the strong potion for hot bikes

Riding a motorbike is pure fascination! The sound
of the engine, the wind in your face, acceleration and
unrestrained power they all contribute to a feeling of
freedom beyond words. For the perfect fun of driving,
however, the technology should work without any problems. Therefore, the right potion for the motorbikes
engine is all-important. Today, four-stroke engine oils
meeting both JASO MA-2 and the U.S.-American specification API SM are the measure of all things. One of
the few manufacturers offering this kind of four-stroke
engine oil is ADDINOL with its new series Pole Position.

Standards Organization. JASO MA-2 describes the

highest requirements made on four-stroke engine oils
at the moment. It specifies increased friction coefficients at wet clutches and thus maximum clutch compatibility for engines with extremely high torque even.
ADDINOL Pole Position engine oils meet and exceed the
demands of JASO MA-2. They ensure reliable lubrication
even for sporty driving behaviour. The engine can deliver
its full power and wet clutches do not run the risk of slipping.

the requirement level: the higher the letter the higher are
the demands. Currently, API SM describes the highest
specification for gasoline four-stroke engine oils.
ADDINOL Pole Position in viscosity grades SAE 10W-30
and SAE 10W-40 are based on high-grade synthetic
oils and Pole Position SAE 10W-50 and 20W-50 on fully
synthetic components. A specially designed additive
package ensures the extra performance. The current
flyer ADDINOL Lubricants For motorbikes, scooter, karts
and quads presents the new engine oils as well as further
special products and contains all the information about the
JASO and API specifications. It is available for download at

Management
ADDINOL Lube Oil GmbH

Only in May 2007 our new production plants and the

extended logistics centre in Leuna assumed operation. Now further investments follow in order to establish the ideal preconditions for future challenges. At
the chemical site in Leuna we bought an additional
area of 25,000 m for future extensions. Part of this
area is used for additional tanks, warehouses and

production lines. The installation of an own batch

blender for the production of viscosity index improvers increases flexibility and independence. In addition, significant cost advantages can be realised.
From 2009 to 2011 about 10 million Euros will be invested.

ADDINOL our company experiences

solid growth orientated at quality
Since many years ADDINOL is expanding rapidly and
persistently. The number of our customers and sales
partners in Germany and abroad is growing continuously and so is the sale of our high-performance lubricants.
In order to satisfy the demands of all customers quickly
and flexibly also in the future we extend our production
and storage capacities in Leuna. However, the construction works themselves are only one aspect of many. We
attach the greatest importance to solid growth aiming
at quality in all areas. The ADDINOL family is growing
accordingly. Therefore, it is highly important to integrate
both, the new national and international sales partners
and our new colleagues, into our team successfully. At
the same time we put a great deal of emphasis on all
structures and processes we need for the future development of our company.
ADDINOL is not just a company but it is its employees,
partners and customers. And in every relation it is the
people who count first and foremost! We are all dependent on each other. One single person alone does not
get things moving. Open and fair relations are very important and most decisions are made in the team. Each
of us stands behind our ADDINOL. Together we master
all challenges and this is the secret of our success. But
the perfect teamwork is not our only advantage. Apart
from that we have an excellent development team and
a worldwide network of first-class partners. Our product
range comprises a perfect mix of industrial and automotive lubricants. This means we do not depend on single
branches as for instance the automotive sector. And we
offer high-performance lubricants for areas displaying a
good development all over the world and irrespective
of the overall economic trend, as the renewable energies sector. Generally, we develop all innovations in
our in-house laboratory. All high-performance lubricants
are produced and filled in Leuna. So we are always good
for an innovation. You find some of our latest highlights
in this issue of the World of ADDINOL.

In December 2009 the first cut of the spade was turned

during the ground-breaking ceremony and construction
works could begin. At minus temperatures excavation
started.

Only a few weeks later the foundations were cast for erecting
the tanks. Afterwards construction works proceeded quickly.

In May 2010 the first eight of the new outdoor tanks with a
capacity of 70 m each were erected.

Then the tanks were insulated and the foundations of the tank
station for loading were prepared. The tank station possesses
integrated scales.

The bridges for pipe installations were set up before building

the new production facilities.

The view from above shows the extent of the construction

works. In a few weeks time the new additional plants will
be put into operation. The area behind our present plant is
available for future building projects.

