sake of others. I truly admire the individuals who have lived up to their
calling as Kings.
