PROJECT ENGINEER

OVERVIEW:
This Project Engineer is a salary exempt position based in Dover, OH reporting to the Engineering
Manager and is responsible for providing project management in assigned plant areas to assure proper
design, procurement, and construction of capital and expense projects and assist the engineering staff,
support operations, R & D efforts, and other members of the management team to help carry out project
engineering services to enhance manufacturing efficiency and maximize plant productivity, and support
new product introductions, while abiding by the mission, objectives, and policies of the Company.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Upholds safety, health, environmental procedures, communicates directly and supports the EHS
department to ensure OSHA and EPA compliance at all times during project planning and execution.
2. Ensure that project contractors are receiving sufficient training/communication to ensure a Safety
First culture.
3. Ensures that appropriate project safety reviews are completed as required both before and after
approval.
4. Generates, requests, and/or coordinates required process and design engineering and design
resources, whether from the site or outside engineering vendors, to prepare engineering design
deliverables and to procure equipment, fabricated materials, and services.
5. Develops project scopes and timelines, generates and/or obtains cost estimates, and prepares
appropriation funding requests.
6. Develops and maintains partnerships with contractors to execute projects from initial scoping and
funding, through detailed engineering and procurement, to startup and commissioning, and then final
documentation and closure.
7. Prepare bid packages and equipment inquiries and lead evaluation and selection process
8. Monitors and supports construction activities to ensure that projects are completed according to the
design deliverables, quality standards, and plant requirements, and that pre-startup safety reviews
are conducted.
9. Adheres to current plant requirements for equipment/materials specifications and vendor preferences.
10. Monitors project progress through scheduling and other tools, performs project status reporting, and
controls spending through appropriate tracking, forecasting, and adjustments.
11. Performs procurement activities, including preparing specifications, issuing requisitions, evaluating
bids, and dealing with vendors.
12. Requests necessary construction and commissioning resources as required to install the scope of
work.
13. Provide input to the maintenance manager on the effectiveness of Dover maintenance employees
utilized on projects.
14. Provide support as a discipline engineer for assigned projects, based on engineering degree,
background, or experience.
15. Assure that all new installed equipment has been properly registered into the companys mechanical
integrity programs.
16. Closes projects and ensures proper documentation of files, records, databases, and drawings to meet
regulatory requirements.
17. Implement post-project reviews on completed projects to determine what improvements can be
applied to future projects (Institutionalize our learnings).
18. Follows through to ensure that Operations achieves a successful project startup, and that any projectrelated action items are completed.
19. Participates and contributes on engineering discipline teams via ad hoc assignments with other
engineers to review, update, and develop project management procedures, guidelines, standards,
and practices.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
1. Bachelors degree in an engineering discipline, strongly prefer Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
degree or at least 7 to 10 years in industrial setting regarding chemical or petrochemical plant design,
procurement, and construction.
2. Experience in both batch and continuous operations desirable.
3. Thorough understanding of best practices for project management work processes.
4. Computer skills are a must with knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and MS PowerPoint.
5. Knowledge of State/Federal EPA and OSHA compliance requirements.
6. Experience working in a union environment preferred; but not required.
7. Excellent communication skills and experience applying technology through teamwork.
8. Ability to accept and respond to challenges in a positive manner.
9. Ability to work in a diverse team environment including interactions with technical/administrative staff,
business team leaders, and contract personnel.
10. Ability to challenge the organization in a manner that maintains trust and respect.

understanding, initiative, team work and team leadership, and quality orientation/attention to detail.
21. Must be able to work extended hours, weekends as needed, especially when problems occur or when
deadlines must be met.
22. Six Sigma training a plus.
23. Some travel may be required.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
While generally working out of an office approximately 50% of the time, in order to perform the essential
job functions of this position, the incumbent must have mobility to move around the factory/equipment,
wear proper PPE, and can potentially be exposed to hazardous chemicals, wet or humid conditions,
outdoor weather, noisy and dusty environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires the ability to perform physical activities that may occasionally require climbing stairs/ladders to
examine work that may be conducted in high, precarious elevations; moving your whole body with
considerable use of arms and legs, such as reaching, bending, twisting, standing, climbing, balancing,
walking, stooping; lifting or moving up to 10 pounds routinely and and/or moving up to 50 pounds
occasionally; and may handle materials with potential for dust explosion.