With the high-performance lubricants of ADDINOL we

want to provide our customers with the optimum solutions for their respective applications. And we place
special emphasis on the development of long-standing
relationships to our customers. These relationships do
not only depend on the quality of our products but also
on our personal knowledge and dedication. Maximum
quality, personal integrity, our understanding for the requirements of our partners and our commitment they
are all part of the corporate identity of ADDINOL. According to our underlying philosophy both partners should
benefit from a trusting co-operation in the long run.

the largest landfill gas site of Scandinavia
some other way, is fed to large incineration plants
or subjected to a special mechanical-biological
treatment. Still landfilling is widely used in many
parts of the world. In such landfill sites socalled landfill gases are formed, which can be
combusted in gas engines requiring special gas
engine oils for their operation.

The worlds largest engine for special gases at the plant in

Espoo: MWM TCG-2032 V16.

One inhabitant of the EU causes 522 kg of

waste on average per year. Waste used to be
deposited at large landfill sites. However, in
the long run this is no solution. For this reason,
Germany, for example, banned the landfilling of
untreated domestic waste in June 2005 already.
Waste, which cannot be recycled or utilised in

The decomposition of organic substances contained

in the waste produces landfill gases. Their main
constituents are methane and carbon dioxide. The
greenhouse effect of methane is 25 times higher than
the effect of CO2 and it is very damaging to environment and climate. Mixtures of landfill gases are highly
explosive and contain traces of harmful substances.
Therefore, landfill gases are disposed of actively by
combustion engines and used for the generation of
electricity and heat at the same time.
The operation of gas engines with landfill gases means
enormous loads for the engine. The high content of
hydrogen sulphide must be neutralised in order to
protect the engine against corrosive wear. The ideal
conditions for ADDINOL MG 40-Extra Plus which en-

ables the optimum neutralisation of acid components

produced in the combustion process. In addition, the
product displays a high ageing stability and offers an
outstanding and complete protection for the gas engine.
In the largest landfill gas plant of Scandinavia for
example ADDINOL MG 40-Extra Plus is applied with
success. The plant in Espoo with more than 240,000
inhabitants the second largest city in Finland has
a total power of 15 MW and is equipped with four
MWM* gas engines of type TCG-2032 V16. In close
co-operation with our sales partner in Finland the
plant was filled in spring 2010 and the four MWM gas
engines are in safe and reliable operation since then.
In Europe authorities go to great lengths to reduce the
share of waste disposal at landfill sites. Still active
disposal of landfill gases will be an issue in future as
well as existing landfill sites will produce gases also
in the upcoming years and these can be used for the
generation of energy.

ADDINOL Gas engine oils for micro-CHP

Never before have such subjects as energy

efficiency, CO2-balance and protection of the environment been debated as much as they are at the
moment. Also when it comes to the supply of private households with heat and electricity alternative approaches gain in importance. The magic
formula: decentralised energy supply by the help
of compact units, so called micro-CHP, using the
principle of combined heat and power generation.
By producing heat and electricity simultaneously
the input energy (mainly natural gas) is converted with optimum results. These micro-CHP
achieve efficiencies of more than 80 %; between
10 to 40 % primary energy is saved, compared
to the separate production of heat and electricity
CO2-emissions are reduced by up to 60 %.
At the moment there are several companies at the
market offering micro-CHP. All of these plants are
similar regarding their conditions of operation and
the typical requirements: high temperature loads,

stop-and-go operation, small oil volumes and the

wish for long lifetimes with minimum maintenance
effort. For their convenient use ADDINOL provides
two synthetic gas engine oils perfectly tailored to
these particular operating conditions.
ADDINOL Gas engine oil MG 40 PowerSynth is ideal
for compact cogeneration units operated with natural
gas. The heat- or electricity-controlled mode leads
to numerous starts and stops posing extreme conditions for the engines. In order to realise optimum
performance even at small oil volumes and to keep
maintenance effort to a minimum lubricants are required possessing a high ageing stability and providing long-term protection against corrosion and
wear as well as reliable lubrication even at high
temperatures. Ideal conditions for ADDINOL MG 40
PowerSynth a synthetic, low-ash gas engine oil
with special additives displaying an excellent stability
and ensuring clean engines.

