TURKEY MEETING

17th/18th January 2010

1.- LOGOTYPE.

The meeting started with the new logotype presentation. It was an


adaptation from the original logotype sent by Turkey which was the winner.
Turkey has already used the new logotype with different colours.

2.- ENGLISH VERSION OF BOOKS.

Each country brought to the meeting the English version of the book
they chose (the Italian book will be sent by mail as it was not
available for the meeting).

BULGARIA: The price, By Marko Semov. It's written in Bulgarian and translated into
English.Another proposal is Frames of Man at Rapid Pace by Nedyalko Slavov.
HUNGARY : One Minute Stories. More One Minute Stories by Örkény István. These two are
collections of really short stories, as their titles show.
ITALY: La Mennulara, By Simonetta Agnello Hornby. It's written in Italian and translated into
Spanish ...
RUMANIA: Evening Star By Mihai Eminescu. It's written in Rumanian and translated into
Italian, English ...
SPAIN: Grimpow, By Rafael Ábalos. It's written in Spanish and translated into Bulgarian,
Hungarian,Italian, Rumanian and Turkish.
TURKEY: Meditarranean Waltz, By Buket Uzuner. It´s written in Turkish and translated into
English.

As we agreed in the Bulgarian meeting, the best way to work with the books proposed by the
other countries is focusing on introducing the students new literatures, so from the English
lessons we will provide students with:

a) Biography of the author

b) Some useful information about the country

c) Plot of the book

d) Reading of a fragment of the book in English

The idea is that students know new book in an interesting way so that if they are interested
in reading the complete book, they can borrow it from the school library.

3.- READING CONTEST.

It was agreed that each country will organize its own reading contest and by the second
week of February all contests will be published in the wiki by each partner.

Turkey has already organized its own reading contest with the following books:

1-Mediterranean Waltz-Buket Uzuner


2-The Bridge over the Drina-Ivo Andriç,

3-Mediterranean (Sunrise)-Paniat Istrati,

4-The Alchemist-Paulo Coelho,

5-Crime and Punishment-Dostoyevski,

6-Don Quixote –Cervantes

The school contest is called “Book Worms”, the selected books will be read until the 19th of
March 2010, after that students will have a test and the winner will be awarded with a
surprise prize.

4.- DIGITAL JOURNAL.

Several titles were proposed for the journal and finally the title will be “European
Bookworms”, Read in Net.

The journal will have five different sections:

- My Country, my School.

- Society and Culture

- Leisure Time and Music.

- Sport.

- Comenius Corner

Within these sections, there will be a page for each country, so the total amount of
pages could be up to 30, not included the main page.

The journal will be finished by the 14th May, before the Romania meeting.

Help was asked to all participants to elaborate the journal. Coordinators will consult their
partners’ availability to collaborate with the journal and will tell the Spanish coordinator
during this week.

5.- AUTHOR MEETING.

During the meeting, each country exposed the author meetings proposed for this year. Author
meetings will be published in the web page by every country in the section “What we are
doing” when they take place.

6.- WEB PAGE.

It was decided to open three new discussion topics in the students section. The title will be
the following:

- Students aged from 12 to 14.

- Students aged from 15 to 17.

- Students aged 17 and more.


The second week of February there will be a chat in the morning. They are supposed to talk
about their school in that week and in the following week they will talk about their respective
towns.

7.- ACTIVITIES DEVELOPMENT ASSESMENT.

The coordinator will send the assessment indicators in February so that each country
can develop its own evaluation of the project up to now.

For the meeting about results which will be held in Romania the coordinator will send
fifteen days before the meeting the assessment tool so that each country can have it fulfilled
for the meeting.

8.- STUDENTS MOBILITY.

Students will travel to the following countries:

To Romania: students from Italy and Turkey. They will be hosted by families.

To Hungary: students from Romania and Bulgaria. They will stay in a hostel.

To Italy: students from Spain and Hungary. They will be hosted by families.

9.- POWER POINTS PRESENTATIONS.

Each country presented a power point with the functioning of their school libraries. A copy of
each presentation was given to all participants.