Gas
engine oil MG 40
MicroPower was
especially developed
for microBHKW L 4.12 made by
Kirsch Home Energy in close co-operation with VNG
(Verbundnetz Gas Aktiengesellschaft). The compact,
heat-controlled gas heating system for one- and twofamily houses achieves an overall efficiency of 95 %.
The mono-grade engine oil ADDINOL MG 40 MicroPower forms a stable lubricating film even at high
combustion temperatures and loads because of its
superior thermal-oxidative stability. In addition, it enables optimum performance by protecting the engine
against corrosion and wear over long periods and
ensuring excellent engine cleanliness. ADDINOL Gas
engine oil MG 40 MicroPower is applied in the plants
of Kirsch as first fill and service product. Currently
the first 150 plants filled with ADDINOL MG 40
MicroPower are being tested for their suitability for
daily use. Official sales start will be in March 2011.

Hydraulic plants ADDINOL HV Eco Fluid

reduces energy consumption by up to 5 %
HLP 46 (DIN 51524-2, DIN EN ISO 6743-4 HM) had
been used. The system required no flushing before
the change as the new fluid can be mixed with standard hydraulic oils according to DIN without any problems.
During application the operator of the injection moulding machine measured and documented energy consumption. Before and after the oil change the same
kinds of injection moulding parts were produced by
the machine. For both parts energy consumption under constant conditions (same cycle times etc.) was
determined and calculated for every piece moulded.
In the time monitored the same number of parts was
manufactured. Therefore, the energy consumption
per injection moulding part could be determined very
exactly.

Since February 2009 this 650 kN injection moulding machine at a supplier of automobile industry has been using ADDINOL HV Eco Fluid
and energy consumption could be cut by 5 %.

Ten months after the start the records were analysed

for the first time. For the operation with ADDINOL HV
Eco Fluid 46 energy consumption was reduced by
4.8 %. In concrete figures this means:
In the first year of operation with ADDINOL HV
Eco Fluid costs declined by about 500 EUR. This
calculation already takes the extra costs for the
higher-quality oil into consideration.
Provided the oil is not changed in the meantime
total savings amount to ca. 3,000 EUR after three
years.
If further injection moulding machines of the plant
are changed over to the new fluid this will cut total
costs accordingly.

Modern hydraulic systems pose ever

increasing demands on hydraulic fluids. Some
years ago hydraulic oils of type HLP used to be
standard; nowadays advanced products with
improved temperature as well as friction behaviour
are applied more and more often. With HV Eco
Fluid ADDINOL offers an innovative hydraulic fluid
which increases the efficiency of hydraulic systems
and decreases the energy consumption of plants.
In long-term tests for instance in an injection
moulding machine the operator could prove
savings of up to 5 % together with ADDINOL.
Stationary hydraulic plants are being applied in nearly
all branches of industry. One typical application asking
for superior performance and perfect precision are injection moulding machines in plastics industry. Their
efficiency and compactness are growing. Because of
reduced tolerances and improved surface qualities
larger operating pressures are possible to achieve
higher clamping force and a more precise operation of
components. At the same time machines of enhanced
efficiency are supposed to require less energy and
to be available all the time. This in turn means increased requirements on the hydraulic fluids as well
which transmit forces, lubricate and protect. Hydraulic
systems in modern injection moulding machines
usually use smaller oil volumes this reduces the
residence time of the hydraulic fluid in the oil tank and
thus also the time available for cooling down. Therefore, operating temperatures of hydraulic oils rise.

Conventional hydraulic oils are more prone to

ageing
Smaller oil volumes, higher pressures and rising operating temperatures are extreme operating conditions
requiring more than conventional hydraulic fluids.
Furthermore, all lubricants and hydraulic fluids are
subject to ageing during their application which
means they react with oxygen. High temperatures,

long operating lives, increased pressures and sometimes also wear particles accelerate this process. In
order to slow it down the fluids contain anti-oxidants.
However, these additives degrade with longer
operating times, as do anti-wear-components.
In combination with heavy operating conditions
these speed up the oil ageing further. A decreased
performance and an increased viscosity have direct
effects on the efficiency of the pump. Pressure buildup necessary for the operation of the injection moulding machine is not effected as required. Oil viscosity
does not only influence the efficiency of the pump but
also energy consumption. Therefore, the hydraulic
fluids viscosity should be as stable as possible over
the whole operating period.

Higher efficiency less energy consumption

ADDINOL took these complex relations into consideration and developed the novel hydraulic oil ADDINOL
HV Eco Fluid. It is based on high-grade mineral oils
and an additive technology especially developed for
these conditions. Compared to conventional HVLP,
HV Eco Fluid achieves a higher efficiency of the hydraulic altogether which means: higher power under
full load, more precise reaction of the system and less
energy consumption.

In addition to measuring and calculating the energy

consumption, ADDINOL had a sample analysed by an
independent laboratory after the first six months with
positive results: the sample did not show any irregularities. In order to guarantee maximum safety and to
collect further information on the performance and
power of the product, the application is accompanied
by oil sample analyses once a year. The fluid has been
applied since February 2009 in the machine sketched
above without any failures or problems. Energy consumption is still recorded to make statements on the
products sustainability over longer periods.

Cost reduction proven in practice

In order to prove the performance and the reduced
energy consumption under practical conditions
ADDINOL documented the application of HV Eco
Fluid 46 in an injection moulding machine. The plant
of type Krauss-Maffei 650 (650 kN clamping force) is
operated by a well-known company in plastics industry producing parts for auto industry such as handle
bars and covers for engine compartments. Operating
times per year amount to roughly 7,500 hours; oil filling is 1,500 litres. Before, conventional hydraulic oil

(HVLP), DIN EN ISO 6743-4 (HV), ISO 11158 (HV),
AFNOR NFE 48603 (HV), CETOP RP 91 H (HV). The product can
be delivered in the viscosity grades ISO VG 32, 46 and 68.

ADDINOL Mould release oils

a clean job for concrete industry

Whether we are on the way to the customer,

to the office or go for a trip at the weekend
everywhere we come across construction
sites or road works where houses, bridges or
tunnels are built. Often pre-cast elements such
as concrete pipes, railroad sleepers or special
components are used. Usually we are impressed
by the constructions, apparatuses and cranes
but do not think of the application of oils right
away when we see elements and buildings made
of concrete. Actually however, this area offers a
wide and complex field of application with special
requirements. Generally concrete components,
walls and ceilings are manufactured by the help
of special moulds. Mould release oils are applied
in order to separate mould and finished product
and they face a number of functions and tasks.
The construction of concrete buildings and the production of fresh concrete as well as concrete elements of light, standard or heavy concrete involves
moulds made of wood, steel or plastics. In order to
achieve an optimum separation between form and
concrete so-called mould release oils are used. They
protect all types of moulds against environmental influences, damages and ageing; for moulds made of
metal corrosion is prevented as well. In some countries used or waste oils or similar substances are applied still. Because of unstable qualities their results
are not satisfying: the separation between mould and
concrete is insufficient, concrete elements are soiled
and moulds are not protected properly. Furthermore,
the use of such agents means considerable risks for
the workers and their health not to forget environmental dangers which should be avoided.

Operation of mould release oils

Manufacturers of plants in building materials industry
require special release oils for producing concrete elements and pre-fabricated parts by the help of moulds.
These mould release oils are applied to the mould to
prevent an adhesion of the concrete. They contain
additives with separating effect, as for instance fatty
acids, which form lime soap and water when reacting with wet, alkaline concrete. This soap film in turn
effects the clean separation between mould and concrete.

have to mix with the base oils easily. Their environmental compatibility is also of great importance and
for storage they should display good low-temperature
behaviour. Compared to paraffin oils and hydrocrack
oils, vegetable oils possess a lower ageing stability
and are more temperature sensitive which makes their
application more difficult.
Carefully selected compounds are added to the base
oils to impart characteristic properties. These additives ensure the separating effect, enhance adhesion
as well as wettability and protect moulds made of
metal against corrosion.

Requirements on mould release oils

Operating conditions for mould release oils are characterised by varying temperatures, dust, humidity
and impact loads. Thus, mould release oils should
possess high temperature stability, adhesive strength
and wettability. They ought to form a stable separating
film and provide reliable protection against premature
ageing and corrosion. After all, the user expects the
reliable separation between mould and concrete as
well as clean surfaces and long operating periods.
Monolithic construction for instance depends on clean
moulds as these cannot be cleaned during work.

Types of mould release oils

Mould release oils can be based on mineral and semisynthetic oils as well as vegetable oils. Pre-mixed
emulsions can be applied as well. The most important
criterion of base oils is their viscosity which must be
tailored to the specific application. Besides, base oils
ought to display a high ageing and temperature stability and they should not separate additives as these

and more careful than the manual one. Irrespective of

the method the right viscosity has great influence on
the separation. In order to obtain a thin and even oil
film by the help of spray nozzles the oil needs to be
heated up sometimes as oils of higher viscosity, for
instance, require heating to be sprayable. But also for
the use of brushes the oils viscosity influences the
amount of the oil applied because brushes are not adjustable regarding their applied quantity. Thus the oils
quantity applied depends on its viscosity; this means
mould release agents of higher viscosity cause higher
consumption in turn. Overdosage and underfeeding
must be avoided by all means. If the mould release
agents quantity is not sufficient, the demoulding process is hindered and traces of concrete are left on the
moulds. An overdosage on the other hand also entails
risks as the soapy separating layer does not only form
on the surface but also penetrates into the concrete
resulting in detached particles as well as disruptions
and soiled concrete surfaces. For the economic application of mould release oils the right viscosity and the
respective method of application are decisive.
The skyline of Frankfurt am Main the cathedral Kaiserdom and the Main bridge were built with red Main sandstone traditionally but
for modern architecture concrete is essential.

ADDINOL Mould release oils

The product range of ADDINOL includes various mould
release oils and emulsions for the single areas of application. For the manufacturing of aerated concrete
our F 135 has been tried and proven successfully. It is
based on mineral oil and contains special separating
additives; it is distinguished by its superior wettability
and adhesive strength. The chemical separating layer
prevents the direct contact between mould and cake
and they can be separated without any difficulties or
residues. Additional components protect steel moulds
against corrosion and ensure long operating lives. The
viscosity of ADDINOL mould release oil F 135 at 135
mm/s is ideal for an economic use.
The mineral oil based mould release agents F 10 and
F 68 are suited for the universal application in the manufacturing of concrete elements using moulds made
of wood, steel or plastics. They are also applied in
monolithic construction and in the manufacturing of
heavy concrete elements; F 10 is preferred for the

production of exposed concrete. They are highly

adhesive, also at upright moulds, provide reliable protection against corrosion and are free of solvents.
The biodegradable Ecoplus XT U is based on vegetable oils and is preferably used for the manufacturing
of exposed concrete poor in blowholes and pores.
The colourless emulsion is ready for use and highly
fit for ecologically sensitive areas. It can be used for
moulds made of steel and plastics and does not leave
any discolouration or stains on the exposed concrete.
The manufacturing of concrete elements and prefabricated parts does not only offer a field of application for mould release agents but also for a number
of further lubricants starting from gear oils and chain
lubricants up to hydraulic and compressor oils as well
as greases and engine oils for cars and trucks.

The department R & D one success factor

for ADDINOL
ADDINOL is one of the few companies
in the German mineral oil business acting
independently of any large business group and
having an own department for research and
development. With regard to the demands on
lubricants, which saw an enormous increase
during the last years, the in-house development
proves to be indispensable. ADDINOL did
recognize its importance for the companys
success and innovative strength years ago
after all the high-performance lubricants made
in Leuna set standards again and again. Jrgen
Deckert, head of Research & Development, is in
charge of a team of five dealing with the complex
tasks related to the development, application and
quality management of the ADDINOL lubricants.

Editors: Mr Deckert, how did you come to join ADDINOL and which are your duties in the company?
During my studies of marine engineering at the Technical Department of the University in Rostock I did a
practical internship of three months at the engine test
benches in the former Minerallwerk Ltzkendorf in
1969. Back then I did realize that I wanted to work
at this extremely efficient research and development
centre of lubricant industry. On September 1st, 1970
I started to work at the department Test benches
which was part of Research & Development. Already
at that time new engine-specific and technical test
procedures were developed here for assessing
important usage properties of base oils, additives as
well as finished products. For the successful development and application of lubricants these practical test
benches and an efficient instrumental analytics are the
crucial basis. In 1985 I was appointed to run the main
department Lubricant testing. During this phase I
could contribute more than before to making the lubricant a real construction element. After the German
reunification the company experienced far reaching
changes having an effect on the scientific and technical work as well. In the ADDINOL Lube Oil GmbH I
was responsible for the development and application
of automotive lubricants for many years. Since 2009 I
have been head of the department Research & Development for the development of all lubricants.

Editors: This means you are celebrating your 40th

anniversary at ADDINOL, our congratulations!
Yes indeed, hard to believe how time flies. I am glad
about staying here over so many years and the different phases. I like my job and I am looking forward to
the new challenges it brings every day.

Editors: What are the duties of the department Research & Development?
Generally our department has three basic functions:
first of all, the development and further development
of lubricants approved by OEM*, secondly the solution of practical problems and questions in close cooperation with application technology and sales, and

The department R & D (f.l.t.r.): Steffen Homberg, Mayka Nehrkorn, Doris Behrens, Hans-Jrgen Scholz, Jrgen Deckert

thirdly the securing of our product quality together

with laboratory and production.

with manufacturers such as MAN, MWM, GE Jenbacher and MTU!

Editors: Speaking of the development and

advancement of lubricants: Could you outline the
steps from the idea to the finished product briefly?

But lets get back to the single development steps.

Last but not least the demands of our partners both
in Germany and abroad have an important impact as
they depict the specific demands of the market.

National and international specifications are the starting point for the development and advancement of
our lubricants. Take for example ACEA the association of European vehicle manufacturers draws up
requirements on engine oils with regard to engine
cleanliness, ageing behaviour, wear protection, reduction of fuel consumption and so on based on strict
testing methods. One could say these specifications
describe the requirements shared by the single OEM
and set the framework for the development process.
In the industrial sector DIN ISO and ASTM, the U.S.American equivalent of the German standard, are an
important basis. Of course these specifications are
subject to the ongoing development of technology
and they are added to or made stricter accordingly.

Based on these three pillars we draw up a conception of the development project and the respective
responsibilities. Depending on the particular requirements we discuss the possibilities with base oil and
additive industry. These technical discussions are the
basis for the first blendings composed in the laboratory. Their values are determined and analysed with
regard to the objectives, then tests under practical
conditions are carried out in the laboratory and on test
benches. If the results achieved are positive the product is tested in practice, often comprehensive field
tests in co-operation with the equipment manufacturers follow. Finally we have the product ready to be
introduced at the market.

Apart from these specific requirements there are the

demands of the single vehicle and equipment manufacturers both in industry and the automotive sector,
examples are VW specification 504 00/507 00 or the
standards of Flender/Siemens or Brckner.

Editors: So the OEM play a vital part for the development of products?
Absolutely. The close co-operation is highly important. Over the years we could build excellent relations
with various equipment manufacturers and established as competent lubricant provider. Our gas engine oils for the operation with special gases are a good
example to illustrate what I mean here we could realise a totally new oil quality in spite of the difficult gas
qualities in close collaboration and intense exchange

Editors: Is there something about the development of a product requiring particular attention?
The selection of the most efficient base oil is absolutely decisive. Whether a mineral, synthetic or semisynthetic product is used or even vegetable components depends on the specific application and its
conditions such as temperature, operating period or
loads. Of course particular characteristics such as
foaming tendency, wear protection or load-carrying
capacity are influenced by the help of additives significantly; however, without the right base oil of high
quality the best additives cannot achieve any effect.

Editors: Are there any other influences playing a

part in the development apart from OEM and the
industry?

Editors: Which brings us to your co-operation with

application technology.
Yes, that is right. Application Technology can be described as important interface between sales and
development, therefore this co-operation must work.
After all, new products entail questions on their characteristics and application from customers and partners these are answered in detail by Application
Technology. But there are also special applications
and questions brought to us by Application Technology, our sales staff or partners which are discussed
with Application Technology.

The co-operation with research associations and universities is highly important for the development and
advancement of our products as well. In the FVA (one
research association dealing with drive technology),
for instance, we have the opportunity to discuss various topics with scientific institutions and operators
from practice which gives us important impulses for
our work. There are also close co-operations regarding the analyses of specific characteristics of our
lubricants with various universities as for example the
Technical Universities of Munich and Magdeburg or
the Technical Academy in Esslingen.

Editors: What did change for your job since the

new production plants in Leuna have been put into
operation?
Naturally, the start of operation had an enormous
impact on our task of quality management. It begins
with checking all components which are delivered.
For every single product we must define its specific
production technology starting from the temperature
of blending up to blending technology. On the basis

of inspection plans specified by R & D every batch

produced must undergo a strict quality check in the
laboratory before the product is filled or stored. This
way we ensure that all products are delivered in line
with specifications and in high and stable quality. Of
course relocating our production here was a decisive
step for our development. And there is more to come
in autumn we are going to start our own production
of the VI improvers which are particularly important
for automotive lubricants.

Editors: Which products stand out from the countless developments particularly?
Here I should name the gas engine oils MG 40-Extra
Plus and LA for the operation with natural gas and
special gases already mentioned. In addition, of
course all industrial lubricants having a friction-reducing effect and decreasing energy consumption such
as HV Eco Fluid or Eco Gear and Belt Lube. Last
but not least our Low SAPS engine oils, for example
Giga Light MV 0530 LL, for cleaner high-performance
diesel and gasoline engines and the reliable protection
of exhaust treatment systems.

Editors: Do you think this is the future development trend?

Yes, definitely. The topics environmental protection
and sustainability influence our development considerably. Today it is a special challenge to develop
lubricants as constructional elements meeting the
extreme demands placed on them by the utilisation of
renewable energies. Furthermore, we aim to achieve
the protection of environment and resources with
each development by the help of long operating lives
and their energy saving potential.

To aim high with ADDINOL

The gears of wind power plants are a
typical field of application for ADDINOL Eco
Gear. Changes of the plants to the highperformance gear oil or inspections of drives
are supported by the experts of ADDINOL on
the spot. We accompanied Steffen Homberg,
Thorsten Loh and Cornelius Korn [see picture
no. 1] at one of their missions at dizzy
height.
From the entrance [see picture no. 2] to the steel
shaft of the wind energy plant up to the pod a
vertical ladder of about 70 metres leads upwards.
Condition and a good head for heights are required for climbing to the top. On the way there
are three platforms for having a rest. However,
hatches are narrow and one should not take
things such as bags and rucksacks.
Secured like a mountain climber [see picture no.
3] one can start for the top. The harness must fit
and be put on correctly. Then the large karabiner
is connected with the slide carriage positioned in
a rail in the middle of the ladder. In an emergency
the carriage blocks immediately and the harness
secures the climber.
Up in the nacelle our patient [see picture no. 4] is
waiting already: the main drive gear of the plant.
It had been changed to ADDINOL Eco Gear some
months ago and needs to be inspected now. The
inspection also includes a visual check of the
tooth flanks.
Besides, casts are taken [see picture no. 5] of
the tooth flanks which did show damages before
changing to ADDINOL Eco Gear. Here, Thorsten
Loh uses a special impression material. In the
plant it is quite cramped even if the roof of the
nacelle can be opened as in the plant shown on
the picture.
The look down is not for the faint-hearted [see
picture no. 6]. Goods are transported by the help
of a hoisting winch outside of the plant. If the oil
needs to be changed maintenance companies
use tube systems which can be drawn up by a
winch. Some operators also change the oil themselves which means transporting the gear oil upwards in cans and the used oil downwards the
same way. However, irrespective of the method,
oil changes at dizzy height involve much effort
and respective costs. So ADDINOLs long-term
warrantee of four years for ADDINOL Eco Gear
makes life a little easier!

Lallinger a strong partner in Bavaria

Max and Betty Lallinger, Thomas Zwingler, Richard Floegel

When Max Lallinger founded his company in
1994 he was one step ahead as usual. From the
very beginning he relied on high-performance lubricants made in Leuna. And he was one of the
first who saw the chances of specially formulated
gas engine oils for biogas plants. Today his company possesses a respective circle of regular
customers. They all appreciate ADDINOLs gas
engine oils and their calculated oil change intervals based on oil analyses, the quick delivery and
the good customer service provided by Lallinger.
Seven people work at the company located in
Schechen, near Rosenheim in the Chiemgau.
While the firm owner takes care of the customers
himself he is supported by Richard Floegel in the
office. The warehouse in Schechen extends over
1,000 m2 there all ADDINOL products regularly
in demand are being stored. Deliveries in Bavaria
and around the border are carried out by three
company-owned trucks.

Many people know the Chiemgau as beautiful holiday destination. Usually holiday-makers have plenty
of time and thats why it moves at a different pace
for them. Still Bavaria is the strongest federal state of
Germany from an economical point of view and many
successful companies are located there. Therefore, Lallinger Schmierstoffe GmbH is partner of
numerous manufacturing companies. Among these
are Germanys market leader for parquet floors,
HARO Hamberger Flooring GmbH & Co. KG, and
paper mills of Mondi. In the sector of food industry
the dairy producers Meggle Wasserburg GmbH & Co.
KG head the customer list.

Bavarias regional league. Both there and in his job

he follows the maxim. Success does not depend on
the gab but on using your head. And the potential of
a mineral oil trader has been really demonstrated by
Max Lallinger and his dynamic team.

In questions of engine oils for plants operated with

biogas or other special gases Lallinger supplies the
Raiffeisen-Warenbetriebe in Bavaria and many other
partners. Here, the company scores with a comprehensive service hard to beat. Max Lallinger is an expert for the application of gas engine oils and many
people seek his advice. He supports the field staff of
Raiffeisen, instructs market directors and trains employees. However, that is by far not all. At the Biogas
Forum Bavaria he is a regular speaker and events
take place throughout the year.
In order to live up to all obligations a strict time management and an efficient organisation of all processes are highly important. After all there should
be some time for family and hobbies as well. Max

Heading for success with determination, technical

know-how and an elaborate strategy

ADDINOL Czech Republic s.r.o. is one of our
youngest international partners since May 2nd,
2008 general manager Zbynek Vlna and his small
team have been on the road to success in the
Czech Republic with great skill and ambition, since
September 2010 they also look after the neighbouring country Slovakia. The secret recipe? A broad
range of industrial lubricants, competent technical
advice, comprehensive service and a generous
portion of chocolates.

tant reason was the independence from large concerns involved in crude oil exploration which consider lubricants only as secondary to profitable fuels.

The head quarters of ADDINOL Czech are located in

the south of the Czech Republic in Tabor. From there,
the sympathetic 39-year-old family father with a liking
for sweets and ice hockey coordinates business and
looks after the numerous partners and customers together with his sales managers Bohuslav Hanousek
and Martin kramovsky and Irena Novakova, heart
and soul of the office. The goods are dispatched from
the warehouse in Prague well-connected because of
its central location.

The general manager attaches great importance to

the comprehensive technical service and support for
customers and partners. His personal motto: Product quality is very often difficult to recognize, however, the quality of a sales person can be recognized
quite easily. Thus his employees are expected to
have wide knowledge above average and at the latest state-of-the-art as this is the only way to provide
the right solutions for applications and problems presented by the customers. ADDINOL Czech focuses
on the co-operation with service companies for various machinery and equipment as for example gas
engines, gears or hydraulics. As competent partner
in questions concerning lubrication ADDINOL Czech
offers complete service and advice, provides the respective products and accompanies the application
on the spot.

Zbynek Vlna has been active in the lubricant business

since 14 years already and worked with several competitors such as ExxonMobil or Chevron. His decision in favour of ADDINOL was motivated by the
wide product line including special and high-performance lubricants as well, the own R & D centre and
the excellent flexibility and reliability. Another impor-

The clever businessman sells for instance compressor and turbine oils with great success. One major
service partner is the VESKOM GROUP which is
specialised in project design, assembly and putting
into operation as well as follow-up service and maintenance in the field of compressors and heating. In
close co-operation with ADDINOL Czech VESKOM

looks after various operators of compressors.

Beyond that, the company supplies a large number
of equipment and component manufacturers as for
instance SEW Eurodrive (gears), Fullwood (milking
machinery) or Veolia (water treatment.) as well as the
first-fill business for well-known partners as Ingersoll Rand. The sale of lubricants for food industry is
another successful business for Zbynek Vlna and his
team companies as United Bakeries or Dr. Oetker
are among their customers. They all appreciate the
versed support and the competent co-operation.
